Guns, Drugs, and Crazy Independence Stuff / Heavy, swollen, engorged bags
« on: January 21, 2012, 08:48:56 PM »
..or Man Purses.

There are a few things I have to carry around every day: insulin pen & needles, blood checker kit, phone, glasses, and an ice pack for the insulin if it's really hot. Not a lot of stuff but more than I want to pack in my jeans, so I've been carrying it al in a small camera bag for years. Decided to look at some new stuff and at first was gonna get this:

FR-1

..but then found a pretty good deal on this one, which also has enough room for my camera and other stuff should I go off in the woods for a bit:

Remora

Both by Maxpedition.

The second one, the Remora, may be of interest for those of you with CCW. There are two spots designed for holsters, the one in the back is really easily accessed.

I don't have any "pro" backpacks for bugging out (next on the list) but I do have a couple good backpacks ready and a few oddball Vietnam era packs hangin around.

Any of you guys carry a purse?

Hipster Church, AKA "Theology Reformation" AKA "Emergent Christianity" - any of you attend one of these? Have any in your area? There are at least 3 near me trying to out-cool one another.

The hipster church is being called a "reforming" of the church. Apparently (based on the claims of those against the "movement") this reformation completely transforms the whole premise of sin & redemption into a message about nothing but love. That's only half the story of salvation.. so I figure -- and no big stretch of logic here -- it's about money. If you want to keep your church alive, at least in areas free from extreme poverty and fascist dictatorship, you simply change the message. Modernize it, make the message more palatable, perhaps even make it sexy (well, at least for gay fellas and women I guess.. whomever may be attracted to feminine looking chaps HELLO DALE) ..continue the fashion of indoctrinating youth and rake in the dough for life, etc.

That kind of passivity guarantees the end of any forceful impact Christianity can have on a society, so let's pray that these Hipster Churches are packed full of their own peculiar brand of soldiers for Jesus.

As older Christians die off, the pews will be wide open for these more modern and progressive (and liberal) churchies. Can't happen fast enough and I pray that the Islamic faith is neutered as well. As things go however, it's likely that as Christianity fails Islam will only grow stronger. It's really a pathetic scenario but not entirely without humor.

The best offense is to keep your adversary on the defense at all times. On this BBS, I've been kept on the defensive end of this equation for years. It must be jolly fun for the guys who keep doing it, but I'm seeing it more as immature and simply lame. Over these years I've invited them to have a real discussion about this shit, and they won't. I think it'd be meaningless anyway as the most in-depth and valuable conversations I've ever had about race and racism were with people from other races. I'm a white guy just like the guys who keep the accusations flowing. I think the difference may be that I have no white guilt, tons of common sense, and I'm able to spread criticism (and praise) over any and all groups of people.

Keeping it very short so there is no confusion.

Race:
Quote
a : a family, tribe, people, or nation belonging to the same stock

Some people say "race" is a social construct. I don't claim to know.

I don't think it matters as most people tend to be completely willing to self-identify with racial groups. Those options on health forms, job applications, etc. - most people use them. It's an important part of the census. It's used as leverage in political strategies. So if "race" doesn't exist, all the side effects of it's presumed existence do.

In the context of all the accusations about me: I don't give a shit about race, but I'm positively interested in societies and culture. Fixated? No, but it's a major source of interest and has been since I can remember. I find failures just as noteworthy as accomplishments and I'm not shy about discussing either.

Racism:
Quote
a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

Come with me to any Wal Mart or restaurant with a buffet and I can show you why the idea of racial superiority is stupid. I consider culture to trump race. Example? How about Chinese culture and their success with math. They take a different approach to mathematics and they are diligent in studying. And yes, I am speaking collectively. It's appropriate.

***

The root of the accusations are that I don't like black people. This isn't so. Instead of saying what most white people say .."Why! Well.. I have friends that are black!!" - I won't. Not because I don't but because that doesn't mean shit. I have very few friends that are black. Or Vietnamese. Or Serbian. Or Maori. Or whatever. So really, what the fuck does that have to do with anything?

So, to finalize: How does Hellbilly feel about black folks? In general, I feel neutral. Exactly the same way I feel about whites. Or those Serbians that I mentioned above. I don't know "black folks". Unlike some, I don't fawn over them, I don't feel a need to protect them or defend them. I don't feel that way about whites either. Or the Vietnamese I mentioned above.

Am I supposed to feel a certain way about blacks? Apparently so the way things have here. Maybe someone can tell me what the "right" way to feel about blacks is.

There seems to be an error in the forum software. I would report the issue in the proper forum, but alas, all forum sections save this one seem to be broken!

Hope this gets fixed soon!!

General / Q's for Gay folks..
« on: June 17, 2011, 07:37:35 PM »
It's a facebook debate I got myself into with some hardcore liberals. It started with someone posting some words by Ron Paul basically saying he would leave the gay marriage issue up to the states, then a bunch of people chimed in with comments about how bad that position is and they'd NEVER vote for such a religious bigot. They all agree that they will always vote Democrat, all the time.

So I brought up a couple of points- Obama is anti-gay marriage & Bill Clinton made DOMA a law.

But they're still making excuses.. "Clinton faced a Republican congress, so he had to make a compromise!" ..shit like that.

So I'm wondering what liberty minded gay folks think about ol' Clinton & Obama and the charade that Democrats are totally pro-gay marriage.

Also, Clinton signed the Don't Ask Don't Tell deal.. this is also being championed as an example of Democrats making things fair for gays. I guess that's true, but ultimately I think that comes down to the military gaining access to a few more potential bodies to use as IED detectors overseas. Where's the win in that?

« on: May 09, 2011, 06:58:57 PM »
In a discussion with a religious fella, he says that America must intervene to protect Israel from the Muslim invaders because God gave Israel to the Jewish folks.

I axed him what would happen if Israel fell to the Muslims. His answer was that the apocalypse would occur.

I axed him what the big deal was with that... if the goal of every Christian is to get to heaven, and an apocalypse would be a sure-fire way to get there, and quickly, then why not go ahead an allow the Muslims to grab Israel? That way we can just get it all wrapped up.

He said: "That's a complex question and it has a complex answer, and I don't have time to give that right now."

How do y'all handle discussions like these, with family & friends?

I understand the advantage of having gold & silver.

You see, I have this friend.... who runs an unlicensed business. He is open to bartering & trades and is curious about using these shiny minerals that humans go ape over to complete transactions.

None of his clients use gold or silver, none of the retailers accept it, etc.

How would he go about finding interested parties to do business with? He's already asked his regular clients and no one's biting... they all send him 1099's each year, and aside from an occasional trade, they're all on the up & up.

After obtaining the minerals, what's the best way to locate retailers who accept them?

And then, how is it divvied up? How little of a slice of gold, how small a speck of dust is traded?

Due to a (probably) unhealthy & irrational hatred of money, I'm totally ignorant of this subject (as well as the subject of stock markets & trading). I understand there are brokers who hold the minerals and set up an account and all that, but I don't trust that. When the feds come knocking to seize the gold that means I'm shit outta luck.

So assuming I want to have the minerals on-hand, how does the trading actually get done?

(sorry for any awkward wording.. low blood sugar comin on!)

Sunday 4.17's show.

Wonder what Ian's views are on the "racist" content?

Hope someone will let me know when the "African-American Edition" airs so I can tune into that one.

General / List of "Cop Shows"

No talkin, just titles. I'm guessing there must be at least 5,000 shows since TVs were commonly found in living rooms (thus resulting in the citizenry training themselves how to respect authority).
