interesting, much like the merging of science and religion envisioned by ray bradbury in the martian chronicles.

with regards to fact and religion:

in one of my favorite episodes of moral orel, orel said, "there's no place for facts where god is involved!"

the important thing with reagrds to HD-DVD vs. blue ray is that porn will be released in both versions.

From my experience religious people tend to do better in life. It's because there's something positive to look to which they can find in their religion.

speaking from the standpoint of christianity only, this is also what was used to placate the serfs during the dark ages in euorpe.  they were uneducated and toiled in the fields for their liege lords.  the educated few, clergy, would preach stories of fire and brimstone to them, but tell them that if they led a good life working their poor little asses off and didn't try to rise up agains anything then they could eventually find everlasting happiness in heaven.  a heaven that was lacking in the one thing that man desires most.  sex.

if there is a heaven, i hope its the muslims heaven.  i need me a harem.

I'm glad you guys don't share the notion that faith and intelligence have inverse relationships.

i have heard a lot of people who say that and i do tend to disagree.

i don't care what people believe, just don't try to push it on me.  i don't try to push my beliefs on anyone else so its only fair.

Edit:  becuase i just had to fix my fucking typos on this one.

Im pretty sure the "cheap" 20 gig PS3 doesnt come internet ready, besides the extra gigs.  So, you'd have to buy addons to go live if you're into that.

So, once you buy the addons you're already at the 60 gig price.

I think its cool that they have the blueray installed in it, cant get one of those for 600 as a stand alone componant.

I was talking to a guy the other night who has seven ps3's ...  he paid friends to stand in lines for him.  A week or two before xmas he's gonna unload 'em all on ebay for around four grand each, if not twice that, depending on how high people will go.  so, figure maybe 5k each, paid 800 each, he stands to make about thirty grand.  Or more.

Bastard.

Smart man.

supply and demand, the free market is alive and well in some places.

i read the End of Faith by Sam Harris. He alleged that the cause of the major wars today is mainly religion.

I'm reading that right now. I'm still on the Islam chapter.

i recently purchased richard dawkins the god delusion though i haven't started it just yet.  can't wait to, though.

Someone told me there was a paragraph in it that said smarter people tend to disbelieve in the existence of a god.

Educated, is the term. Educated doesn't always mean smarter.

True, and I haven't read the book yet but I have heard Dawkins describe belief vs. non-belief on two occasions as a matter of intelligence.  It's unfortunate that he would choose to do that.....it really reflects badly on other atheists.

It's one of the reasons I don't want to spend $15 on the book. If it's just him attacking believers then I'll pass, at least until the paperback version comes out.

if you saw the south park episodes where cartman was trying to get a wii, the reason that trey and matt bashed dawkins so much was because of his hateful attacks towards towards christians.  as soon as i finish phineas poe i am going to hit the god delusion hard and let i'll let you know what its like.

yes they do.

PS3 had to take the vibration out because it messed up their motion sensor.

dammit, one of the coolest things about the first MGS was when you were being tortured and in one of the codec scenes naomi asked you to put the controller on your arm then made it vibrate.  felt really good after all that circle button mashing.  and the thing with psycho mantis?  when he made your controller move with his mind?  awesome.

i love you hideo kojima

i think you might have to wait a very long time for that.  nintendo tends to not have very many M and definitely no AO games for its consoles.

personally i hate the rating system on games.  parents should be clued into what their kids are doing and not relying on the ESRB to provide a rating to say if its appropriate.
