I did sacrifice my own political future by remaining Libertarian. I was offered jobs in DC with Republican ties during the Reagan Administration.

you gotta stick to your guns

my father is independent, although he is a very religious person (deacon in his baptist church) and probably swings more to the republican side of things.  my mother doesn't care one wit about politics.  my "ex"-wife registered at the democratic tent at the county fair one year ecause an old teacher of her's conviced her to, so we get mailers from those fucktards all the time.

i find the entire concept of religion to be quite narcissistic.

in talking to most religious people, especially christians, you get the feeling that this entire universe was put here by some omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being.  that means that everything that we see when we look into the night sky was put here for one sect of the entire population of this planet.  doesn't really work for me,

not only that, but if there is life on other planets does that mean that "orinigal" sin occured in numerous different gardens of eden?  did the stupid C U Next Tuesday actually listen to the serpent and eat from the tree of knowledge over and over and over again?  or is it possible that on some planet somewhere that she and adam (or whatever they might be called) ate from the tree of life instead and now have everlasting life?

continuing with life on other planets, does that also mean the the immaculate conception occurred numerous times?  was christ then crucified numerous times?  in some ways this seems like it takes away free will if it did.  what if it had all happened before on another planet before this one formed out of star dust?  does that mean that the same thing happened all over again, just that the names had been changed to protect the innocent.  and if this supposed god is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent why wasn't he able to immediately stop eve from eating from the tree of knowledge and thereby allow them to live out there lives in naked bliss through all eternity?

If I'm having a discussion with someone, the only reason I will quote him or her quoting me is because some people like to mischaracterize what I type when they're replying to me, and I typically need to clarify. Especially if they can't refute something so they try to hijack my side of the argument as their own and then try to steer me into opposition.  This also happens with the aforementioned cherry picking.

This is why an unmoderated forum like this is not very good for honest debate.

much like the:

yes!
no!
yes!
no!
yes!
no!
no!
yes!
no!
dammit, i said yes and i mean yes!

debate in cartoons

i think it really depends on the nature of the thread.  if it is actually a serious topic then yes it is highly annoying.  if it is a silly thread where bbs users are posting crazily about innane bullshit then who really cares?

mouses

mouses?  don't you mean meeses?

Mices.
Mises.

Actually, the correct term when talking about computer mouses is mouses.

oh yeah?  well how about this for pluralization.

you have one penis.
if you have more than one then you have penises.
now, lets say that you have a group of penies over here and a group of penises over there and you want to refer to them collectively.  then you have peni.

i know, you are just a young pup, and if i were to say, "i hate meeses to pieces!!" it wouldn't mean a god damn thing to you.

Mr. Jinks...I used to watch that cartoon all the time.

sweet, now i don't feel quite so old.

My parents decided early on in my life that I should be cultured.

i don't know if that is really being considered cultured.
