Quote
"The Pasadena Police Department would like to inform the public that buying gold is against the law unless you are licensed by the California Department of Justice," the statement said.

In addition, police added, "Gold buyers are required by law to ask for identification from whoever they buy from and maintain a description of the items they are buying. This information is then reported to law enforcement."

"Business operators that buy or sell gold without a license are subject to arrest, a $1,500 fines and accusations of dealing in stolen property, police added."

The people calling for regulation are pissing against the wind. As soon as that happened bitcoin agorist version would spring up

I think no matter how much they have wet dreams about statist bitcoin policies there is nothing they can do to prevent anyone else starting their own block chain and everyone migrating to a non regulated version.

tl;dr they are telling the sheep what they want to hear as the truth is fucking scary to the control freaks.

welcome to the wikipedia of money.

Think of a version of bitcoin running over freenet...and able to still function over sneakernet with no internet needed at all. Ive seen the future and the end of the nation state is closer than you realise.

This article by economist Jon Matonis explains all the libertarian hating on bitcoin - he refutes it better than I can

If he wins I hope he takes chuck norris into the congress and lets him  choke out the scumbags :)

Just want to post this here to show how deeply the Australian population is brainwashed and how hard it is to convince people they are being conned.

The best quote I saw in the thread was someone saying "I love paying tax"

Thanks again, everyone, for the input.

I just finished watching Security Now.  I am curious..  Could it be possible for some state/s to throw the "killswitch" on the internet, and then highjack the chain?

Also, wouldn't it be possible to piece together the transactions if enough of the personal wallets were taken?  It seems that creating a new address with each transaction would be a good way to stay anonymous, but I just read that each address remains valid, or connected to you, indefinitely, unless you lose your wallet.  Is there anyway to purge the wallet, and maintain the BTCs?  I guess one could send your BTCs to a new "account", or wallet, and then get rid of the old one.

Please excuse me if this is all painfully obvious to most of you.  :D  I am learning, albeit slowly, as I type.

If they throw the kill switch there will be bigger problems than bitcoin to deal with. I doubt they will because the masses need their facebooks . It would instantly cause a revolution . The bitcoin network confirms transactions whether you have a client runnning or not.

Dont make any address you own public and you cant be tied to them. Its good to create a new address for each transaction as well. you are correct in saying just send your btc to a new wallet and delete the old one. Encrypt your wallet with truecrypt and back it up on dropbox.

My hypothetical about the kill switch was really just me asking to see if I understood the concept of the chains, and each node adding to the security of the whole system.  I'm not concerned about that, just curious about the possibility.

Thanks for the rest of the advice.  Good idea about Truecrypt, too!

im certain the eventual power of the voluntary economic system will blow the existing one away and fund a worldwide mesh network for its own sustainablity. Where are they going to get the funds to support the tyranny if the only way they can get money in future is voluntary donations ?

An intriguing thought would be if you setup  a local bitcoin market in NH as bitcoin is best when you dont have to transfer to fiat.  Shire silver co-branded with a bitcoin logo ?

If you have an android phone we even have a client for it now and a browser extension for merchants.

I was one of the bootstrappers for the bitcoin economy back when a bitcoin was worth under .006 where I started selling amazon gift cards for them and offering rebates (see my sig. )

Currently Im setting up http://witcoin.com which lets people earn coins for content and soon answering questions for bitcoin bounties.

I think even Ian and Mark accept bitcoin donations privately (email them ). The eff ,tor project and now freenet  accept bitcoins.

If you are worried about the security of bitcoin look at how resilient bittorrent is even with all the force of the worlds governments against it incapable of shutting it down. Pretty soon bitcoin will be the worlds largest supercluster of machines and all the feds will be able to do is snipe from the sidelines as people voluntarily trade.

I want to prepare if the dollar is crashing. Most of my capital is in another currency, but if I know the governors of that currency they will lend their currency to the american govt, thus decreasing the value of my money. I want to buy gold to protect myself. I'm not prepared yet to go to the same degrees of measures that Sam did, ensuring self sufficiency and all that, and having my own gold vault (?) , that would be quite some gold.

Which company can I trust best that if the crash occurs they will hold my gold beholdent to me and not "give" to a government? Are there any counter-measures being taken by some companies that makes me as a customer trust them? Will they be able to protect it from robbers? Be it the military or civilians. If you have more knowledge than me, which makes you better able to predict the future, which company do you think fits best for what is going to happen?  Which company should I choose?  What should I do? As you can see I have a lot of questions about this, so if you know another resource I should turn to (book, another internet forum, etc), which one? Can anyone point me in the rigth direction?

Why is it that so many libertarians are obsessed with disaster scenarios that will almost certainly never occur, barring some catastrophic natural disaster that wipes out most of humanity?  The opportunity cost of preparing for such things seems to far outweigh any expected benefit.

Did you just now not in fact bunch me into the same category with the "obsessed" ones? Did you just now in fact come from a collectivst frame? If that was an implication that I'm obsessed, because looking at the evidence it sure do looks like it, yes you are, because I'm not obsessed with that. My proof? Because I say so, got it?! I know ME better than you. Do you know me? No you don't. You've read at the top 15 posts that you know come from me, because I know I've made max 15 posts on this forum. To even think that you somehow can even begin to make correct assumptions or conclusions about me.

Look Mr Meister. You tried to "analyze" (you didn't follow the correct procedure of analysis, if you had even thought of the correct proecdure you'd realise you don't have enough info about me to justify an analysis) me.

Now I'm going to make my own analyze of YOU, if not for the point to show you how your post make me feel, and it's going to be based on more science than yours. Am I saying this is 100% true? No. See I'm just assuming, imagining, in my head, without labeling you as this. You labeled me, or at least the evidence points to it.

This is what I'm thinking you were thinking when you read my post:
"Ok, someone who is talking about gold. Ok he needs some information about gold. Do I have any useful information to post in reply to say about that or what I guess he was meaning? No. Something actually relevant? No... hmm... what if....what if gold~fiat money~bitcoins. Yes! This gives me the excuse to promote bitcoins. Because I think bitcoins is a good idea, I want to spread it to as many people as possible! I want them to realize how GOOD this idea is! It will change the world SO MUCH!

What did I base this on, where's my evidence? In your profile it says "bitcoins evangelist". This implies that you see yourself in the role as the bitcoin evangelist. What does an evangelist do? Preech. Again, not saying anything of this necessarily is true. See that's the difference between you and me, buddy.

Furthermore BonerJoe, which is a global moderator, replied "would you please stop that shit", probably because he was annoyed (since you've been "spamming" this idea in other threads or this thread already)

In you're profile it says "Evangelist". Who is the one obsessed with an idea?

Where's your evidence? What did you base your "conclusion" (you made it into a conclusion in your head), which really is an opinion on?

Why do so many people posting on internet forums make assumptions, which they then in turn, through some kind of mysterious magic, make into a conclusion?

And yes I know about bitcoins already, ok?. Did i say that I wanted to buy gold or bitcoins? Are you trying to help me or not? It doesn't seem like it. Don't make statements and "help" someone if you're not sure you know what kind of help they need or want. Capisce? If I was interested in someone helping me with bitcoins, I'd ask for it. Or I read all about it, because that information I know where to find.

Look, ask yourself, what value did you add with your post? Did you add more than you took? Or did you in fact decrease the value, because you created slight annoyance within both me and BonerJoe? Is annoyance a negative feeling? Yes, yes it is. What does this mean? Does this mean that you are a valuetaker in other relationships of your life? If so, ask yourself, "Do I want to be a valuetaker, or a valueadder?"

Look, listen, hear me out, if your goal is to spread the idea of bitcoin and you know bitcoins is a good idea, good for you. I'm not critiqing that.

When your first impression on me is poor, which it was, and rightly so it actually acts AGAINST your intention of spreading the idea of bitcoins. Why? I think you know why, but I'm spelling it out, just in case. It makes me associate bitcoins to a negative feeling, to a bad impression, to bad behaviour. Are you a bad person? Was it bad behaviour? If this texts resonates with you in any way that's a clue what I'm saying might be true.

If so I'm advicing (yes I'm the one giving the advice this time, and it is genuine, [yours wasnt]) you, because I'm pretty good at understanding frames and understanding people, I have a way of getting into their heads, maybe you noticed,
reflect on what you were thinking when you wrote that post, and what just happened when you read this post.

Why did I just spend a couple of minutes on this post? What's my motivation? You have shown evidence contrary to the premise that mine and yours relationship would be meaningful in any way, that it would add value to both participants (win-win).

If what all I said was true and this post makes you change your behaviour slightly, or even realise something new about yourself, it was worth it for me, that's my motivation. Because we are all in this libertymovement (making the assumption that you share the major points and goals of the movement) together. We need to be better than the statists, we need to love each other, even them.

The choice is up to you, I can not make it for you, nor do I want to. Even if I could through some kind of sick mind control, I wouldn't. The statists would, if a chip was invented that could make a choice inside the human brain, or change choices when it detects it's a choice that the government doesn't like, they would try to implement this chip on all the slaves on the planet. Not in their own brains though, although they would make all the slaves believe they also have this chip and the same configuration.

Wat - the - fuck ?????

Streaming to the internet is self protection in this situation. You saw what happened...he took off when i did so. Its not like I started filming straight away it was only after he threw my keys into the bushes then returned to harass me again. How would you handle it differently? Wait for the taser or the gun to come out or try and ward the psycho off by getting him on film?

I have never filmed a cop before. At my wits end it was the only thing I could think of . You make it seem like I rammed his car lol.

What would happen if you reached into a cops car and threw his keys into the bushes?

You just love stirring up shit to your own demise, don't you.

Not really.  Tell me how Im supposed to react when assaulted by gang members.

It was an extremely threatening situation and the only protection I had was live streaming to the internet . I was just delivering pizza not looking to confront a storm trooper.

This gang member ticketed me yesterday for the victimless crime of not wearing a seatbelt. He then proceeded to stalk me after I drove away. He pulled up beside me at an intersection and proceeded to shout through the window. I reversed away into a driveway as I didnt feel like answering his questions. He followed and proceeded to grab my car keys and throw them in the bushes. He drove off but then turned his car back around and thats where I started filming. Id had enough by that point to grab my iphone and start filming . This video is just a short clip but you'll get the idea of the attitude of all the cops around here and why I avoid them as much as possible.

Now Ive got 0 points left on my licence its only a matter of time till I am unable to drive . The only way I can afford to feed my family and pay the mortgage is by delivering pizzas at night. I need to go to another state or the gang in blue will force me off the road here. They know my car now and like pulling me over for alcohol breath tests. Previously Ive been threatened by this gang - you can see my other posts about it on here. There is no point lodging complaints as the gang members stick together. The only outlet I have is this board to tell people my story. Everyone in this town wouldn't understand that its not a crime to refuse to talk to the men with guns or that there is no crime if there is no victim. In total over the past 12 months the fines come to $1200. The only victim here is me , I cant afford to pay the amounts on their threatening letters. It would be cheaper to hire the mafia for "protection".

btw I dont think its a failure when you dont talk to the police - it's a win.
