Thanks Ian for bringing the maturity level back down, in Trademark's absence!

General / FTL flyers at San Francisco LP
« on: December 10, 2006, 12:30:17 AM »
I am in San Francisco for a few days, so I stopped by the LP SF (they had their monthly meeting tonight)
Aside from giving them an update on the FSP and F1K, I handed out FTL flyers.
Actually several people from the SF LP are FSP members and some are also F1K members... there are really only a few of them staying behind, and then because of things like unwilling partners or medical conditions.
Yeah, more activists coming to NH!!

Hopefully we got a few new listeners...

The Polling Pit / Garder 'El G Gande' Goldsmith
« on: September 27, 2006, 09:03:53 PM »
I make no bones about it, I think Gardner adds a LOT to the show, by virtue of his freakishly encyclopedic knowledge of History, the Constitution, and legal precedents. In that way, he's almost exactly the opposite of Ian and Mark.

On top of it all, he's a principled anarchocapitalist "Free-Marketeer", like Ian, but not so in-your-face.... rather, he comes off almost as a "moderate", like Mark. He makes anarchocapitalism digestible to the general population.

Last but not least, the whole dynamic of the show was more enjoyable with Gardner on. Maybe just because Gardner stopped Ian and Mark bitching at each other like an old married couple ;)

Yay Gardner!

Anyways, that's my take. What say y'all?

General / FTL links on Wikipedia
« on: September 01, 2006, 01:55:58 PM »
I added FTL to this Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-capitalism#Anarcho-capitalist_websites_and_articles

We'll see whether the Wikipedia editors approve.

Anybody got some other places where FTL should be linked-to from Wikipedia?

General / New June '06 FSP DVD Available for Download!
« on: June 28, 2006, 04:04:55 PM »
Hot on the heels of PorcFest, I've updated the FSP DVD.
This is the same copy of the DVD that is at the FSP table at PorcFest, downloadable for those of you who couldn't make it out here.

It now includes new footage of various protests (such as the anti-Real-ID rally and Russ & Kat's Free Speech trial), video clips of stirring speeches made by NH legislators on the House floor and on local TV (such as one quoting Patrick Henry's famous line "Give me Liberty, or give me Death!"), new TV news footage, and a slightly slicker main menu.

Details and download instructions are located at:

General / Slashdot Hits Made Easy
« on: May 30, 2006, 03:57:35 PM »
Slashdot is read by hundreds of thousands of people, a big portion of whom lean Libertarian.

Most slashdotters are geeks that work in the computer / IT industry.  Most of them are fiercely independent, and reject the authority of the federal government over their freedom to get information on the internet.  The FSP is a dream come true for them. Moreover, they are likely to be able to move to NH sooner rather than later. Many of us (including myself) found out about the Free State Project because it was mentioned on Slashdot, during the media blitz when NH was chosen as the Free State.

Since then, myself and others have tried to get FTL and/or the FSP mentioned on slashdot, to varying degrees of success.

The good thing about slashdot is, anyone can post a comment, and Freedom-related issues are discussed on almost a daily basis.
The bad thing about Slashdot is... for people to see the comment, it needs to get moderated "up", and fast!
We can have thousands of readers on any comment. The key is, to get those comments posted quickly, and get them moderated up quickly -- minutes count!

I've tried several times & several ways to get pro-FTL and pro-FSP comments moderated up to where thousands of people will see them.
After several moderately successful attempts I have come up with what I believe is a highly effective solution.

Here's how it works:
 • I have set up a "secret" Yahoo group. It's by invite only: to join the group, contact me (PM or email).
 • When you join the Yahoo group, pick "immediate message notification" (ie, do not get messages bunched up "digest")
 • Any time you have "moderator points" on Slashdot, post a message to the Yahoo group, saying you have them.
 • Any time you post a pro-FSP or pro-FTL comment on slashdot, post a message to the Yahoo group, along with a link to your comment.
 • If you have moderator points that day, use them on people's pro-FSP/pro-FTL comments.
 • If you don't have moderator points that day, post follow-up comments to the pro-FSP/FTL comments. Active, engaging discussion is very important!

I expect there would not be more than 5-6 emails per day as a result of the above. That should be quite manageable.
If a dozen or so of us do this, we should be able to get a pro-FSP comment moderated up to +4 or +5, within minutes of its posting, every day or two.
That would in itself generate more high-quality FTL & FSP interest than tens of thousands of dollars worth of advertising.

Let's Slashdot for Freedom!

General / URGENT: SLASHDOT MOD POINTS?
« on: May 25, 2006, 12:45:36 PM »
I just posted on Slashdot, an anti-Real-ID article with lots of good links that damn well needs to get moderated "up".
The thing about Slashdot is... for people to see the article, it needs to get moderated "up", andd fast!

If you have slashdot moderator points right now, please, PLEASE go mod me up:
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/05/25/1225235
I post there under the handle "plugh"; here's the direct link to my post:

If you don't have Slashdot moderator points right now:
Please go to the above thread, and spout off about Real-ID, FTL, New Hampshire, and your passion!

General / TOOL: Boston 5/21/06: FTL Flyers!!
« on: May 16, 2006, 07:59:37 PM »
I am going to see Tool play at the Orpheum in Boston on May 21.
Tool fans tend to be rabidly individualist, and Tool's music has a strong anti-authoritarian, pro-Freedom slant.
I created FTL flyers specifically to pass out at the concert; I will be printing up many hundreds of these.

If you are going to the concert, please contact me ASAP.
Let's get these into as many hands as possible!

As it turns out, I also have 1 spare ticket to the show. Row "X", center section.
I purchased it on Ebay when, 10 seconds after tickets went on sale at ticketmaster, they had already sold out.
As such, though the ticket's face value is $66, I paid triple that. Yes, that's right.
If you'd like that ticket, please contact me. I'll accept any price above the face value; in the event of multiple offers, highest bidder wins, up to the amount I actually paid, first come first serve.
Anyone wanting said ticket must agree to spend at least 2 hours with me handing out flyers before the show (and maybe after as well) and must also not be averse to being with a person who has eaten a few Good Brownies beforehand ;)

Here are the front & back of the flyers. You may need to right-click and "View Image" to get a decent picture.
"The Message" is a reference to Rosetta Stoned from the latest album; the message itself was inspired by "Rearden", another FSP early-mover.

General / FSP Userbar!
« on: April 12, 2006, 07:01:42 AM »
I don't know if you've seen "user bars", the little pictures people (typically younger people) put in their forum signatures.
I created an FSP userbar and uploaded it to http://userbars.org .

The upshot is, you might want to cut-and-paste the following line into your user profile signature on the various forums where you're registered:
Code: [Select]

Just another way to get the FSP message out there...

General / Slashdot Article "Good Podcasts": VOTE FOR FTL!!
« on: March 24, 2006, 02:15:30 PM »
Slashdot is a wildly popular and well-read (millions of readers) web tech-and-politics news site.
They have an article right now asking readers for their recommendations for "Good Poscasts"
Let's let them know about Free Talk Live!!!

These articles come and go very quickly, speed is the key to getting people to see your post!
Please go make a post right now:
http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/03/24/1534245

If you are familiar with Slashdot and have Moderator points today, please don't post, but scan for other people's FTL postings, and Moderate them UP!

I moved to New Hampshire last year, in search of Freedom.
Since moving, I have learned many things.

There is something I'd like to share with people who listen to Free Talk Live and who are thinking about coming to NH:
You don't need to be and "activist" or even "politically active" when you move to New Hampshire!*

There are plenty of people already here who have done the ground-laying work, connecting to existing in-state organizations and building new ones from scratch. All we need are people who are passionate, and who are willing to spend at least a few hours each month working with the pro-liberty organization(s) that best suit them.

That may involve as little as an afternoon making scripted phone calls on behalf of RLCNH, distributing flyers for LPNH, all the way up to going to jail in a creative act of activism like Mike Fisher or Russel Kanning. But involvement is the key.

You don't need to be an activist: you need to be willing to be active, and you need to be in NH. The sooner, the better!

Just yesterday, I unveiled a website with the express purpose of showing FSP members (and friends) what groups already exist in NH, and the positive steps they are taking:
http://freestateblogs.net

Have a poke around and see all the dedicated, pro-Freedom organizations that are already here in New Hampshire. If you care about Freedom, at least one or two of these organizations will be a great fit for you.

Please, feel free to share the URL with everyone you can.

* Of course, if you are already a self-described, pro-freedom activist, get yourself out to NH ASAP!

General / Freely Downloadable DVD: "Free State Project Video Clips"
« on: December 30, 2005, 02:14:25 PM »
UPDATE: New June '06 release info is below!
Be sure and download this new edition

I've compiled a new DVD consisting of the latest video clips relating to the Free State Project:
TV news shows, footage of protests in New Hampshire, etc.
Everyone is welcome to download it, and burn as many copies as you like!

The DVD image is freely available via BitTorrent.
First, you need a BitTorrent client. I've found Azureus to be the best one:
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php

Once you've downloaded and installed Azureus (or if you already have a BitTorrent client), just click on any of the following:
http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3499037
http://www.torrentbox.com/torrents-details.php?id=51736
http://www.mininova.org/tor/352509

This being BitTorrent, the more people that download, the faster it goes for everyone  :D
Please, once you have finished downloading, leave your BitTorrent application running, as this speeds up the download for everyone else.

If you run into any trouble, or have any feedback, please post here.
I'll answer questions as best I can, and am always looking for suggestions for the next cut of the DVD.

Share and Enjoy!
