To me it doesn't really matter if I am entertained by FTL. I am, but I support FTL because of the pro-freedom message. If you are pro-freedom you should support FTL any way you can because it is the only show like it out there. If we support FTL and it gets more and more popular maybe there will be other shows like it that will eventually compete with it and you will find a show you really like.

Until then I think we should support FTL and if you have criticisms let them know. Or better yet call in and be a "song" yourself. :-)

General / Don't worry, be happy?

Feeling grumpy 'is good for you'

In a bad mood? Don't worry - according to research, it's good for you.

An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly.

In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed.

While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, Professor Joe Forgas told Australian Science Magazine.

'Eeyore days'

The University of New South Wales researcher says a grumpy person can cope with more demanding situations than a happy one because of the way the brain "promotes information processing strategies".
“ Negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world ”
Professor Joe Forgas

He asked volunteers to watch different films and dwell on positive or negative events in their life, designed to put them in either a good or bad mood.

Next he asked them to take part in a series of tasks, including judging the truth of urban myths and providing eyewitness accounts of events.

Those in a bad mood outperformed those who were jolly - they made fewer mistakes and were better communicators.

Professor Forgas said: "Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, co-operation and reliance on mental shortcuts, negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world."

The study also found that sad people were better at stating their case through written arguments, which Forgas said showed that a "mildly negative mood may actually promote a more concrete, accommodative and ultimately more successful communication style".

His earlier work shows the weather has a similar impact on us - wet, dreary days sharpened memory, while bright sunny spells make people forgetful.

The Show / Re: Oppinion: spanking children
« on: October 22, 2009, 06:12:44 AM »
It's very interesting that the clip shows kids in school. It helps reinforce that the only reason that spanking is used is to teach blind obedience to power and authority.

Thanks for sharing it.

I don't know what you can do. I just spent a week in Germany and it seems like a nice place. All you can do is keep trying to share and spread ideas and hope that some of them take root. It is not easy. I had two co-workers come with me and I thought it was funny that they call Germany a socialist country yet they tell me people have a right to health care. I try to explain to them, but they refuse to see the violence and will just stop listening to me. I find it sad and baffling, but I will try to put ideas out there in the hopes that some one will be interested and want to listen.

I watched 9 last night and all I can say is "meh." It was slow and ultimately kinda pointless. I guess I just don't get it.

I have been drinking Crown Royal and Diet Dr. Pepper, but I just switched to Newcastle Brown Ale.

I have never had Newcastle Brown Ale before. I got it on the recommendation of the guy at the liquor store. It's not bad, but I don't like it. I would prefer Warstiener Premium Dunkel or Becks Dark or Guinness.
