She gets to chose between leaving the next morning or a flight two days later. Chooses two days later. Today was two days later. She goes to the airport, flight was canceled again. She is still with us.

Get this woman out of here.

I figure that this deserves a separate thread. There are a lot of good points in this documentry, specifically ones that Ian and Mark will like.  They go into depth  about the people who observed, had knowledge of, or even participated in the otrocities. Two people in particular can be described as a busybody woman who ratted on her neighbor for being eccentric (and got her killed) and a guy who volunteered to be a part of shooting squads killing women & children and and feels no guilt about it to this day. Spoiler: the woman says yeah that was my signature and name causing the woman to be taken away, but I know nothing about the paper it is on   Spoiler: the man feels no guilt for killing, or that he ratted out the names of his friends (who were killed) after the war so that rather be put to death he could serve a 20 year gulag sentence.  These videos brought new light to the events, I hadnt known some of the stuff and had believed some things which were incorrect.

How could a political party as fundamentally evil and overtly racist as the Nazis come to power? This remains one of the most enigmatic questions of the last century. Acclaimed historian Laurence Rees examines what led a cultured nation at the heart of Europe to commit the atrocities it did. In so doing, he exposes popular myths and encourages understanding of the real forces that led to one of the darkest chapters in modern history. Was it simply the hypnotic power of Hitler's rhetoric? Did the Gestapo really impose themselves by terror on an unwilling population? Through interviews with witnesses and perpetrators, along with archive film and records, this six-part series unveils a more chilling reality.

The part in bold above discusses whether it was the  police like Gestapo that cracked down upon the populace, or did they turn on their own neighbors.

An amazon review:

This six-part British documentary chronicles the rise and fall of Hitler and the Nazis, though far from just being the usual retelling of familiar historical events, it goes so much deeper. A lot of the pictures and film footage haven't been seen before, and many of the people interviewed were actual higher-ups in the Nazi Party or Wehrmacht, instead of just interviewing regular soldiers and civilians. Other people interviewed are those who lived under the Nazi occupation in Poland, the former Czechoslovakia, and Lithuania. A number of the very elderly Germans, as well as a Lithuanian who was a member of the Einsatzgruppen, are pretty matter-of-fact and unrepentant about what they did, even with so many decades of historical hindsight and knowing what we do now. There's also a lot of information that hasn't been brought to light before about many of the topics covered.

The next time cameras are blocked by a person, have two mirrors with you. When you are looking through the camera angle the mirrors with your arms around the person (assuming the camera is on a tripod). When guy moves to block the mirrors, put them on the other side of him. If he moves to block it again, switch back to not using the mirrors, etc.

General / Does Prohibition Ever Work

Does Prohibition Ever Work?

Can the prohibition of Gold and Silver money last?

I have a theory that prohibition of anything is always doomed to fail from its inception because it contravenes (the divine law of) free will. That is, free will is the very basis of conscious existence and any attempt to systematically over-rule that through force and coercion will ultimately fail. That’s not to say that efforts can not be made, but that ultimately such efforts are unsustainable. Indeed, if fiat laws are for the good of the people, then policing of such laws should not be required as self interest should ensure appropriate action is taken and that where inappropriate action is taken, it is more likely an expression of ignorance rather than "criminality".

Ignorance can be overcome through an individual’s desire for self-improvement and offensive action is overcome through the respect for others and their property.

A respect of others and a motivation for self-improvement, on an individual basis, is all that is required for a civil society, for which no laws can enforce. Indeed, laws of prohibition are only enforceable against honest people who are inclined to the virtues of self-improvement and respect, as dishonest people with without respect for others will ignore or subvert such laws anyway.

Prohibitive laws against drugs, alcohol or weapons all simply benefit the less scrupulous who would distribute drugs, alcohol and weapons against the best interests of the people anyway, and benefit from the larger profit margins prohibition ensures.

Similarly, prohibiting the use of precious metals as a means of extinguishing debt by fiat is coercive and benefits not the people or their society, but those who profit from the creation and distribution of an illicit and irredeemable currency. Hence, just as the prohibition of drugs, alcohol and weapons have failed because they contradict the free will of the individual, so too will prohibition of gold and silver as money fail.

What I think of the prices, looking at their site:

"Walking Liberty Halves": Overpriced by a few dollars.

"Clean Silver Round": Pretty average price. Not a deal, but good price.

"Survival Bag of Dimes": A good deal, not something you can buy just anywhere either.

I like that they are selling empty Monster Boxes. I may have to get one, my current coin storage sucks and recently broke.

Five men have been arrested in the United Kingdom for their involvement in "recent and ongoing" attacks by an online "non-group" of hacktivists that calls itself "Anonymous."

Three teenagers aged 15, 16 and 19 along with two men, aged 20 and 26, were arrested by authorities Thursday morning in connection with offenses under the Computer Misuse Act, BBC News reported.

Following the arrest of five people in Britain in connection with the "Operation Payback" cyber-attacks in support of WikiLeaks, the FBI announced mass raids across the United States in connection with the case.

-------------PART 2---------------

"FBI agents today executed more than 40 search warrants throughout the United States as part of an ongoing investigation into recent coordinated cyber attacks against major companies and organizations," a bureau press release states.

Though the bureau did not say if any individuals were arrested during the raids, it did confirm a link between the US raids and the arrests in Britain. The bureau said suspects, if charged, could face up to 10 years in prison.

The police actions indicate that governments on both sides of the Atlantic are determined to prevent hacktivists from taking revenge against companies that ceased to do business with WikiLeaks following the release of US State Department cables late last year.

Article also contains content describing the DOS attacks, the Pirate Party calling politicians to action, etc.

A group of potential jurors mostly all said that they would refuse to convict the defendant of a trial. The defendant could have been so much in the clear, but of course  he ended up taking a plea.
