But what do they do for a living in the USA if they can't string together a sentence of English?

America is full of people who can't speak English. In my city, Houston, the government publishes everything in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Making it in America is possible if you're willing to work, English isn't necessarily required - though it helps a lot, of course.

Do you have a college degree? If you can program a computer or do some kind of engineering, it's possible to apply for jobs in America from outside the country, though it's a very difficult process.

I do think this would be superior.

The US government is pretty intense about immigrants lately. If you have a valuable skill you might try New Zealand, or if you don't but have some money you could probably get into Panama. If I were looking to emigrate from my country right now I don't think I'd bet on the US. I'm nervous for our future.

So I assume this department has a camera on all of its cops' actions all the time?

Honestly I'm not sure what's involved in agricultural engineering. My major was environmental engineering at Cornell, practically right next door. I assume it's fate-and-transport, drainage, soil creation, biogeochemistry, etc?

but I'm already saddled with HEAVY debt.

It is extremely unlikely college will ever be worth it if you go deeply into debt to pay for it. Take some time and do the research on the hype of college. It ain't all that it is cracked up to be.

I wouldn't go to college these days unless it involved some type of engineering. Mining, biotechnology, electronics, etc.

All entry level jobs right now seem to require a bachelor's plus three years of experience (???), thus putting them out of reach of new graduates, so yeah.

I got lots of offers with my engineering degree, but then they ran out of work for me to do and I went to grad school instead, so take that as you will.

Again, though, my PhD is in a natural science, so it's not like I'm spending time philosophizing about Kafka.

Civilization Mutherfucking Five.

It's awesome, but I usually use Strategic View instead of the pretty graphics so it runs better.

Isn't meant to sound insulting, "queer" is embraced by LGBT folks, right?

Not this one.

Fair enough.

I haven't written in cursive since middle school, but I do handwrite a lot since I take notes better that way and I have to do a lot of math with annoying symbols.

I write better Greek symbols than the normal alphabet.

There is nothing on Earth that doesn't have "what you think it is" and "something else". Run anything through a mass spec and you will find this out.

"Almost" assaulted? If you were pushed to the ground, it sounds like you were assaulted to me.
