You'd have to ask the people who partook in it whether they were being passive aggressive (hint: you weren't one of them.) Didn't seem passive-aggressive to me. To me, it seemed more like they wanted to show people how far the state will go to enforce the silliest of their edicts. I think it made that point beautifully.

He's just harping on the same old thing he's harped on for years - he hates activism that isn't "respectful" to the system. His beef is with me. He'd probably love FTL if I weren't on it.
Oh, why can't I just put on a suit and tie and go lobby the legislature like he does?!?!
Ian, it's not about being "respectful to the system." It's about deliberately pissing off people instead of persuading.
When you do things that disturb the status quo, some people will be pissed off. When politicos start actually rolling back the government, they are going to piss people off too.
But I don't see the Keaniacs deliberately pissing people off by smoking pot. It seems like the most pissed off people are the libertarians who think they have a monopoly on the right kind of activism.
I certainly think anyone has room to improve in anything (including activism choices). But we need to set the example for other people by being tolerant, not angry, over the choices that other people make.

He has been fuming about Ian and FK for years now. He was the one, I believe, who coined the term "freak-staters".
Yeah, he's really letting this get to him.

My flavor of the months are Innovation and 7 Wonders. I prefer Innovation, but 7 wonders is an easier game with lots of great strategy that you can get gaming newbies into. Plus, it works with 3-7 players...there aren't a ton of good games that can play that many people.

Not sure who is being a sycophant...I see people in this thread who see positive qualities in bitcoin.
I did listen to the podcast you mentioned last night, and the main criticism that I heard is that it isn't anonymous right out of the gate like some in the MSM are saying. Reading more, it looks like there are measures you can take to make it as anonymous as you want (and not just by using anonymizing services like torr, which they talked about some potential problems with on the show).
I think there are some people here who are transferring their well-earned distrust of fiat money ontp bitcoin. It seems almost reflexive in this thread. Yes, this iteration of bitcoin might not be the e-money that ends up winning out. But people who don't see that transferring wealth with nearly zero transaction cost in a potentially anonymous way HAS VALUE...attributes that gold, though it has many great, well proven qualities, does not have (and that value is proven by the fact that people currently use bitcoin to make these very transactions) have their fiat blinders on, IMO.
Obtaining bitcoins to save IS speculation...it's definitely a risk. Obtaining them to spend, however, is completely practical, and makes many transactions easier, faster, and cheaper.

Ok, so conspiracy folks are all up in arms about the "New World Order", and they have these videos of these important people saying the phrase "New World Order" to confirm that their conspiracy theories are correct.
Is it just me, or does the phrase "New World Order" not really sound that sinister when you hear GHWB say it. To me, it just sounds like a synonym of "The major powers in the world are changing" For example, there was a new world order after the Napoleonic Wars. After Westphalia. After the fall of the roman empire. After WWII. And so on. So it sounds to me like they are saying that the power in the world is going to be redistributed/change hands like it has many many times in the past. Nothing too shocking.
Am I missing something?

Civil disobedience /= being an asshole. Even is some of the people doing civil disobedience ARE also being assholes, they are two separate issues. I'm behind you 100% when you say that you should not be an asshole. That's when you are doing civ dis or when you are just going about your daily life (like childish name calling in an internet forum).
Civil disobedience, per se, is not disrespectful of anything except the state. And the state deserves no respect, and should be shown no respect.
The fact that the freak staters jump to civil disobedience right away is big part of the problem. Civil disobedience is confrontation. Confrontation causes the other side to dig in their heels. It causes them to resist.
