LRN.FM - The Liberty Radio Network / Our Recording and Podcasting Primer
« on: October 23, 2011, 04:30:02 AM »
Neema Vedadi and I do a podcast called Freedom Feens (Available from LRN.fm or from http://www.freedomfeens.com/ ).

Folks kept asking us questions about how we record and make it sound good (especially since Neema and I live in different states), so we wrote up a tutorial, with photos and screenshots:
http://www.freedomfeens.com/how-we-record/

Not all of it would apply to everyone, and as Ian told me, "There are simpler ways you could do this." But Neema and I are audiophile nerds as well as liberty people. (And Ian talks about "simpler ways", but he lives in a room full of gear that turns me on so much that sometimes I almost want to mute the audio on the live video feed of FTL, ignore the people and just masturbate to the racks of gear and the RE-20 microphones.  :P )

But a lot in our primer would be of use to people trying to get into recording liberty media or music. And of course, the more of this stuff there is out there, the better.

If you're on a limited budget or not terribly tech savvy, I'd read the whole thing, but then just concentrate on the Zoom H2 recommendation and the parts at the end about the tech aspects of releasing a podcast.

Peace, guns and cats,
Michael W. Dean

General / Re: Any liberty-minded people in Los Angeles?
« on: October 23, 2011, 02:42:29 AM »
I lived in Echo Park Los Angeles, then in Agoura Hills, moved to Wyoming a couple years ago.

Get out of LA soon and go ANYWHERE else. (except NY, MA, or IL.)

So the question is, when I finally get one, should I go concealed or open?

Concealed.

1. You don't want a bad guy to know you're carrying because that'll just make you the first target.
2. Cops harass you.
3. Someone could grab it without warning.
4. Makes it harder to go about your day in general and will get you ugly stares.

Unless you're interested in antagonizing people I suppose. Activism and so on.

+1 to all this. When I first moved to Wyoming from Los Angeles a couple years ago, I open carried every day because I felt really free doing so. I was doing something that would get me SWATed and thrown in prison in LA.

But after a while I went to concealed almost exclusively, for all the above reasons. Even though from all I've seen and heard, this is the place in the country you will get hassled and stared at the least for open carry. Most people don't even notice when you open carry here.....partly because almost every adult male here already has a big-ass knife on his belt, and probably has a rifle in his truck, and a pistol in his truck if not under his shirt.

But all the above reasons are really good reasons to carry concealed most, if not all, the time.

Guns, Drugs, and Crazy Independence Stuff / Re: Pot
« on: October 23, 2011, 01:35:51 AM »
On the other hand, state governments (overall) have never had a more hands off approach (well, not in at least 50 years or so.)

Except my state. Wyoming recently passed a law to clarify that out-of-state medical marijuana permits would NOT be honored here. Even if you're dying a slow, painful death.

The same week they passed a law that no permit is needed for concealed carry of a pistol.

Republicans are as weird and fucked up as Democrats, but in different areas.

I don't smoke pot and I do carry a pistol. But as someone who watched his daughter get some relief from smoking pot while she died of cancer, pot laws drive me fucking furious.

The Polling Pit / Re: Demographics - Smoking?

Need to add a choice to the poll "Chain smoked for decades, now only using Vaporsmith e-cigs because FTL turned me on to them."

Should we include spares buried in the woods in PVC pipe, or just ones at home?

LRN.FM - The Liberty Radio Network / Re: Suggestion for a show on LRN

I don't know about Curry's personal issues or dealings, but I do find his show quite fun in small doses.

He DID co-invent podcasting,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_curry#Podcasting
so it would be very hard for me to bash anything he does.

He was also very gracious with me in the one e-mail dealing I've had with him, me asking permission to use something he said on NoAgenda about our movie, "Guns and Weed: The Road to Freedom." He gave us permission to use it as a blurb that's going to be on the cover of the DVD packaging:

"A great film. And it truly IS America.

LRN.FM - The Liberty Radio Network / Re: Freedom Feens on LRN
« on: October 23, 2011, 12:49:55 AM »
I was actually going to bitch at Ian for not having freedom feens on LRN, but found out today I don't need to.
I started listening about a month ago, and really like it, it is my second favourite podcast. Hope the other listeners like it as well.
http://www.freedomfeens.com/

Thanks man! We're honored! I have to assume your first fave is FTL, since you're a Gold AMPlifier. So saying we're your number two is, to me, kind of like if I had a garage band for six months and someone with good taste told me at our first gig "My favorite band is Led Zeppelin, but you're my second favorite."

Generally the rule is a show must be produced regularly for six months before they will be considered for inclusion.  Mike and Neema accomplished that, and here they are!

It's a smart policy. Minimizes the heartbreak of podfade. Generally podcasts that run at least weekly often start off with a bang and fade at three or four months. Podcasts that make it to six months tend to run a lot longer than that.

Thanks for inviting us to the party, Ian! And keep doing what you do.

What's a feen?

It's "fiend" in street speak or little kid speak.
