LUFKIN, Texas (AP) — A memorial service for former U.S Rep. Charlie Wilson will be held Sunday in Texas.

Wilson died Wednesday at the age of 76 in the eastern Texas town of Lufkin.

The Gipson Funeral Home says a memorial service will be held Sunday afternoon at the Temple Theater at Angelina College's Temple Theater in Lufkin.

Wilson will receive a Feb. 23 graveside service with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

Wilson served in the House from 1973 to 1996. He helped funnel millions of dollars in weapons to Afghan rebels who eventually defeated the Soviet Red Army.

The congressman's efforts to help the rebels — as well as his partying ways — were portrayed in the movie and book "Charlie Wilson's War."

I thought this quite an ominous right wing attempt to get out the vote.

there are a few songs/artists that have sprung up within the last decade that have produced pieces that either allude to revolt or just have a strong anti-government sentiment.

and of course...people seem to becoming more fed up and disenfranchised with DC in general.

A residence on the street I live in has been flying one of those Yellow "DONT TREAD ON MY FLAGS" since inauguration day.  (btw...This is Connecticut; not New Hampshire).  I marked that off as an anamoly until I noticed another residence a few weeks ago flying the same flag--on the same street even.

This thread is by no means an attempt endorse violence as a means to an end....

I'm just wondering if anyone else here on the boards has picked up on some of these or other subtle nuances of the times we live in.

Saudi court upholds child rapist crucifixion ruling

Quote
RIYADH (Reuters) - A Saudi court of cassation upheld a ruling to behead and crucify a 22-year-old man convicted of raping five children and leaving one of them to die in the desert, newspapers reported on Tuesday.

...but why would you behead the guy before you crucify him?

General / Larry David urinates on Jesus, angers religious community.

Read the Comments...  I thought it was a rather good show.  Curb Your Enthusiasm is great television.

Larry David Blasted for 'Curb' Episode Where He Urinates on Jesus Painting

Comedian Larry David is under attack from critics who say he pushed the mocking of religion and Christian belief in miracles over the edge in the latest episode of his HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm," which the cable network defended as "playful."

On the show's most recent installment, which aired Sunday, David urinates on a painting of Jesus Christ, causing a woman to believe the painting depicts Jesus crying.

Deal Hudson, author and publisher of InsideCatholic.com, said he doesn't find any humor in the episode.

"I don't think it's funny," Hudson told Foxnews.com. "Why is it that people are allowed to publicly show that level of disrespect for Christian symbols? If the same thing was done to a symbol of any other religions -- Jewish or Muslim -- there'd be a huge outcry. It's simply not a level playing field."

Hudson said an apology from the show's producers and writing team should be issued.

"Somebody should [apologize]," Hudson said. "When is it going to stop? When is common sense going to dictate that people realize this willingness of artists to do to Christianity what they would never do to Judaism or Islam?"

General / I entered a Sharpie Contest in September....
« on: October 19, 2009, 02:45:49 PM »
it was called "Project Backpack" sponsored by Office Depot.  You use Sharpie markers to design a backpack, and the winning entries receive up to $5000, with the potential of the design being printed and sold on backpacks next year.

The deadline was 9/19/2009, and I've been waiting patiently for a month to see whether or not I made the cut.  Finalists were supposed to be posted on the net on the 10/18/09

The date is now 10/19 and this is what I see when I go to the web page.

I don't understand.

General / Jay Leno stole a bit from South Park
« on: October 10, 2009, 01:56:15 PM »
Terry Bradshaw was a guest on Leno's new time slot last night, so they run a bit where they let a chicken predict the winner of three upcoming NFL games, and then get Bradshaw's opinion after the bird makes a decision.  What they did was have three platforms set up, each with two bowls of bird feed that corresponded to two separate teams that were scheduled to oppose eachother in the '09-'10 season.  They set the chicken down in the middle of the platform, and whichever bowl of bird feed he starts to peck from represents his determination of the winner.

I thought it was hiarious...

when I saw it on South Park.

General / This Man

Quote
In January 2006 in New York, the patient of a well-known psychiatrist draws the face of a man that has been repeatedly appearing in her dreams. In more than one occasion that man has given her advice on her private life. The woman swears she has never met the man in her life.

That portrait lies forgotten on the psychiatrist's desk for a few days until one day another patient recognizes that face and says that the man has often visited him in his dreams. He also claims he has never seen that man in his waking life.

The psychiatrist decides to send the portrait to some of his colleagues that have patients with recurrent dreams. Within a few months, four patients recognize the man as a frequent presence in their own dreams. All the patients refer to him as THIS MAN.

From January 2006 until today, at least 2000 people have claimed they have seen this man in their dreams, in many cities all over the world: Los Angeles, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Tehran, Beijing, Rome, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris, New Dehli, Moskow etc.

At the moment there is no ascertained relation or common trait among the people that have dreamed of seeing this man. Moreover, no living man has ever been recognized as resembling the man of the portrait by the people who have seen this man in their dreams.

Epidemic once again uncovers its malignant crown.

in one instantaneous instant a man made formula hatches out of its shell to inch closer to suppress the living and breathing.

the new born are nurtured in a world of a dishonest master design a layout constructed only for the purpose of dominance, authority and power.

born as slaves into bondage, born into a prison that they can't distinguish with smell or touch in a world thats been fallaciously influenced for decades

where the ones who offer solution are secretively the core of this ongoing problem

architects of control build their herds of municipal infantry with intentions of fear and panic

we all march quietly with open hands into global enslavement

drown us, submerge our bodies in the ocean of manipulation.
