Yes, Please resume tacking them on to the FTL podcast.  Those who don't want them can press "STOP" on their players....

I can't seem to get the correct address so my podcatcher can download the individual EP's anyway.

"Movie massacre suspect sent chilling notebook to psychiatrist before attack"

A Colorado university just 16 miles away from the site of Friday morning’s deadly ‘Batman’ massacre staged an identical exercise the very same day in which students were trained how to react to a gunman firing at people in a movie theater.

Hell Yeah!  Every day I find myself looking forward to it, and hoping nothing comes up which would prevent me from getting there.

I now live in ground zero of Evangelical Christendom so I really need the comradery of freedom lovers.

I want to make clear that I don't harbor any personal animosity toward Christians, even though I believe Christian brainwashing was a major factor in the end of my marriage.  I do resent the fact they have amassed such power that they create a repressive local culture.

At least the FSP chose a place where the existing inhabitants already had a liberty mindset!

So, this is off topic, but I'm on a roll and request your indulgence.

The city in which I live is home to more than 100 evangelical Christian organizations:

Regional or international headquarters:

Association of Christian Schools International
Christian and Missionary Alliance
Compassion International
Every Home for Christ
Focus on the Family
HCJB Global (missionary radio braodcasting)
International Bible Society
The Navigators
Hoops of Hope Basketball Ministry (I shit you not!)
WAY-FM Media Group
Andrew Wommack Ministries
Young Life
Bibles for the World
Christian Leadership Alliance
Crossroads Ministries International
World Prayer Center / New Life Church (Mega-Church of Ted Haggard fame)

I can't stand typing this anymore, and you can't stand reading it.

General / "Episodes & Show Prep" section under "The Show"
« on: May 13, 2012, 01:52:02 AM »
I see very few posts in the "Episodes & Show Prep" section under "The Show" section.

The "Episodes & Show Prep" section provides a great place to continue discussion of interesting ideas that come up during the show, or expand on subjects, or bitch about hosts / callers and whatever.

The "chat room" doesn't really work for this purpose because of people all talking at once, holding separate conversations at the same time, going off on tangents....  In my opinion, the forum style discussion encourages a more considered approach to discussing the ideas which come up.

I've been trying to get this going a little bit by posting links related to topics that were brought up during the show, throwing in my $.02 worth, etc.

I'd like to invite others to join me in this.  Maybe the hosts will even start reading "Episodes & Show Prep" and get some "show prep" from the discussions, or at least what topics are "hot" and which are "not".

Mental Block Breakthrough!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've always wondered about the name "The Onion"  Thought it was a very strange choice for a name.  But strangeness seems to be popular these days, so I didn't dwell on it.

But after someone read that article about not some conniving female not wanting to spoil her "friendship" with sex, I was laughing so hard tears ran down my face and then it hit me.

Cutting up onions makes you cry, so does laughing really, really hard.

Duh.

Yeah, that show will go down as one of my all-time favorites....

I think there was a reference made to the FBI Intelligence Assessment regarding Bitcoin.  Mark was going to post the link somewhere, but I don't know if he got around to it.  Here is a link to the best version I could find (some of the .pdf's I looked were a bit fuzzy- you could zoom in on the text but it was still blurry).

General / Will Porcfest 2012 be the beginning of the end?
« on: May 06, 2012, 10:39:17 PM »
This will be my first Porcfest.  After hearing all the stories, I just have to go.

But it looks as if the dark clouds of state regulation may be on the horizon....  It appears that they are banning alcohol sales this year.  See the section with the heading

Vendor Notes:

http://happyporcupine.info/agoravalley/

Do they always say this as a CYA, (wink wink nudge nudge)  in order to maintain plausible deniability if there are issues with Agents of the State?  Or is this the first of restrictions to come.  The Rodgers Campground people are after all the property owners and we would have to agree in principle that they have the right to set the rules.

I mean, I just want to get beer from a 9 year old girl, like the NPR guys did....

Maybe that will be a way around the restriction.  It says no "sales".  Maybe you can give it as a free bonus when you buy one of these here special poker chips or something.

What say you all?

I was a convenience store clerk working the graveyard shift during summer break while in college.  A couple times people would come in, go to the cooler, take a 12 pack or 2 and just walk out the door.  That's as much crime as I have seen in order to get alcohol.  Also, almost always it was "under age" people boosting it.  So it was almost never people stealing for lack of money, the crime was a DIRECT RESULT of prohibition / regulation....

Tonight there was spirited discussion of the use of violence (specifically firearms) for self defense.  Calls were way stacked up, so I'll make my contribution here.

I strongly encourage anyone who is at all interested in the subject (and doesn't think they already know all there is to know about it) read "In the Gravest Extreme: The Role of the Firearm in Personal Protection" by Massad F. Ayoob.  It is a bit outdated in terms of firearms technology, but the rest is pure gold.  It is considered a classic in the field of realistic armed self defense by "citizens" of good moral character.

To me the most valuable parts are about deescalation of situations, and "The Drama after the Drama" - the terrible emotional trauma and the very real possibility that you will be prosecuted criminally, and the very high likelihood that you will also be sued civilly, where the burden of proof is significantly lower.

More on the book:

OK, I revisited the site- It does look as if there is an option of being an independent and not having to "hang out with a bunch of uptight christians on boats."  But your point is well taken.  It will be interesting to see it this concrete boat thing ever makes it to fruition.
