General / Sexy Tunes
« on: December 20, 2011, 01:53:35 PM »
Hey we are looking for some new songs to cover in my band. The primary goal is to find SEXY dance tunes. We're still playing just covers so it would have to be fairly recognizable and popular.. I'd like to stay with popular music within the last 15 years. I don't have a trans am with t-tops so we can't do 80's butt rock, metal, classic rock or anything you've heard at the same clone of a clone of a wedding for the last 30 years. It would have to work with only guitar, bass and drums. We're not silly enough to have a synth player.

Little Sister by QOTS is a perfect example of what I'm looking for. The whole bar needs a shower after we play this one.

Queens Of The Stone Age - Little Sister

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated unless it's nickelback :) We are going to rule this neck of the woods if we can nail down a half dozen or so more songs as grrrreasy as this.

General / Why Do I Prefer This To Porn
« on: June 08, 2011, 12:12:11 AM »
I just bought a new rig tonight (the red one on the left. It is the first non-black guitar I've bought in years.)

I feel more intriqued by this axe than I have ever been intrigued by a crush toward the opposite sex.

Is this odd? I'm not in to cockandnutz, I find women sexually appealing, but damn, I really do prefer the red guitar above... The shape of the headstock.... ohhh mamaa. This has been a long time coming :)

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME... and HOW CAN I FIX IT

Hey, I boozing a bit and want to throw an idea out there for a liberty oriented wireless "intranet" device.

Envision a cheap wireless router you plug in to power but not in to an internet connection. The router just sits there broadcasting its name for any wireless device in the area to see. When a computer, ipad, smartphone etc, connects to this access point, any request (for example www.google.com) gets redirected to a stand-alone web page that is running from the router iteself, not the internet.

I am envisioning the web page could be a welcome message telling the visitor what just happened and asks people to visit websites like FTL etc whenever they get online. The page could also have a listing of MP3s and video files of things like FTL or other LRN poscasts. All these files would be served off the local USB drive plugged in to the router.

The owner of the router could add and remove podcasts, videos etc by simply removing the USB key from the router and plugging it in to a PC and copying new podcasts, video over.

I thought it would be a good way to propogate the formula in places like apartment complexes, college dorms, office buildings, hotels, conferences, or wherever there is a high concentration of people accessing wireless internet. You could plug one of these routers in your dorm, apartment, or wherever and let it sit. Whenever someone in your area fires up their wireless device, they will see a new wireless network called "Liberty Network" or something along these lines. Maybe "Free Boobies" would work better, but may be misleading.

If you ever wanted to add new content, you would just pull the usb key and copy files from your PC to the USB and pop it back in to the router. The standalone website would automatically refresh itself to display the new content. You could also make this portable by plugging the router in to a small lithium ion battery inverter. This would easily fit in a purse or laptop bag and could be fired up wherever there a lot of people looking to connect to a wireless AP.

If enough of these existed in an area, it would also be a nice way to spread information in the event the govt. decides to turn off the internets.

I am guessing this would be pretty do-able using an off the shelf linksys or asus etc. router with a USB port that supports DDWRT or Tomato. It would be nice to offer the firmware file for download so anyone who can set up a wireless router can accomplish the flashing to the new firmware. Beyond that, they would just need to provide a USB key and populate it with all the podcasts, videos etc. they desire. Just have the owner rename the filename to something descriptive like "Free Talk Live Podcast 3-12-11.mp3" and have the filename be used as the link in the web page so you wouldn't have to manage an index.

Anyway, just a random thought I had last night. Just wondering if there is merit in persuing this or would somethign like this have no impact or worth.

Or am I drunk?

General / Modern Popular Rock Songs With Dancable Beats
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:03:00 PM »
Hey, I sing in a 4 piece rock band and we are looking to fill up the rest of our sets with fairly current (year 2000 on) tunes that have a beat that will get the drunks out on the dance floor. Our target audience is the 21 to 35 year old range.

I am having trouble finding current songs that people can dance to. I can't take playing the same old 1980's wedding fare you hear over and over again. I have trouble singing Mony Mony by Billy Idol with a shotgun in my mouth.

Paralyzer by Finger 11, and the Middle by Jimmy Eat World are the only songs I can think of off hand.

Any suggestions? Although it goes against everything that is me, I would like to stick with stuff that is easily recognizable by the masses.

Thanks for the help!

General / Selling my Mexican Strat
« on: December 28, 2010, 11:59:01 PM »
Well, I've decided to sell my '94 mex Fender Strat. I fell in love with a Gibson today and think I can swing it if I sell a couple lesser machines.

I put a new pearl pick guard on it tonight, strung it, and polished everything. It almost looks too nice to sell now :)

It looks and plays like new. Frets are in great condition. It plays like new.

Do you think $350 would be a good starting price to ask with strap, gig bag and an old dod pedal?

General / Why Do I Love This Guitar So?
« on: September 25, 2010, 02:06:00 AM »

Just picked this up at the local guitar shop. "Danelectro Deadon '67". I feel like a 7 year old at christmas and have no idea why. My Les Paul and Strat are ten times the machine this thing is but I can't get enough of this plastic POS. Radio Shack style pots and switches, a wooden bridge and a tremolo bar that looks like a spork from taco bell. I'm still looking for the "Made exclusively for Kmart" sitcker. It sounds like shit on the clean channel but growels just as nice as the Les Paul when you turn it up to 11.

Serious though. I am nearly in tears here. Talked the local shop down to $115 dollars for it. The thing is absolutely gnarly sounding and stays in tune when beaten on.

I'm going to go gaze at it for a few more hours now. brb

General / I Got the Munchies and Ate...

So, after partaking in something (after a loooooooong time off),  I walked to the corner store and bought 4 candy bars. A Snickers, a Butterfinger, an Almond Joy and a Twix. I went home and microwaved 2 packages of cream cheese to a dip-like texture. I then dipped the candy bars in the melted cream cheese and then dusted them in powdered sugar.

This was good,

BUT,

I then dove in to my dogs peanut butter flavored dog biscuits.

The cheesy candy bars were good... The dog biscuits were EPIC!

How about you? Anything better than this?

General / Overly Trimmed Eyebrows, and capri pants.
« on: July 23, 2010, 01:29:41 AM »
OK,

So, am I the only one who is freaked out by how many women are overly sculpting their eyebrows as of late? I think it makes women look like an alien or totally fucking insane. I don't mind a little trimming here and there to prevent a unibrown but a majority of women I see in bars lately creep the fuck out of me with the eye brow trimming thing. Can someone please explain the trend to me?

Also, fuck off with the capri pants. We get it, you want to wear shorts but your thighs are too big. Wear normal pants or get on the treadmill. It's not that difficult to figure out.

Hugs and smooches :)
