The Show / Re: Podcast commercials way louder than show

It is a little difficult to change the volume at 70mph on a motorcycle.

Didn't we used to have little AMP indicators on here?

So, the people that did the killing were just following orders?

So, Manson is guilty because of someone else's actions?

General / Charles Manson: where's the victim?

I was stunned to hear Ian deviate from a principled position. Thanks to Ally for being consistent.

Manson didn't kill anyone. The people he influenced might be able to make the case that they are his victims but that would be a civil matter.

Ian was willing to get on the slippery slope with a comment like, "it would be socially irresponsible to let him be free."

The Show / Podcast commercials way louder than show
« on: February 20, 2012, 05:25:35 PM »
I think they are spots added for the regular podcast. Female voiced spot. They are way louder than the program. Hurts my ears, and if I turn it down, I can't hear the show when it comes back.

Been on a V-star 1100 for a few months. Too wide for splitting lanes. A bitch to work on. Small gas tank. Awkward foot controls for big feet.  The power is adequate but the clutch slips if I get on the throttle. I've read it needs stiffer clutch springs.
(I'm experienced and I have the right tools.)
Changed the rear tire today.
Took 3 hours for me to get the wheel off. 30 mins for the shop to mount+balance. About 2 hours to put it all back together. By comparison, my old Suzuki GS took about an hour for the same work.
Yamaha V-star 1100. Not user friendly.
My Kawasaki rear tire change:

Heft bike up on center stand (sometimes a lot harder than it looks, ouch my back).
Remove right side muffler (2 bolts, a couple minutes max)
Remove rear axle bolt (about a minute)
Pop rear wheel from rear drive shaft
Pay 10 bucks for the shop to change the tire (I'm not changing tubeless street tires myself thanks very much!)
Reverse.  Easy peasy.
Yup I feel pretty burned by Yamaha. (V-star)
Lift bike really high so you can clear the fender, remove covers, bags, left bag frame, mufflers, remove bolts from half the luggage rack, rear brake caliper, caliper bracket, brake hose mount, drain rear gear oil, remove axle clamp, axle nut, pull wheel and rear drive with shaft, remove axle, remove rear drive from wheel. Get tire swapped, $35 (CA).  Reverse, adding grease to drive parts and then refill gear oil before putting the rest back together.
I hear the FJR is better

HD and satellite sound like shit to me. But then, I can hear the difference. Most people don't care.
Yes, they sound like crap and yes, most listeners don't care.
HD radio has more potential but few stations take the necessary steps to maximize audio quality.

Stations I work for in L.A. still play songs that were dubbed from Carts that were dubbed from vinyl. They also still have songs stored in Layer2 compression at about 4:1. It is actually worse than analog FM because we are cascading algorithms between 2 and 4 times.
We had an HD3 that played cuts from mp3, through a Barix IP codec, up to the TX on a 4:1 aptx codec through a T-1, and then through the HD packaging(like AAC). It was barely intelligible and has been turned off. The recovered bandwidth was given back to the HD2 which doesn't sound much better.

There's no evidence that it matters at all. There've now been plenty of str8 kids raised by same sex parents and all the horrors seem to just be in people's heads. All you've got is "This is how it's been for a really long time"? Pfft. Evolve already.
uh, I also claimed that, generally, men and women have different things to offer a child. My post doesn't suggest any "horrors", just the suggestion that a healthy straight relationship of parents could be positive for a child that turns out to have a hetero preference later in life.

Been listening to HD channels around L.A. I predict it is a doomed technology. It can't compete with satellite.
XM is rock solid. HD drops out if you look at it wrong. On the HD2-HD3 it mutes because there is nothing to fall back on like the main carrier.
Also, the selling points of HD were better audio, more user services, and multi-channel. But, it only sounds better when it works, the "services" require stations to pay license fees to use them, and HD2/3..are worthless. There's no revenue in HD radio, so stations are turning it off.

The good news is, all the HD gear displaced other gear that will make its way into the market.

Has that happened?

Sunday show (24 January 2012) - she got to yammering on three different times during the podcast; when she finally shut up, sanity was restored. She attempted to define weird and marriage, but largely kept her inane ramblings to a minimum.
Yes, predictable as always. Let's just ignore thousands of years of history because someone might be offended to hear that men and women are generally different and generally have different things to offer a child. On the off chance that a child might grow up to be straight, maybe we could hope they have a, positive, hetero, parental relationship as a model? I've heard that kids can be impacted by what they see while growing up.

Last night I locked my phone, keys, and wallet in my car: while it was running.

I watched a youtube video and learned how to make and use a slim-jim. The first success took about 20 minutes.
The next try took about 3 seconds.
Anyone willing to steal from a car: can.

I must say that when she was in the first chair her voice was way less annoying. She did well when she hosted the show for Mark.

Along those lines; I get irritated when a host says, "I've got a couple points to make" and then never gets past the first one. If they take a call, fine. It's when the other hosts get into a tangent, like girl vs. woman, that we get lost and lose what could have been a good discussion about freedom and free markets and such....

I'm glad Mark took a break but I don't recall hearing live reads when he was at his volunteer training. I wondered if the clients demand Mark's voice or if others are dropping the ball?
