Got fed up with cheap assed controls. I used to own (WAY back) one of the Logitech 'Immersion' force feedback mice. It basically had a bunch of vibration modes for when you hovered, clicked etc. Was fucking awesome and I'm bummed that the tech never caught on.  That mouse died a long time ago. (I literally rubbed the bottom off of it from use and went though several teflon tape revisions to keep it running. Eventually they stopped supporting drivers for it and OSes no longer played nice with the vibration, so it was pointless to go on.) Since then I've been a cheap fucker about mice. Never more than 30 bones or so. (The Immersion mouse was 90 bux in 1999 dollars.)

Anywho, Woot had a deal the other day on a movie tie in mouse that also happened to be a high end gaming mouse. Twas the Razer Tron edition mouse. Does up to 5600dpi and has a bunch of lil buttons on the side and LIGHTS UP and MAKES A TRON LIGHT CYCLE WOOSH SOUND WHEN IT'S PLUGGED IN OR YOU BOOT YER 'PUTER.

It's badass. Anyway, Woot had it for 30 bones. It's listed everywhere at between 99 and 130, so I consider it an awesome dealio.

I'm also historically a mousing surface snob. I bought one of the first Everglide mouse pads. (Everglide was the first specialty gaming mouse pad joint.

I wore it out by eventually rubbing the surface smooth. Was a good pad though. Lasted four years or so. Then I boughted the Everglide Giganta, which was lolxboxhuge version of the original. That lasted about the same amount of time.

The most recent one was a Razer eXactmat, which is a huge aluminum bodied monstrosity with a thinner plastic coating. It worked about as well, cost more, and lasted half as long maybe. One benefit was that both sides had the surface on it, so in the end I got about the same four years or so.

Before Xmas I said fuck it. I'm not going the pussy store bought route anymore. I wanted to figure out what the best possible mousing surface was. It needed to be really strong, really reflective to a beam of light but at the same time reflect in a course way, and really really smooth when you slide something across it. I didn't wanna be able to rub the surface off again.

What the hell is as smooth as glass but still reflects light in a really sorta bumpy way? Motherfucking carbon fiber bitches, that's what. So I poked around and saw that they actually already make carbon fiber mouse pads. Or so they say. Most of them were actually a shitty piece of plastic with a shitty piece of "carbon fiber look" vinyl on 'em.

Fucking lame. So after digging I found some real ones. They were all 8 inches by 6 or 7 and cost sixty bux or more. And they were all really thin. Also fucking lame.

I knew I could do better. So I just started looking for carbon fiber plates. There was a joint selling 12x12 inch, 4mm thick plates for fifty bones. Cheaper than the designed-as-a-mousepad versions and about the same price as the "Pro" gaming mouse pads from Razer. (Which are still great but I wanted to go hard fucking core yo.)

So I got my friggin' carbon fiber plate that came with warnings about using machine tools to cut it and I got my friggin' pimpass mouse that glows and goes FREEOWER when you turn it on. Here's pics -

Moral of the story is get a friggin' 12 inch carbon fiber plate to use for your mouse if you like big mouse pads that will prolly never wear out. Got the mouse today, but been using the pad for a couple-few weeks and there aren't even any little micro scratches on it yet.

I've already shown ya'll my pimpass microswitch keyboard (Classic 104 Black) from Unicomp that goes CLICKY CLICKY CLACKY so I won't belabor you with more pics, but assume that my opinion on it is just as high if not higher than ever. Soon Imma buy a second one and a bag of new switches and stick them on a shelf just in case the company ever goes under. Nothing in the world like a steel framed Model M keyboard updated with the latest tech.

Show me yer friggin' mouse/controller/keyboard/awesomesauce please.

Ever do that? How do you reconnect?

Just pretend nothing happened? Let everyone know and apologize?

33
Or Imma go on a fucking rampage.

Seriously.

It's hard to always remember these tips, so I'm writing them down for my use and yours. I have violated all of them on occassion, and so have you, but let's try to remember 'em anyhow.

1. Post interesting new topics.

2. Don't shit on threads.

3. Stay somewhat on topic.

4. Come up with new ideas rather than complain about other people's bad ideas.

5. Get real. Let the shield slip a bit. The hottest area of the BBS apart from General has been Serious Business, because people can be honest and open without being attacked, and most people actually DO care about each other.

6. Posts that are nothing but a news article usually end up making for lame threads. Everyone makes 'em, including me, but today's news is tomorrow's old news. Talk about the core of an issue and cite an article, but don't just post a link and expect a bunch of people to say much beyond "Well that sucks" or "Those fucking assholes!"

7. Stop fucking fighting and attacking other users and mods. The flame wars have *Got* to fucking stop or people stay away. You have a beef, send a PM and talk it out directly or if you can't be bothered walk away from it. I know this one is fucking hard.

8. Try to be aware of the "Narcissism of small differences". Almost everyone who comes here (Apart from trolls and political noobs) is interested in getting government out of their lives to one degree or another. Sure, "More" is better, but "Some" is still pretty good. Yes, I don't see the point of voting or giving money to politicians, but no, I shouldn't bash other people who do. Same for you.

9. Make threads that ask questions. Those ones seem to do well. Curiosity creates conversation. I've seen weird and goofy threads lead to great conversations, and I've seen very serious threads devolve into boring shitstorms. If the mood is light, people open up.

10. Accept that the site is moderated now and quit bitching about it. Go to /b/ if you want random insanity with random people who you'll never know or care about and with zero accountability.

11. Stop complaining about me, John Shaw, personally. When I am left alone I participate, and frankly, and I say this with no egotism intended, I start many of the threads that people want to converse in. It's not because I'm a mod and that makes me some sort of fucking leader or some bullshit. I had just as big an effect before I was a mod and long timers here will attest to that. Apply this rule to any other user who adds more than they take. Don't bite the hand that feeds you and you'll get fat. If you haven't noticed, every time someone starts shit with me nowadays I'll engage for a little bit and then leave for several days. There is a reason for this. You don't get what small or large benefit I bring to the table if you treat me badly. The same goes for other people as well, but maybe they don't have the temerity to say it out loud. I notice Joy and Dale and a bunch of the cooler people posting more when shit isn't flying everywhere.

12. Stop bitching about the lack of volume and speak up about shit. Stop fucking cursing the darkness and light a goddamned candle already.

Pork rinds?

We bought a couple bags of cracklins a but back and I fried them up in a pan with oil. Shit turned into mini pork rinds. Was figuring that rinds without sugar added would almost fit onto the paleo radar.

Next question - Has anyone ever bought the buckets of pork pellets for making rinds?

Naked woman, 21, climbed inside gutted dead horse because she wanted to 'feel at one' – and no charges were brought

Oregon police say they will not file charges against a 21-year-old woman after pictures of her climbing naked inside the carcass of a dead horse surfaced online.

Disturbing photos of the Portland-area woman, whose name has not been released, show her small frame soaked in blood smiling at the camera.

The woman, whose boyfriend took the pictures, said she wanted to 'feel one' with the horse, according to an incident report.

But despite the graphic and disturbing nature of the photographs, Washington County investigators say the couple did not break the law.

In addition to the picture of the petite woman, who stands 5'6" and 119lbs, smiling from inside the horse, another photo shows her blood-soaked body standing in front of the animal.

The woman and her boyfriend are also pictured holding what is believed to be the animal's heart; and a fourth photo shows the pair holding a piece of the animal in front of their mouths as they pretend to eat it.

Washington County Sergeant Dave Thompson told local KOIN-TV even he was shocked by the graphic evidence.

'At some point you in your career you say yeah I've seen a lot of bad stuff - you see this kind of picture and you realise maybe you haven't seen everything,' he said.

Police told the station the woman and her boyfriend had recently taken over care of the 32-year-old horse, which had lived in Ridgefield, Washington.

Washington County’s investigation is suspended because no criminal activity had taken place.

The animal was reportedly in declining health.

According to an incident report, the couple told investigations they fired a single shot with a high powered rifle to put the horse down in effort to 'humanely kill the horse and eat the meat', according to KOIN.

The woman's mother said she had no knowledge of the incident until she was shown photos by the station. She says her daughter has since received death threats from angry people across the U.S.

The mother confirmed the horse's meat was harvested and eaten.

Ever had a health scare that actually changed your behavior?

Was it a hard transition?
