The Rubber Room - Not Safe for Work / Shit You Don't Do In Public
« on: July 27, 2012, 02:38:57 AM »
I absolutely hate having to go to the bathroom when I'm at the gym. I go so far as to walk both ways to avoid having to shower there. Its because some people don't know whats appropriate for inside, and outside of their homes.

Because every time I need to go, there is some buck naked asshole shaving himself in front of the mirrors. We don't need to see that you fuck. Plus, they're shaving. What the hell?

What are some other things people shouldn't do in public?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/aurora-shooting-died-bullets-sweeties-article-1.1119395

Its not to be unexpected that some people valiantly tried to save others during the Aurora shootings, but this article struck a nerve with me. In three separate instances, men took a bullet for their girlfriends. As a youth I would have said that they were brave, and made a noble sacrifice, but now, I don't know. Not one instance came up where a woman saved a boyfriend or husband. You could say its biology, or evolution that wires our brains this way, but it never seems as if the level of self sacrifice men exhibit is ever reciprocated.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have noticed a steady progression of selfishness in myself as I've grown older. In theory at least, I would ay that my life is worth as much as any other persons, and that I wouldn't sacrifice myself for anyone else. In practice, I don't know what would happen.

ABC has, or had a show that revolved entirely around moral decision making in public settings. In "What Would You Do?" they would manufacture a scenario in public to see if others would denounce something immoral. Its voyeuristic, its mean, and a lot of the scenes aren't presented in a fair manner. But it does show how the average person would react.

The social experiments showed that pretty consistently women would leap to the rescue when its a social issue, and men would leap to the rescue in a physical situation.

Yeah, this didn't turn out as coherent as I meant it to be, but what do you make of it?

My mom was watching the news while I was over at my parents house, and she remarked "this country is becoming more of a police state every day." She grew up in Iran, and remembers the revolution.

General / Economics of Sex
« on: May 25, 2012, 04:22:05 AM »
In China, and India, the practice of sex selective abortions has changed the demographics of the two most populous nations in the world.

What I have always wondered about this is if it will change cultural views on women as they will be harder to find in 20 years, when everyone begins to get married. In India, for example, girls are considered a burden because of the dowry that they must be given with. But in a situation where the relative "price" of women goes up, I don't understand how that could continue.

Your thoughts?

General / Fucked Up Thing About Films, and TV
« on: May 24, 2012, 06:31:31 PM »
Ever notice how in films, its still rare to see a black, and white person kiss, without it being a part of the story?

Why do they still practice miscegenation in film?
The fuck is up with that?

Just last week I was watching American Ninja 4, and the two male protagonists (one black, one white) were introduced to the female protagonist. I noticed that in the most awkward way possible the foil interrupts the black guy to get the white guy to talk to the woman.

I swear, we'll know the last remnant of our cultural awkwardness with this is gone when two men kiss on TV without it being part of the plot.

I'm pretty sure you all already agree that taking a plea deal always sucks compared to fighting it out in court.

But I want to prove it. I want to figure out a way, using game theory to see if its in the interest of the accused to either

-always plea
-always take it to court
-sometimes plea, and sometimes take it to court.

What are your thoughts?

General / PICS!!!!!
« on: May 17, 2012, 04:54:32 AM »
I have a new shitty base model phone with no real redeeming qualities. It cant even store texts all that well, so I have to delete them regularly. What the shit is that? Text doesn't even take up all that much space, compared to pics.

The one redeeming quality, as it were is an intentionally terrible drawing program on the phone. You use your thumb to crudely mark in one of 8 colors and produce a drawing.

The game between my siblings and myself is for me to make a painting on this crappy canvas, off of memory, and see if they can guess what the painting is.

Guns, Drugs, and Crazy Independence Stuff / Helping North Koreans
« on: May 17, 2012, 04:25:14 AM »
I feel sorry for the average guy in the North. No one single individual can do much about the situation they're in. They're poor, lied to, and unable to break their brutal regime. I think its reasonable to assume that were it put up to a vote, they national government would be dissolved, and the upper echelons hanged.

But getting to that point is pretty difficult. Hell, the entirety of Gene Sharps "From Dictatorship To Democracy" is inapplicable.

No nation lasts forever, and perestroika ended the Soviet Union. Something similar can end the DPRK, and it doesn't even take violent government intervention to do it.

Violent government intervention is counterproductive. As long as the United States is on the peninsula, the South will be seen as a lackey of America by the North. Japan is hamstrung by the United States, because were it not, the Japanese would have attacked the North by now for all of the kidnappings they've done.

People in the USSR lost their shit over gum, jeans, and makeup.

So, best way to weaken the North? I think free people should channel Rousseau, and "make them free." By emulating the Berlin airlift, and airdropping food, gum, porn, and other things into the North, free people in Russia, China, and South Korea can antagonize the North, but put them in a position where they couldn't easily retaliate because any violent response on their part would trigger severe backlashes. I checked the pricing on weather balloons, air tanks, rice, and wind maps are pretty easy to get.  I cant figure a way to parachute the material in, but someone else might have a better solution to this.

The governments of China, Russia, and South Korea will make a half hearted attempt to try and find the individuals responsible. The simplicity of the design makes it easy for copycats to follow once arrested. And the North Koreans will read shit like 1984, and Naked Lunch, which will blow their minds.

Now what do you think guys?

General / Ends Justifying Means
« on: May 16, 2012, 01:09:57 AM »
I have a problem that I can't come up with an answer to.

In California, we have a lot of illegal immigrants here. That's cool and all, and were supposed to believe in open borders, right?

Well, they tend to have a lot of children, and those (now legal) children tend to vote for right leaning Democrats. So, California has an ass-backwards political culture where pot isn't quite legal yet, taxes are high, social services are up in your grill. Its the worst of every world liberty-wise.

Now, deport those immigrants, and a considerable number of their children will have no choice but to follow them. You wont have another generation of more taxes, more regulation, etc. Well, the problem with this is that you will create a culture of greater freedom by violating other peoples freedom. Ends don't justify means, but damnit, I want to live in a state with pot, and guns, and I can't do that now.

What thinks you?

An interesting thing occurred to me the other day, and its implementation came to me now. Drunk as I am.

RFID is pretty fucking cheap. Police cars are covered in bumper stickers. Now, if people put those chips in reproduction stickers, and stuck them to cop cars, and the readers onto lightpoles, the cops could be tracked pretty easily.

General / Fucking Peanutbutter Jars
« on: February 11, 2012, 11:46:53 PM »
I fucking hate the way peanutbutter jars are designed. If its more than half empty, your hand will have a messy, greasy peanutbutter residue on it from the edges of the jar when you stick your hand down there with a butter knife.

Fuck that shit!

A peanutbutter jar should be designed to be wider, shorter, and the neck should be flush with the inside of the body of the jar so you can scrape it more easily with a butter knife.

I would eat peanutbutter twice as often if I knew I wouldn't get any on my hands.
