Google ordered to wipe out sex images by court?? Really?? It turns out that European courts have ruled that the sex images of an orgy by Max Mosley have to be "filtered" by google. Sure enough when I tried to search the term "Max Mosley sex image" the results page was BLANK! Never seen a blank page in a google search before. Just for fun I tried it with startpage and although there were some "censored" fuzzy images in some news stories, I could not find any links to the REAL images and no video either.
I know there are some great porn sniffers here, maybe someone can actually find something in Russia or elsewhere, but I think this is amazing that this can simply be "wiped" from the web...

General / In Beijing for Antique Car Rally (I'm driving-watchout)

Not sure how many people read these forums now but I thought that this would be the best place for me to share my experiences. This trip is to take part in (I believe the 3rd) Beijing to Shanghai antique car rally. I will be driving an older Mercedes (I wanted to ship my 78 Corvette Pace Car but that did not happen as we were too late). We arrived in Beijing a couple of days ago and we are now just visiting with friends and family until the first official day of the rally which is the 9th. Our first leg will be from Beijing to Tianjing which is a very short drive of under 2 hours. It's a timed event so how fast your car is does not really play into the scoring. For each leg we will be released in timed segments and scored when we arrive. No GPS are allowed and we have a navigator (my wife - which means we will be lost alot) with a print out of the directions. When we arrive the cars will be displayed for spectators to admire (damn I wish I'd gotten that Corvette shipped in time).

I've called Alex about this starting about 10 years ago and all he does is yell at me and cut me off. He will not address the FACTS that I put to him. I have been to China at least 20 times in the last 18 years and my wife is from there so we go often to visit with family.
I will grant you that China DOES have a one child policy that they enforce primarily through economic means. This usually means you will lose your position if you work for a government agency as perhaps half of the Chinese do. My wife and her sister were born right before this policy went into effect. Many of her cousins were born after the policy went into effect. She has TWO uncles who each had 4 children DURING this period. They NEVER were threatened with being hauled away and aborted. Any child born to a family has lifetime health care and some education benefits. However, if your parents have a second child, BOTH children lose these benefits. If the parents work for government agency's they will both lose their jobs.
Now I'm SURE that there have been some cases of rogue agents who did some terrible things to women who had a child in violation of the policy and even ONE such action is too much. In some back-country areas, the local authorities do things that are against policy (and a forced abortion would be against policy).
In one case where my wife's uncle (a peasant farmer) had his 4th daughter, the local enforcers came and took away their couch as a penalty. For a year they could not afford another couch, so it was a penalty they found uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I have met this uncle and his 4 daughters several times and I've met many people in China who have multiple children. It is difficult on those who have more than one child, but it's not so bad that they stop everyone from having multiple Children.
THINK PEOPLE !!! This policy took effect in 1976. IF THEY WERE ENFORCEING IT 100%, WHY IS THE POPULATION OF CHINA INCREASING ???

General / Questions about the Zimmerman video...

I've seen a lot of CCTV video and this one has a couple of funny aspects. Maybe some of you can explain them.
1. The camera is constantly shaking like it's on a flag pole in the wind but this video seems to be in an enclosed garage.
2. The camera pans and follows Zimmerman. While there are certainly pan and zoom capabilities on some CCTV cameras, why bother panning the camera unless the video operator is looking for something?
3. The same "shaky" camera motion continues on the second camera within the facility.
Was there an earthquake going on there???
It really looks in both views like a handheld camera rather than one mounted firmly to a wall or ceiling.
Ok, those are my questions, anyone have some answers??

The Show / 53:28 on hold - It's still "Ian and Mark Talk Live" - to hell with the callers..

Since today is the TRUE April Fools Day I thought I'd give it a try to call in and talk about taxes. After 53:28 on hold on the amp line while Ian and Mark (and the girl) chat up a storm and finally take two callers (ignoring the amp line) I gave up. I was hoping that the show would eventually get back to it's roots and REALLY be a show about the callers, but I see that's not the case. And since it's not Saturday (as Ian always likes to use as his excuse to keep talking and ignoring the callers) the traffic cannot be blamed.
Anyway, maybe I'll try again in 6 months...

I always have problems getting good results from this BBS search function so just as a test I typed in "gene ray" in quotes (just like that) and I only get 3 hits. I did not select any timeframe so every potential post with "gene ray" should show up. What gives?

General / Observations in China 2009

This trip to China so far has been one day in Hong Kong and one day train ride to Wuhan and now one day in Wuhan. I have some observations so far that I should report (as the spy who flunked spy school)...
There are some basic differences between the US and China that are obvious such as the level of income being about 1/10 (or less) of what people in the US make. Still, people here have very different expenses that make that smaller amount really much more.
"It's the Economy Stupid..."
Although the economy here is slowing, it is nowhere near what is happening in the US. There is high unemployment here but maybe not even as high as the US. The way of measurement in the US is so misleading, it's hard to compare. We take anyone off the "unemployment" rolls who has exceeded their 6 month unemployment benefit whether they have found a job or not. I do not know how they figure unemployment in China, but I believe it is a bit more honest as they don't even have the concept of a 6 month benefit period to cloud their figures. People here do not have all the free perks that poor people in the US benefit from so they have a strong incentive to find work and to work hard. 10-12 hour days are not abnormal and some business men will spend so much time at the office that the kids seldom see their dads. Construction workers are seen living in tents on the street next to the construction site. Now at first encounter, we reel with disgust and claim that these conditions are "cruel" and "unfair". Most of these men working at menial labor have the choice to stay on the farms where they came from but they choose the construction work as the pay is better and they can actually save some money or send it home.
Now compare this "incentive" to work to get ahead to our socialist society where people gain more money from staying home and pumping out babies. We reward the lazy by providing more money for bad behavior. If you make a claim of having a "bad back" you can get "disability" payments that are far and away more than anything most people who work in most of the world get. Now this is not to say that people don't have a bad back, but even if you do have one, there are jobs that you can do that are easy on your back so just change occupations. These "disability" payments do not grow on trees... We all pay in higher taxes and higher insurance payments. Now "TAXES".... (one of my favorite gripes...)
In China they actually RAISED the amount people have to earn before having to "pay" an income tax. We asked a taxi driver what the income tax rate was and he didn't even know as there is no way he will ever have to pay one. No one here pays an income tax unless they make more than 125,000 yuan (about 7 to $1). The only people who make this kind of money are wealthy businessmen, some lawyers and some doctors. None of the working class pays any income tax nor is there a sales tax. In fact, the "gang that is called government" has a policy that the average person should never have to pay such taxes. There are, of course "user fees" for your small business in the form of "fire protection" and other fees that I'm not sure of, but no where near the burden that is heaped upon the sheeple in the "US of A" where the burden is now easily 50% of total income.
Cash is still king here and anything can be purchased for cash. We bought two "sim cards" for our cell phones here with cash. We have two new completely anonymous phone numbers that we purchased with cash and no paperwork. No one knows who owns these two phone numbers and we could easily use this sim card to make one phone call and then throw it away. No one could ever trace it.

Ok. Torr-project.org is one prospect. Also I heard the commercial for patriot-internet.com and there may be other ways around it. I do have my office computers here in the US that I can remote from China using logmein.com through my account there, but there has to be better ways...

Am I wrong for being BORED with freetalklive now that it has turned into a chick show with all this talk about their "feelings" about how scared they are of freedom and how the big bad boogie man is going to haul them all away to the closet if we actually acknowledge that the "government" doesn't exist and certainly doesn't "protect" us in any way. That's life girls, and no one is really behind the curtain...
Ian, you need to loose your policy of letting the ladies first if they are going to call in such huge numbers. The guys don't have a chance to get on when you keep moving them to the front of the line...
Even my wife thinks it's pretty silly to have all these ladies on and no men anymore...
I for one will have to start listening to another show in the evening if this continues much longer... And I have been listening for many years now and don't change channels easily.
