I'm a brainiac.  I can't cook worth a damn though.

Except I make bitchin sub sandwiches, but those only count as "cooking" because I toast them.

The sub sandwich thing is awesome though.  I've not yet been able to master the sandwich.  I still go to delis for mine if I really want a good sandwich.  I iz jealous.   :D

What a nice thing to say!  Dankesehr.

my thumb is double jointed and I get people to think they broke my finger sometimes. . . they freak out.

Almost exactly this -- I pretend mine is "dislocated", not broken.  It panics the fuck out of people.  Fun fun fun fun fun fun...

The Polling Pit / Re: Economic Crisis groupthink?

Aside from the hit to stocks/mutual funds, no discernible effects to my life.  There are two wonderful companies that have all but promised me a job the minute I'm available, and another two that I'm talking with.  I realize it's my social/patriotic/civic duty to panic and moan and wring my hands when a politician cues me.*  I'm just not a good citizen, I suppose.

*That's a swipe at politicians, not at anyone else!

At a banquet Saturday night. That's my brother Timothy on the left.

You guys look slick.

Agree, you wear it well.  Me, I could never pull off that sort of look.

Jesus, serious voodoo in those cupcakes.

My biggest pet peeve with organized sports is people who refer to their team as 'we' and 'us'. "Did you see the game last night?"  "Yeah, we totally sucked."  Rooting for a team does not make you a part of the team.

I've not heard the argument that it's irrational.

Well it's not so much that it's irrational - anything that you do because you find value in it is rational, per se. But it can be said to be illogical in an objectivist sense. People feel a sense of accomplishment when "their" team wins, even though they really had jack-all to do with the team's victory. They feel like it makes "their city" better than the city or region represented by the team they defeated.

It is illogical in that sense. But like I said, I don't care. I don't need any reason for being a football fan other than "I enjoy it". Thing is I know a lot of libertarians who think that it's somehow wrong to enjoy something that doesn't have some "logical" value. E.g., if you don't benefit physically from something, you shouldn't enjoy it. I'm "stupid" because I get into the strategy of moving a leather ball from one end of a field to another to a certain goal. Then they go and spend hundreds of hours per week learning the strategy of moving a bunch of pixels around on a screen to a certain goal.  :?

Ah I see, this is pretty much where I'm coming from too.  I never understood the we/us thing either.

Bunch of millionaires bumping bellies on a big field. Arcane rules that make no sense. I have better things to do.

Arcane rules?

Like chess, maybe?

I like chess a lot -- I was actually damn good at one point, but I'm rusty as hell now.  :(

I'm a fair-weather fan.  I followed the Dallas Cowboys back when they were good; cannot get interested at all when they suck.  Probably helped that I'm from Dallas.

I've not heard the argument that it's irrational.

Thread needs more red.

Wow, uncanny resemblance to one of the evil robots on that Terminator tv series.

And now it's time for Alex Libman to apologize to John Shaw...

This is not a "I was all wrong, you were all right" type of apology, but I do owe you an apology for taking some things too far.  I'm sorry.  Sometimes I'm too socially-retarded, even in online situations, to know when to stop.  Plus the drinking played a part.  I've been all-sober for a while now, and some things don't seem as funny as they did at the time.  The "your mother" post was something else - hope you didn't take it too seriously.  Clearly I'm very jealous of the things you're able to pull off in this community, including becoming a mod.  My anger is my problem.

Moving forward, I will definitely cut down on most of my stupid annoyances.

Well shit. Thank you. I missed the old Alex where he was goofy but kinda cool, with only occasional outbursts of obnoxious. (Everyone has those, including me.)

Hope he's back.

Hat tip to both of you for your cordiality.

Aye, nice.

Free Radio Forum / Re: "Ham" license?
« on: January 15, 2009, 01:02:19 AM »
I had to get one of these licenses several years ago as a pre-req to designing and building some radio transceivers in an undergrad lab -- did that, then never touched anything relevant to the license again.

Hrm, that probably isn't the most helpful reply, sorry :|

Photoshops / Re: Anybody can tell me

Good tip.  Here's another one: write out your business plan, goals, etc.  Nice and verbose, plenty of detail.  Then go to

http://translate.google.com/translate_t#

and paste it in.  Translate from English to Lithuanian to Japanese to Italian to Norwegian to Ukrainian to German to Spanish to Dutch to Chinese and finally back to English again.  Really helps to clarify everything.

Oh dammit I just realized generickbusin already did that.  Sorry to be redundant.

It's a magazine clip, sweetie.

FTFY

Thank you for correcting that. And loading thirty of them is hard to you???

I used to load 10 of them in about 20 minutes. I could tell you some speed tricks, even if you are doing it by hand and not using a speedloader.

I said it hurt my thumb.  I didn't say it was hard.  And no, I'm not using a speedloader.

Loading thirty of these over four hours is hurty to the thumb.
