Thanks. Not remembering has been annoying me hours.

There used to be an advertiser (or may still be, I don't know) that had a product that would record everything in your car, in front, inside, etc, along with GPS information. I'm trying to remember what it is because a friend of mine wants to get one, but for the life of me I can't remember the name or the website. I'm assuming someone here will remember so if you do please let me know. Thanks.

The Polling Pit / Re: What blogs/news sites do you frequent?
« on: December 29, 2010, 11:05:34 PM »
I would really love it if this forum was busy. Unfortunately that is just not the case.  The only other forums I've really ran into are the FSP forum and Free Keene. Neither of which apply to me as a lonely Iowa liberty lover. I would love any suggestions for forums as well!

The Polling Pit / What blogs/news sites do you frequent?
« on: December 29, 2010, 10:43:24 PM »
I'm trying to get suggestions for blogs, new sites, podcasts, or anything of interest to a liberty minded person to stick in my feed reader. I'm lazy, and what I can't find on the Libertarian sub reddit I tend to just not notice.

So what would you suggest I stick in my feed reader? I don't care if it's your friend Dave's blog that he only updates once a month, or a big time website that updates their feeds every 10 minutes. I want content that doesn't suck to keep my brain fed and entertained.

EDIT: Woops, I put this in the wrong forum. Mods feel free to move it where you see fit or just nuke it.

The Show / Re: Accusations against Hostgator, don't panic, but be aware

Secrecy is the name of the game in the web hosting industry. As someone who works in web hosting I can assure you that you would be amazed at the things that happen with no one ever finding out. Entire databases of customer information (including CC) being stolen, every password on a large bank of servers being compromised, etc. This stuff happens more often than you would like to think, and to pretty much all the major players. Secrecy is so large that if a hack happens that costs the company many many thousands of dollars they will still not report it to the FBI in fear of the information being leaked via FOIA request. In some cases they will hunt down the perpetrator and offer them either free hosting for life to be quiet, or on the rare occasion a job.

Occasionally I meet up with a bunch of other nerds that work mostly in hosting, and we swap horror stories from work. It really is widespread and isn't going to change because if a company releases info about their security shortcomings to the public they will lose their customers and go out of business.

General / Re: Time to vote!
« on: December 04, 2010, 02:31:51 PM »
I intend to vote every day but I tend to forget things like this. If you're similar then you can do like I did and set an email alert in your google calendar, or whatever calendar you have, or use an online reminder service that will email you once a day until the 15th to remind you.

I'm sure if I had to rely on myself to do it I would only actually vote a few times. When I get a link emailed to me with a reminder then all I have to do is click.

General / So what's up with this Teach English Online thing?
« on: December 02, 2010, 08:14:36 AM »
I heard the promo on the show on Sunday about the "Teach English Online" ebook at http://english.freetalklive.com. The idea is pretty interesting to me, but the website itself looks like a cookie cutter edition of your average "Buy my ebook and get uber mega rich, and if you buy it right now you'll save 50%!!" type of website I see all too often. The only thing it was lacking was the "Are you sure you want to leave this page" popup when I exited the page.

I'm wondering if anyone related to FTL/LRN really knows anything about this, or if it was just posted because of the 50% of profit from Clickbank? I know there is FTL branding and stuff about Liberty on the page, but any right minded person trying to sell their ebook online would whip that page up specifically for a popular radio show that is advertising for him.

I really like the idea, but am kind of weary when paying $30 for an ebook that claims it will make me money sitting at home. I have an interest specifically in teaching ESL abroad and think this would be a great way to get some money up before traveling for while.

I also noticed this on the affiliate website

If you have any special requests, such as color, size, font or design, don't hesitate to contact me, and I will make a special banner just for your website at no cost.

So if you, or anyone you know, knows anything about this I would definitely appreciate any comments.

For those that don't have a TV the first 3 episodes of season 3 are available on Hulu. They will start posting further episodes each week beginning December 6th.

General / Re: Boycott Amazon?
« on: December 02, 2010, 03:07:59 AM »
From what I've read wikileaks moved the data to Amazon because they were under constant DDoS and other attacks from "unknown sources". I'm wondering if the first idea to shut down the hosting was from a security aspect, which kindled (no pun intended) Amazon to go along with what the Government was telling them to do.

It sounds a lot better (to the masses) from a business standpoint to say that you are taking a server down for legal, patriotic, etc, reasons than it does to take a site down because it is a security risk to one of the largest data holders in the entire world.

I'm sure it's just them following what they were "asked" to do, but there could be other factors here.

Okay, I'll bite.  How did he store the "liquid" at -40C?  Was it 5w motor oil?

This I am unsure of. I recall him saying something about trying to make a small metal cylinder that could maintain that temperature. I was pretty stoned when he told me about it and it was a few years ago. The kid is an electrical engineering whiz, so the things he hacks up usually don't surprise me. If I recall correct he abandoned the project and started messing with variants of 2CE instead.

I never had all that much interest in those fake versions of weed. I have however always been interested by the idea of CP 55,940 which to my knowledge is still in a legal grey area. If you're unfamiliar with it, Pfizer created it in the 70s and then abandoned it. From what I remember it is a close cousin to THA and has been reported to have affects up to 45 times stronger than THC. I had a friend who was looking in to making drinks that held the liquid, but he said he only got the maximum potency to maintain if he stored the liquid at maintained -40C.

I don't have any experience with it, but it has always seemed interesting to me.
