I wouldn't be surprised if all the open carry protests do the same thing to gun laws in NH. Most people in NH don't realize open carry is legal. The open carry events just remind some people that "there should be a law".

In Arizona, Open Carry does no such thing. Everyone is used to it, and no one cares. The cops will not be called, and if they are, they will not come, because the caller will be reminded that it is legal, and no crime is being committed. The most you'll ever get from a cop is a question about what sort of gun you have, which is out of curiosity and enthusiasm for firearms. The same will come from the serves and clerks with whom you deal, again, if they say anything at all. I have been sitting in a restaurant with a pistol on my hip when cops enter, and they took notice, and moved on, not saying a word. When New Hampshire-ites are similarly accustomed to the presence of completely legal openly carried firearms, a similar status quo will prevail.

This Christopher guy is, IMHO, a horrible marketer/designer/web developer. I've been in that business for years, and I rarely see stuff as amateurish and cluttered that isn't done at home by beginners who have no artistic skills and very little experience (which he very well could be). Most of the sites listed in his portfolio are actually just more of his own websites, built in the EXACT SAME TEMPLATE. The rest just 404. It all looks slapdash, just barely adequate for a cover story, as if put together by the junior IT guy at the state police office.

However, if the guy was smoking pot, that counts toward his non-fed-ness. They are really not allowed to use drugs while undercover. I have read several books by feds, undercover state and local cops, and ATF guys about going undercover, and they have to go to great lengths to avoid drug use (even infiltrating notorious drug abusers like the Mongols or Hells Angels), because it compromises the whole investigation and their testimony. I don't think they've changed the rules on that.

But hey, beyond that, this whole thing is just plain weird. WEIRD. I think John is right, speculation IS fun!

BTW, does this count as more "Drama in the Free State?"

I don't think she was actually serious. Or, at least, I really don't want to believe she was.

Use community banks or local credit unions. My employer has its own CU, which I'd use except its hours suck and it has one location, the lobby of our office. I will probably open an account with them eventually, especially if I take out an auto or home loan (the ONLY reasons to go into debt) but not for my regular banking. For that, I am about to leave (as soon as the CU's nearby location which is under construction opens its doors, I'm there) a large retail bank that has built its business on fucking me and the other customers over (I once had the branch manager hang up on me 30 straight times -I am persistent- and finally threaten to call the police and charge me with harassment after I wouldn't stop calling because they reordered transactions from largest to smallest, instead of charging them in order, which would have resulted in only 1 $38 charge, not 7, at a total cost of $266) for a larger -but still local- CU.

Even Wells Fargo, another big retail bank has what they call "Direct Deposit Advance," which is a cheaper alternative to the Payday Lender, and all you have to have to qualify is at least one previous direct deposit, and you can borrow up to $500 against your next check at the rate of $2 or $3 per $100 borrowed. That's helluva deal versus my banks $12 per overdraft transaction, against a credit line they charge me 17.5% APR on already. Or, if that's maxed out (which at $12 a pop on top of the overdrafts happens fast) $38 each!!! Paying $38 for a $1.73 makes me want to destroy things. But the worst is, when they do it when it isn't even my fault. Compass, my horrid bank, charged me for a PayPal error, a double charge (within 3.5 seconds of ythe original legitimate charge) that they ADMITTED was in error (don't even get me started on PayPal, whose business model relies on holding our money and being as slow as possible to execute any transaction, because they earn ALL their money on residual micro interest payments) and the seller of the item attempted to refund to me immediately. I was on the phone everyday for a week, and my bank acted like they were doing me a huge favor and being all magnanimous in refunding these bullshit fees that weren't my fault, as if they should have just told me to sue PayPal, like, HELLO, who the fuck is YOUR customer!?! Then, when it happened AGAIN (the aforementioned 7 overdraft fees) because an automated bill payment was processed a day early, due to the Veteran's Day bank holiday, a day I had to WORK, they refused to fix it and told me to sue the creditor! Then, when it happened AGAIN, because I switched insurers, and my old insurer billed me an entire premium payment instead of the $25 cancellation fee, it required multiple phone calls for over a week to rectify, and the ONLY saving grace was that it was a VISA debit, not a EFT or check, so that I could avail myself of the VISA dispute resolution system.

See? These people build their business on fucking over their customers, and yet local banks and CU's will extend micro-loans, short terms credit, direct deposit advances, and more, all while charging less in fees and interest and offering better return on your investments, which are all local anyway. They loan your deposits to your neighbors, not Goldman Sachs, and they have the same FDIC insurance coverage as the big boys.

So, when it comes to banking... GO LOCAL!!!

Maybe that wasn't the right term, how about overrated?

Hehe, go for a long time without them and they won't be as overrated. :P

Hell, try being MARRIED and they won't seem overrated.

Funny, because it's so true. Fortunately, I'm marrying (my 2nd try) someone who has an even greater sex drive than me!

Good.

You asked for the last time it was -25 in Keene, and you got it. You're not waiting for anything. You're a Rubber-dumbass Man.

MacFall, you're 100% WRONG. A Vitamin D3 pill is completely ready for use by your body, no sunlight needed.

I had to come back several consecutive weekends, and I smuggled in everything from items very valuable for trading purposes, like new, clean Tommy Hilfiger underpants, to my own prescription meds ('cause the jail nurses were incompetent and willfully negligent in providing timely care). They don't search the quiet, basically cooperative white guys who just want to get it over with as thoroughly as they do angry drunken Indians making death threats. At least, in my experience.

No, any old vitamin D pill will not do. It has to be D3. And again, you seem pathologically incapable of understanding that that was NOT THE FUCKING POINT of this thread. That you keep trying to pretend you have something relevant to say is just embarrassing. Stop it.

1) It has D2, so it's almost useless.

2) Yeah, I was exaggerating, who fucking cares? I don't live there, I have no idea how cold it gets, accuracy wasn't the point. I said already whether it's -25° or +25°, no one goes outside half naked in winter, not even here in sunny Arizona. That's what's required for natural vitamin D manufacture in your skin.

3) OK. A few bathing suited minutes outside, one day in the middle winter, does not a sufficient winter-long supply of vitamin D make.

Finally, NOT A SINGLE ONE of your points is relevant to the thread. Go back and read the first post. I started this thread because the 3 hosts were talking about getting vitamin D in winter, and while they went off in various tangential directions, they all failed to mention that the natural mechanism for your body to produce it requires exposing a significant portion of your naked flesh to direct sunlight, which is largely unavailable in northern climates during the winter, for various reasons, only some of which they covered. I was annoyed that they failed to mention that most important point, especially because Ian acted like the sun just being out, whether he was exposed to it or not, was sufficient. It isn't.

Milk, supplements, sun lamps, none of them are actually relevant here. I wasn't talking about the alternatives. I was talking about the conversation they were having on that particular show, wherein they failed to recognize the natural mechanism which makes vitamin D in your body, and why most people get deficient in winter time.

They did indeed to those trials, at some of India's better medical research universities. You can read them for yourself, they are listed on the site and can be Googled. Don't laugh, India's standard of medical care is very high, a lot of research science gets farmed out to them.
