General / What is a woman's role today?
« on: December 28, 2009, 05:34:28 PM »
I was talking with my wife about this very topic about a month ago and I found this  ( http://artofmanliness.com/2009/12/20/what-can-manly-men-expect-of-women/ ) posting today that really summed up the point I was trying to make.

I'm interested in people's thoughts.

Quote
1939 Marital Rating Scale:

After having a good laugh, what Kate and I both noticed after reading through these charts was that while we could imagine a modern day woman expecting her husband to live up to most of the standards on the Husband’s Chart, if a man expected a woman to adhere to the Wife’s Chart, he’d probably be met with the look of death.

...

But these days a new double standard has emerged where it’s okay to celebrate men manning up, but telling women they need to recover some of their femininity is offensive. To wit:

A woman telling a man to stop looking like a slob and dress up. Awesome!

A man telling a woman to stop looking like a slob and take care of herself. Sexist!

Saying that men should stop hooking up with women. Awesome!

Saying that women should stop sleeping around. Sexist!

Saying that men should get off the couch and go to work. Awesome!

Saying that a woman should be nurturing with kids. Sexist!

Saying that men should take the initiative in relationships. Awesome!

Saying that a woman should let the man lead (ever!). Sexist!

General / Were you hit in the head as a kid?
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:31:30 PM »
I was quite a few times. I've been hit by the following.

bat
air born brick (stitches required)
knuckle sandwich
swing set (stitches required)
baseball
kung-fu foot

Post what you have been hit with, or not. But be prepared, you may be asked to tell the story.

General / Getting old.
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:16:54 PM »
I've been an athlete for years, but just recently whenever I would go running I would get some nasty pains in my right knee after the run. The last time I ran I went to the beach and saw that my right foot points outward like a duck, while the left foot is completely straight. I went to a physical therapist and turns out I have a rotated tibia! Who knew? He says that the problem likely has been getting worse due to intense training & age and that I would have eventually needed surgery if I would have tried to ignore it.  So now I'm going twice a week to therapy to get the leg straightened out and line it up to my knee joint.

My reason for posting this is because I'm taking this as the first sign that I'm getting old, and my body can't take ALL of the punishment I give it. I'm wondering if any of you older geezers had a similar moment in life.

General / Travel to Paris and Barcelona
« on: July 07, 2009, 02:41:16 PM »
What's up guys and gals!

I've been lurking in the EB thread but I haven't posted here is a while. A lot has been going on lately. Anyway, I'm going to be taking a trip to Paris and Barcelona in about 2 weeks and I was wondering if you all had any suggested places to visit. The wife and I got a travel book but it is funner to read your comments.

Thanks in advance.

The Polling Pit / How much TV do you watch in a day?
« on: December 10, 2008, 04:53:49 PM »
I used to watch about 3-4 hours a day up until 2 years ago but now I'm down to 15 min in the morning just to get the weather.

I'm much happier now than I was before.

But I really want to STARE!! :x

General / Youth outreach
« on: October 22, 2008, 08:25:43 PM »
To my surprise, a co-worker (real deal communist) of mine has asked me to give a presentation about liberty at his next youth outreach meeting. What is weird is that he understands, and agrees with the NAP, so we get along for the most part. (I tell him that he can voluntarily live in his commune and I'll live in the real world.)

The topics that usually get presented in these meetings are focused on getting more Hispanic young people interested in ancient cultures, and becoming active in their community. In my city, we have a HUGE gang problem and getting these kids interested in anything that focuses their energy in a positive manor is a good thing.

I'm pretty good a giving presentations in general but I'm a little lost on finding good material (visuals, handouts) that I can present. Other than the world's smallest political quiz.

I’m not sure if I should focus more on the philosophy of liberty or if I should try to find issues that affect youth personally.  I’m only going to have about 10-15 min.

Anyhow, I was wondering if you guys had done any sort of outreach like this with high school aged people, and if you had any pointers.

Thanks for your help.

The Polling Pit / The National Anthem
« on: September 19, 2008, 04:02:34 PM »
I'm a sports fan and I go to a lot of live events. Of course, they always play the national anthem. I always feel weird about standing for it. While they play the song I think of all the blind nationalism that en flicks people into thinking that no matter what the U.S. does they must always be proud of their country. Like many on the boards I'm not proud of what the U.S. has done both domestically and abroad. So why should I stand for it?

In a way I kind of feel like it is along the same lines as not standing for a judge.

I was wondering what you guys do and how you feel when they play the national anthem.

General / Liberty T-shirts
« on: June 14, 2008, 02:10:32 PM »
I'm looking for some ideas for iron on T-shirts with pro liberty messages on them. I've looked at some online but I didn't really like them nor do I want to pay for them. I figure you all will have better ideas anyway. Let me know what you think.

The Polling Pit / College Football
« on: August 30, 2007, 02:09:27 AM »
I know this is political type board, however I was wondering how many of you all follow the mind numbing, young brain scrambling, screw yer knees up so you can't walk when your old sport of college football. The season starts this Saturday and I'm getting pumped! My Bears need to get past that nasty militia of Tennessee of Volunteers in order to be considered a legitimate contender.

Anyone else out there that is looking forward to this season?
