General / Tax Court on Monday (2010-03-22)
« on: March 13, 2010, 12:43:48 PM »
Hi folks. I'm about to attend a Tax Court trial which will very likely destroy (among other things) my ability to move, and would accordingly like to make the event worthwhile. Any constructive criticism on this planned subversive announcement for it would be greatly appreciated.

What happens to slaves caught fleeing the plantation?

Those who don't already know the answer can probably guess.

Before filing with the IRS a dreaded Form 1040 for 2006, I committed the unforgivable sin of attempting to comprehend it. This effort led me deep into the text and history of both tax legislation and court opinions, and I became convinced that the scope of taxation is far more limited—at least on paper—than those who collect the proceeds would have you believe. It was fascinating, but I encourage anyone considering similar research to keep it purely academic. Trying to apply this knowledge on a tax return, as I did, will merely confirm that the privileged people doing business as government need not apply rules and restrictions to each other, only to their perceived subjects (read: all the rest of us).

The remarkably apathetic IRS agents managed to plod through two years, 15 letters, and a phony hearing without ever answering a single question or making any point of substance (although they did see fit to issue a $5000 penalty). I requested a trial to reverse the penalty, but the most likely result is more of the same, except that judges wear costumes while they ignore people.

Anyone interested in witnessing the whipping firsthand is invited to visit Room 1031 of the Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit at 231 W. Lafayette Blvd around 10:00 AM on Monday, March 22. But as much as I'd like this on YouTube, be forewarned that your masters prohibit recording equipment to common folk at the venue's “public” trials—so don't bring anything you aren't prepared to lose and/or be jailed over.

Great praise to you, unknown prankster.

I've been catching up on FTL, and just got through a call on Thursday from "Coily". Bravo, Denis. Bravo.

Funny, I just heard that caller ~2 hours ago while I was on the can.
I love praise but can't take credit for this one. I am not coily.
At first I was hoping "coily" was a reference to a kickass Ozric Tentacles song.

And Ozric Tentacles are definitely On Topic for this thread

Those of you who, like me, don't have much time to visit here but are still interested in staying current (and can't stand the included unread posts functionality) might be interested in this feed.  It is an application of the Yahoo Pipe I just made for aggregating replies and new posts from SMF installations.

The Rubber Room - Not Safe for Work / Niggers on-air
« on: October 27, 2008, 12:16:55 AM »
So I was listening to Thursday's show, and noticed an abundance of "n-word" expressions.  There's an explicit policy of dumping callers who utter obscenity (and possibly also indecency) as defined by the FCC, for fear of broadcasters dropping the show.  Is "nigger" also against FTL rules?  If so, is it because Ian considers it profane or because his sensitive intellect cannot abide that combination of syllables?  And if it's allowed, then what explains all the pussyfooting?

Edit: changed to a less shitty title.

Edit: Since I'm not likely to get any more answers, I might as well restore the integrity of this thread.
