Sounds like I can just pop this in my linux server and i'll be up and running.  I'm still new to all of this though.  Anybody heard of these things?

General / Re: Ron Paul on 2012 - "I don't think that's likely"
« on: July 21, 2009, 09:55:55 AM »

I don't think that would fly too well with the American people.  I think it's highly more probable for Rand Paul to Obama the next election, and I admit that's pretty slim.

It worked for W.

Thought you guys might enjoy this e-mail conversation.  I know it's only $6 but it's the principle of the matter:

Hi Mr. Sancho,

My name is Geoff Scott and I'm the Regional Representative for your county for the Libertarian Party of Florida.  I am trying to get some information together for the region and wanted to ask if you could send me the list of voters registered with the Libertarian Party in your county.

Thank you very much for your time,

Geoff,

Please remit a data request form to our office.  The data is exported as a comma delimited text file.  The cost of the disc is $3.00 and the cost of shipping is $3.00.  The request form can be acquired at the following link:

http://www.leonvotes.org/PDFForms/200901DataRequest.pdf
If you need further assistance please feel free to contact our office and we will be more than happy to be of assistance.

Good day,

Nicholas Martinez

Supervisor of Elections Office
Leon County, Florida

Hi Nicholas,

I don't need any physical media versions of the file.  If you could just e-mail me the comma delimited text file, that would be perfect.

thanks a lot,

Geoff

Geoff,

It is office policy that the file be burned to disc and either picked-up in office or mailed to the requestor.

What is the basis for this policy?  I've contacted 18 other counties in the state of Florida this week and nobody has had a problem e-mailing me the file.  From what I understand under Florida sunshine laws, voter lists along with most files on government computers are considered public property

Every office sets its own policy.  This data is publicly available, true, but the mechanism for delivery is not specified in statute.  We provide this service on disc only to mitigate potential data theft during transmission.  This is a safeguard to our voter as the file contains a breadth of personal information.

Apparently, the data is not publicly available.  Since I happen to not have the money to be able to pay for the information, I guess I don't have the privilege to access this privately available information.  As I work in IT for a living, I can assure you that sending a supposedly publicly available text file through an e-mail is in no way threatened by data theft.  Unless of course, you are referring to theft of the money that the office would lose if somebody happens to be listening on one of our ports and receives the file themselves without having to pay the $3.00 for the file.

I dont consider the silver I buy as an investment really.  More like protecting my assets as much as I can while the armed mob that "runs" this country fucks everything up around me.

It was a little entertaining.  The story about the charter tree was pretty good.  I still don't think it was worth $7.00 though.  I think the site would be better if it were a free download with a donation button.  If that were the case, I would have graciously donated 3 or 4 dollars for it (much like I do for free open-source software).

I went ahead and got the book and I'm not too imperest.  Not really sure what I was expecting though.  But a guy telling me to put my cash inside a shoe or in an old pringles can is deffinately not worth th $7.00
