Apparently the "copyright" holder monitors the bittorrent file in question. They record all the "peers" downloading the file and send out warnings to the ISP's. The ISP's then turn around and send out warning letters. (or at least as far as I know)
Anyways, I did call them up to see what the letter was for and they told me what I downloaded that had attracted a complaint from some outside source (obviously the copyright holder).
I then asked them how many warnings should I start worrying. They told me to not get any more than 4. Up till then I'll be fine.
Yes, this has pretty much scared me out of downloading. I definitely don't want to get a 4th warning.
I never received these "warnings" with Brighthouse. Now that I am with Verizon, I am getting them.
According to a recent releasing of 1000 ip's in the download of "Hurt Locker" (a post I found on DIGG), of all the ISP's that appeared on the list, Brighthouse (TimeWarner) was NOT one of them. Noted!

Actually, I don't believe the above is true either. Being I also have received these warnings, I decided to do what you mentioned. I kept downloading and pretty much eliminated my uploading, or at least severely decreased it. Downloaded a new movie in 720p and 3 days later got a call. My third warning!

Although I had said the Nature Bee ad is annoying too, I never said anything about removing them. I totally understand the point of ads and I know ads are what keep the show alive. Luckily for me, I found this nifty little key in my media player called "fast forward 10 sec". Hit that a few times and my annoyance is gone!

I just watched both of these movies too. Actually, I watched the religion part a couple weeks ago several times. However, I just finished the rest of both today.
This documentary paints a depressing future for sure. And while it does pretty much claim that the only hope we have for a good future is communism. It just doesn't come out right and say it. However I totally disagree with that.
What scares me is the idea of the huge corporations and / or the banks running everything. The part of how the banks control when / how depressions occur is freaking scary. Today maybe prosperous, but tomorrow maybe completely shit!
Scary stuff.
