General / REAL ID victory possible in New Hampshire if we help!

Today's Downsizer-Dispatch . . .

URGENT ACTION NEEDED URGENTLY! (did we mention that this is urgent?):

The New Hampshire House has voted to NOT comply with the REAL ID Act! The governor has said he will sign this non-compliance bill if it comes to his desk! The matter now rests in the hands of the New Hampshire Senate -- a mere 24 people! If New Hampshire rejects the REAL ID program it could pave the way for other states to do the same. And the pressure could grow for Congress to repeal the REAL ID Act!

The New Hampshire Senate is set to vote tomorrow!

What happens in New Hampshire tomorrow affects not only the people in that state, but potentially all of us. It could mark the beginning of the end for the REAL ID Act. So we're going to do something a little different. Normally all of our efforts are aimed at the U.S. Congress. But now we want you to contact the New Hampshire Senate. We want you to encourage them NOT to comply with the REAL ID Act!

Non-New Hampshire residents -- people from Congress -- have already gone to New Hampshire to urge them to submit to REAL ID, so we can do the same for the opposite purpose. Tell the New Hampshire Senators they can lead the nation, and fire a "shot heard around the country," by being the first to reject REAL ID. Tell them you want the same to happen in your own state, and that this is more likely if New Hampshire takes the first heroic stand and lives true to its motto: "Live free or die!"

Here's how to do it . . .

New Hampshire has a true citizens' legislature, so there are no phone numbers to call. But there are email addresses you can use. But there's a problem . . .

Time to send some emails! See the page for more info.

Thanks guys! It is really appreciated. Putting them on army posters is a great idea! :D

Keene is nice, but it seemed like there is a city-wide smoking ban. When I visited last month, a group of us went to the Chicago-style restaurant called Uno's(?) and I couldn't smoke inside. WTF. Also, Keene seems pretty liberal despite all of the freestaters in the area.

Sounds like a good target to me.

Russell and Kat (and the Keene Free Press) are my primary motivation for choosing Keene as the most likely spot I'll be moving to for the F.S.P. It seems to be where all the good stuff is happening. :D

I think Keene will be the hub of Liberty, eventually.

Perhaps we can even infiltrate the university, and have Keene State University go totally private, and free market.

And finally get one that stops pushing socialist agendas? Wow, how fast can I sign up for that?!  :D

Yep its true - something you can do to promote liberty. Tranted it is liberty for only hundreds of people but it does make the government look like monsters as well; that also promotes liberty.

I created a flier for the torture protest: http://tortureprotest.org/multimedia/protest_flier.pdf

I'm starting to hang it around my town, how about hanging it around yours? The fact that it says Portland, Oregon on it should raise some eyebrows! My plan is to keep doing these things as long as funds are available and people are still being mistreated. I have no idea how far it'll go but I really like to aim high so who knows.

If you can think of something that would make it better let me know please; I'm always accepting feedback.

Is this picture one of a member? If so that is really well done. Way to go.
Hmmm maybe I misunderstood but I think you aren't quite sure who that is. That is Ian, the fearless captain of this ship of liberty.

How is a dorm room different from an apartment?  Then again a locker at work gets more legal protections than a locker at high school which is why I am asking.  I'll get a lawyer to clear it up.

Every apartment rental contract I've ever signed stipulated exactly when the landlord was able to enter the unit; in most cases it was with advanced warning unless in the case of an emergency. I would guess that a dorm room is identical in implementation, except it has specific sections that say they can search your room for drugs and contraband. Lockers I dunno about - if you put a lock on someone else's property, are they allowed to cut your lock off their property? I would guess so, but I don't know of any actual legal rulings in this matter.

1.  How the courts view drug sweeps in college dorms
2.  How do search and seizure laws apply to a private college campus police and also security guards.

Can anyone think of anymore issues that isn't covered in the video that I should probably address?

Here are some thoughts. Number 2 first: what did you agree to? You are staying on someone else's property and you are following their rules. Certainly you signed some paperwork when you went into the dorm? I bet there is a section that details exactly how and when you can be searched and I bet its not pretty. Again, it all depends on what you agreed to.

Number 1: see explanation for number 2 ;-)

In other news, have any of you guys ever done any "phreaking" or other telcom related EE projects? I just thought of a cool idea for OTL (over-the-line) telephone signal crypto that would be simple enough to be ignored if not used all the time.

Got any details? Sounds very interesting....

Ha the 'cuve'... :D I'm originally from socal. I'm in Tacoma for college though at the moment.

Actually I'm in Camas but you've probably never heard of that. Go east from Vancouver one town and you've got us. So Cal eh? Me too! I spent most of my time in Lancaster (not far from Edward's Air Force Base) but I've also lived in Los Angeles proper (Manchester, right next to LAX) and in Pasadena. Which part of So Cal are you from?

OK, apology accepted, thanks for offering it. BTW, I just heared that you are from WA. Where abouts? I am too.

I'm down in Vancouver. I used to think Oregon was full of communists... then I realized Washington is just as bad :P

I used to live in Seattle area a few years ago. I was in Bellevue, right next to the Microsoft campus, and then moved to Greenlake. Seattle has the best summers I've ever seen anywhere, period. Where are you from?

OK. Thanks for the compliments(?).

I'm really sorry I jumped on you like that; it was rude and uncalled for. Chock it up to internetitis? I try not to be an asshole, really, believe it or not.  :?

Apparently you lost the fight for paragraphs, eh?

I concur - I tried to read your post but its too painful. Can you reformat it?

No, I'm just asking if anyone's had experience with it. Since they don't exactly adversise this, chances are there's a bunch of on-hold/transfering between depts time, and if I can get through it a bit faster it's just that much better. What service do you use, triddle?

I don't; one of the benefits of being a student and living at home is that I don't have to worry about paying bills. The down side is that now that I've been educated about how crummy our government is, I find that I have a moral obligation to fight the taxes, so in a few years I'll be in exactly the same boat you are now.

I really do wish you good luck.
