General / What happened to Julia?
« on: August 11, 2011, 07:54:10 PM »
I haven't tuned into FTL in a while and I was wondering what happened to Julia? Did Ian and her break up? What's the story behind it? Is she upset Ian's gone to jail :o

The she talk live episode was surprisingly good, I say get any one of those girls on more regularly. Guys like girls and if they hear girls making pro-liberty arguments on the radio they're likely to want to understand those arguments more to have a chance with them. Not consciously but unconsciously. My opinion only.

Okay, I have just watched Ian's recent day in court videos and I figured I'd make a post in this thread.

For some context: I never wear suits or ties in day to day life. I like to dress reasonably but am pretty lazy. I think everybody has the right to be as slobbish as they want, and nobody should change "who they are" because of societal norms.

That said, if you keep dressing in shorts and tshirts at occasions like this the videos will not be nearly as powerful to watch for people who are on the fence about the movement. By dressing this way you make it SO EASY for people who are undecided to dismiss you as a kook or stoner. This isn't what I believe, but it's just a fact of reality.

I'm not even saying you should wear a suit and tie, but how about some dark jeans and a shirt at least?

It doesn't matter if Burke and his thugs deliver the exact same verdict, what matters is how bad THEY look to outsiders who see the video. And trust me, making these changes will change people's perceptions.

My $0.02

Hey, I'm responsible for the ad.

When I made it I worried a bit that people might think it was in poor taste, but it certainly wasn't to be taken seriously.

More a metaphor "we're targeting the bureaucrats"... and something to grab attention so people would click.

Nothing in the blog is remotely pro violence.

That said I'll knock something else up more appopriate to the FTL message!

General / Re: Your drug habits in a world without drug laws.

If the freedom of the free-market allowed some entrepreneurial drug manufacturer to come up with a drug that gives you the high of ecstacy without the shitty come down, then I'd probably do that every other big night out.

Otherwise, nothing would change. I'd occasionally do weed, occasionally do a line or two of coke, and very occasionally, if it's a huge special occasion, do some ecstacy or MDMA.

It'd be awesome being able to get safe product in exact quantities though!

General / Government is a Scam
« on: March 10, 2010, 01:24:24 AM »
I don't know what it's like in the states, but here in the UK the government is constantly running retarded adverts on the radio giving inane common sense advice like "don't be scammed", "Eat healthy food" and "Don't fall asleep while driving". They're all well produced and have probably cost millions and millions of pounds to produce. Anyway I made a parody of this especially fucking stupid one:

Feedback please!

The Show / Re: Gene The Christian Anarchist

I think Gene is the best caller on the show. He has a great understanding and intuition about philosophy.

Why don't you all have him as a guest sometime?

Sometimes it seems like you allow Scott The Bigot more air time than Gene. Why is that? You all seem to cut Gene short on air time when he brings up fundamental questions about what are liberty, property, ownership, morals, rights. Then you move on to pretty inane news topics.

I think this whole board, in addition to the show, could use more philosophy, less fluff.

Hi Gene!

The Show / Re: Mark regrets his tattoos
« on: January 18, 2010, 07:45:11 PM »
Wow. Guess I sparked a debate. Thanks to everyone for the responses!

Yeah, my neck wasn't the first place I had in mind, but that's where I visualise that design fitting the best, I might come up with something for my arm to have as a first though. Not sure. I'm also worried it might be a bit complicated for the size I want. We'll see.

I play poker professionally (hence spade + birds for freedom) so I don't have to worry about visible neck tattoos getting me in trouble with a boss or anything, but I'm not so naive as to think things might be different in the future, so it could be a legitimate concern, difficult as it would be to cover up.

I'm glad people like the design though, that's positive :)

Oh and I loved that tattoo commercial, awesome reverse psychology and extremely well produced!

Well I made this and am thinking of getting it on my neck with the birds ending up sort of up behind my ear, the whole thing would probably be about 4x4 inches

The Show / Mark regrets his tattoos
« on: January 11, 2010, 10:18:41 PM »
I heard on the show the other night that mark regrets the tattoos he has and thinks they are a bad decision.

I'm thinking of having my first tattoo soon and I'm interested in your reasoning mark. Especially as you're a little older and wiser now and probably know a bunch of stuff I don't know yet.

Thanks!
