Just finished reading The History of Western Philosophy by Bertrand Russel. Its a thick, comprehensive book. Totally not a weekend reader. Its harder to digest than a Russian novel.
That said, it had its moments. The book was dripping with Russel's condescension. It was very informative, and moderately thorough. Russel shows his biases pretty openly, and despite being a logician, some of his "insights" were kinda weak. It doesn't always stay on target either, and was largely written during WWII, which makes his views on capitalism, socialism, and fascism more interesting.
I don't know if I would recommend it. I guess its pretty good for an introduction to philosophy, but be forewarned, its not an easy read.
