o rly?

That's the demographic it's aimed at. Of course no one seemed to care for Harry Potter, so why would it stop anyone now?

Usually, in children's stories, half of the main characters don't die gruesome deaths. I'd loosely call the first two books children's stories. From there, it starts getting pretty dark and adult-oriented.

Now reading:

Watchmen by Alan Moore (half-way through)
The Archaic Revival by Terence McKenna (just started)
A Garden of Pomegranates: Skrying On The Tree of Life by Israel Regardie (just started)

I just started the second volume of Rothbard's Conceived in Liberty. He doesn't seem to care for Benjamin Franklin very much.

For Christmas, I got (among other things) Rothbard's The Ethics of Liberty.  Looking forward to reading it.

After I finish reading The Titan's Curse to the kids (one more chapter to go!), we'll be starting on Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book. I love his children's books. Gaiman writes for children like they're small people, and not babies in need of spoon feeding. Even with the books for younger children. (Not that this book is appropriate for toddlers. For that, you need something like Crazy Hair, Wolves in the Walls, or The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish.)

Quote
Product Description

Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy.

He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead.

There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy-an ancient Indigo Man beneath the hill, a gateway to a desert leading to an abandoned city of ghouls, the strange and terrible menace of the Sleer.

But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod's family. . . .

John Locke's Second Treatise of Government, Nietzsche's Thus Spake Zarathustra (again), and Stephen King's Just After Sunset (always liked his short stories).

Uh, yeah, no shit.

**SPOILERS FOR WATCHMEN, READ AT YOUR OWN FUCKING RISK**

But why did Jon kill him? Couldn't he have just erased that memory from his brain, or transported him to a different planet? I just think it was a shitty thing to do. JON FUCKING MURDERED RORSCHACH. There's no way around it...he murdered him, and they were supposed to be on the same team. The book left me pissed off more than anything. It was still a great story though.

Fuck Doctor Manhattan.

-***More Spoilers***-

Murdered? Rorschach basically asked him to kill him.

Yeah, because he knew that he was going to do it anyway.

I'd scream "DO IT!" too if I knew that I was about to get my ass blown apart by a fucking God. You can't escape that kind of thing.

a non fiction account of David Simons time spent with the Baltimore Police homicide squad. thoroughly interesting stuff.

The same David Simon who went on to make the fantastically brilliant 'The Wire'
