Just finished Boy's Life...fucking amazing story.

I have that, but I didn't read it yet.

I loved this passage from the book so much I had to quote it and put it on my Myspace profile:

Quote
"I was never afraid of my monsters. I controlled them. I slept with them in the dark, and they never stepped beyond their boundaries. My monsters had never asked to be born with bolts in their necks, scaly wings, blood hunger in their veins, or deformed faces from which beautiful girls shrank back in horror. My monsters were not evil; they were simply trying to survive in a tough old world. They reminded me of myself and my friends: ungainly, unlovely, beaten but not conquered. They were the outsiders searching for a place to belong in a cataclysm of villagers' torches, amulets, crucifixes, silver bullets, radiation bombs, air force jets, and flamethrowers. They were imperfect, and heroic in their suffering." - Cory Mackenson, Boy's Life

The ending is really great too, and the way everything comes together at the end is mindblowing.

I just read "Scorpion Down". It's a book about a US submarine that was sunk by the Soviets and covered up by the US government. My dad was a submariner and recommended it to me, and it actually read a bit more like a novel and less like a military history book.

Currently reading The Man in the High Castle. It's my first PKD novel; I'm halfway through and so far I'm a bit disappointed.

In addition to Ringworld, which is technically a listen, not a read, I'm re-reading Parliament of Whores. It's something I do every couple of years, usually late October or early November.

Has anyone on here read "Naked Lunch"? I've seen the movie and it was amazing. Disturbing, powerful and fucked with my head in ways few movies have been able.

I read that but haven't seen the movie. I liked it.. but better than that, and by the same author (William Burroughs, my hero) is Junkie (or Junky). Matter o' fact, now I'm gonna read that one again.

Currently Reading:

1. Bonk (The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex)
Brief history of the Scientific study of Sex. BTW, turns out females don't really cum. They piss themselves or do nothing at all besides the regular secretions.

2. Exposing the Real Che Guevara and the Useful Idiots who Idolize him

3. The World was going Our Way (about KGB battle for 3rd world countries)

Recommened:

INFIDEL - AWESOME book! Exposes Islam for what it truly is - not about an isolated case but about an entire culture encompassing a billion people living 900 years in the past. Truly an amazing woman, and hot as hell too!

I'm gonna finish up Creative Visualization and The Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy, then I think I'm going to read The Mystery of the Cathedrals.

I'm pretty sure the book doesn't say that.

I'm rereading one of my favorite books, The Ultimate History of Video Games, by Stephen L. Kent. It's a truly colorful history book, at least in the beginning when it's covering the early days of the industry. The later chapters are not quite as exciting but well worth a read.

That's not one of Heinlein's best. It's sort of slurry of escapism, and it gets weirder as it goes on. Worth reading once, though.

I'm currently reading Rothbard's Conceived in Liberty, Volume 1: The American Colonies in the Seventeenth Century

Rothbard was a damn fine historian as well as an economist. This stuff reads like a novel, but it contains historical gems of which academia at large seems completely unaware.
