Now we can debate the following hypothetical scenario:
If someone who is friendly and polite (and maybe an amplifier) were to ask Ian kindly if he could get a copy of the backup, would Ian do it willingly? Maybe if such a person were planning to launch and host a freetalklivearchive.com site at his own expense Ian would think it was a cool idea.
In the alternate reality which I spend a part of my time, folks sometimes politely communicate and ask for things from others. This may sound odd in this world, but you have to believe me on this. I have experienced situations in which I, myself, have asked what we call a "favor" and have had it performed for me. I'll illustrate in the dramatization that follows.
Jim: I just finished this great article in Sane Person Monthly about manners.
Sue: I just love good manners. Do you mind if I borrow that magazine so that I might read it.
Jim: Why certainly, Sue. Perhaps afterwards we can discuss it over tea.
I know that you all think I am mad for suggesting such a bizarre reality. In truth, sometimes I think I am just dreaming it all up. But admit it, there could possibly be a version of the universe in which people are civil and do not burst into narcissistic emotional tirades at every sign of misfortune.
