Best game I ever played was the first one I ever bought (for the Apple II): Seven Cities of Gold, by Electronic Arts. They went on to morph it into Age of Empires. But, I enjoyed the first better, despite the monotone color. EA was very cleaver in their use of virtual memory.
What a fun game... I liked "popping" the chief, and having a billion natives run into you...*pop! pop! pop! pop!...*
"Chief want gift! No trade!" "Oh yeah?" *pop!*
I could never get to "Viceroy", though.
Reminds me of another kick-tail edutainment game: The Oregon Trail. I would deliberately start out with only bullets and one yoke of oxen, wander along the trail a ways, then hunt until I had food up to 2000 pounds, then trade for everything else (including money).
