-
DraGOON
TF2
DDR crit, low grav servers
-
Actively playing: Battlefield Heroes.
D&D free online? I owned a D&D computer game once (temple of elemental evil) and played it for awhile but wasnt aware you can play online.

And what draGOON? that your char or is it a game?

Colonization!
I installed windows 95 in VMware just so I could play my old favorite game again. And it still rocks

I think the best game to date is the Sega Genesis version of Risk. I only have one Sega controller, and can't get another one from Wal Mart. Until they come up with a video game system that can trump the blast processing and speed of the Genesis, or one that has noticeably better graphics or sound, I'm not going to waste any money on a new one. Plus, it's not like there is Risk 2. Plus, I'm not paying any tax to the government for something as frivolous as the new Pac Man. I grow my own food and make my own cheese. I only eat tomatoes and cheese, and the cheese is more like moldy milk because I don't really understand how to make cheese. But I do have Risk for sega Genesis, one controller and up to five friends to play along in front of my big screen color tv, passing the controller like our government passes gay new laws everyday. Sometimes the only thing I can do to stay sane is play Risk or masturbate while thinking heterosexually, and I find myself doing that more and more often.
-
Uh... lol?
-
If I were playing the new games I have, which I am not, because of the dirty evil process of editing a movie 12-14 hours a day, it would be:
Brutal Legend
Borderlands
Torchlight
Dead Space
Champions Online
WOW
-
DDO, for the hell of it. Free is nice.
I've been playing a random assortment of 360 games as well, but not much in multiplayer. Not many of my friends have been around lately.
-
I have a WoW account, but I'm not playing it much these days. Kinda burnt out.
I'm fooling around with Sims 3, Machinarium (http://bbs.freetalklive.com/index.php?topic=31043.msg570425#msg570425), and got a copy of Pirates! a while back to play with just for old time's sake.

That is some funny shit.
Hearts of Iron 3. Taking a break til they come up with a decent patch.
-
I'm hopelessly, hopelessly, addicted to Rock Band 2 and The Beatles Rockband. Lately I've been trying to master singing and playing the guitar (at the same time). I'm also playing Conker: Live and Reloaded and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
-
Fallout 3 and Shadow of the Colossus
-
After seeing Shaw's post on Fallout 3 awhile back, I bought it and liked it. Bought the Mothership add on & me and my son have been zapping aliens a little bit lately. Not sure if I'll buy any other add ons for that.. unless someone here recommends one..
I'm a sucker for apocalypse/Mad Max stuff- so maybe I'll get Borderlands. Just don't have a lot of time to goof off with games.

Donkey Kong

yes that is the handle
the game is Team Fortress 2

I played some fallen earth and so far it sucks, looks like it should have been made about 5-10 years ago with its graphics, clunky controls and it seems to be like anarchy online with some FPS controls and it has a subscription to play it.
-
I have a WoW account, but I'm not playing it much these days. Kinda burnt out.
Same here on WoW, have had the account on hold for like 6 mos. or so now.
Currently Brutal Legend, Borderlands and Wet on the 360.
-
fallout 3 , second time around...i actually bought a used one, so i can take my time this go round..
-
Best game I ever played was the first one I ever bought (for the Apple II): Seven Cities of Gold, by Electronic Arts. They went on to morph it into Age of Empires. But, I enjoyed the first better, despite the monotone color. EA was very cleaver in their use of virtual memory.
-
WoW.. used to play it religiously. Have 5 80s, but now I just play it if I'm bored or listening to Liberty Conspiracy or FTL. It doesn't require much thought to play that game.

What a fun game... I liked "popping" the chief, and having a billion natives run into you...*pop! pop! pop! pop!...*
"Chief want gift! No trade!" "Oh yeah?" *pop!*
I could never get to "Viceroy", though.
Reminds me of another kick-tail edutainment game: The Oregon Trail. I would deliberately start out with only bullets and one yoke of oxen, wander along the trail a ways, then hunt until I had food up to 2000 pounds, then trade for everything else (including money).

Army Men RTS
-
Not playing anything currently, but once I get moved, I'm hooking up the 2600 and going to town.
-
I got Dragon Age on my birthday a couple of weeks ago and have been playing it as time allows. Really enjoying it so far.

I am so close to buying this...the opportunity cost of my buying "Dragon Age: Origins" is a set of D&D 4th ed core books. Would Dragon Age be worth more or less than a set of D&D books, in your opinion?

Pac-Man when I'm not geeking out on Frogger.

I too just found my old colonization game. Sid Mier games fucking rock

I liked "Pirates". But there was this Civil War game that I picked up for Windows 98 that I wish I could find again. It was awesome. You could re-fight classic battles of the Civil War. I had the CD in a laptop that was stolen some years back.
-
The new game for me is Empire XP, basically just Risk for PC. Nothing special by any means but it is a classic.
I love the Sid Mier games as well but they take too damn long to play!
WRT Colonization, I have the original, but they made a remake of it! The game mechanics are almost identical, but the graphics are VASTLY improved as are AI relations.
-
Tropico is on my "always at hand" list of games I play.
Tropico 3 is out, but I'm not buying it; the music sucks, the game adds things that don't make sense and seem to add nothing to gameplay, and the game still has no imports, so international trade is a picture of hard-core mercantilist philosophy:

http://cavalier973.blogtownhall.com/2008/04/13/the_mercantilist_bent_in_the_game_tropico_part_ii.thtml
Nevertheless, the first game is great fun, if you can find it anymore (get the mucho macho edition)

Oh gosh, I haven't played D&D in forever. If you've got 3rd edition books already, I would say to definitely go with Dragon Age instead....especially since once you've got a character going, we can compare notes on the storyline. Just don't choose a Dalish elf rogue. :)

I liked "Pirates".
I liked Pirates so much that I bought another copy on the cheap recently just to play through it again. Still remembered how to dance and how to battle another ship....that is such an awesome game.

Some tips for your companions gift giving:
Gold and Silver bars to the Crow assassin
Magical type items to Alistar
Written works to the pompus Circle of Magi lady
Jewelry to Morigan
Religious symbols to the Bard
Alcohol to the dwarf
Works of art to Sten
Never got to the companion that opens the Champion option. Bet he/she would want the food items. I believe it is possible to have a romantic relationship with each, except maybe Alistar if you played a male. Just don't do them all at once and be prepared for a loss in likability when you dump one to move to the next.
I'm starting over as a noble male human even through I do enjoy engaging in the in-game lesbo relationships. Fun fun fun.

Dragon Age: Origins and Sins of a Solar Empire
-
just finished fallout 3. awesome game, shitty ending. can't wait to play the broken steel add on.
-
Cool, thanks for the commentary....I'll have to come back and read it, as I'm on my first campaign and just going through Redcliffe now.
One of the best parts of Neverwinter Nights was getting a tiefling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiefling) to fall in love with me, so I'm really enjoying the relationship angle. :)
-
I love tower defense games. Lately I've been playing their Facebook port. It's actually pretty cool, thought it's bullshit the way they tried to monetize it (ie, PayPal them and they will give you more powerful towers, what kinda BS is that?)
That said, the more FB Friends that play, the more virtual coins I get, so....

Here's one of the floors of my current underground empire -

I'm currently posting a security squad around a dude who is in a "Strange Mood" and trying unsuccessfully to build a magical artifact in a craftsdwarf workshop. There is the distinct possibility that he will go on a berserk killing spree if he is not supplied promptly with turtle shells. *sigh*
If he goes off his nut, they'll taze him, bro.
I am also building a tower with windows made of gemstones for no reason other than to be horribly ostentatious and attract goblin attacks, only to be sliced to ribbons by a series of traps using razor sharp disks, ala Last Crusade.

The learning curve is steep, but it's frigging insane what you can do in the game. It actually keeps track of the condition of all the separate organs on each dwarfs body. Including the condition of each type of teeth - Molars, incisors, etc.
-
Um, I started playing and it loaded for 10 minutes and once it loaded a map finally I couldnt find any dwarfs. I got used to the controls a bit and looked up a tutorial...but still when I followed the tutorial...no dwarfs anywhere or wildlife of any kind :(

Push "R" and it gives you a list of your rooms. The only "Room" you have is your convoy wagon, so hitting "T" will take you right there.
R then T
I'd also recommend going to the wiki -

I love grand strategy games. Hearts of Iron 2 & 3, Victoria and Sins of a Solar Empire mostly.
Play alot of FPS, especially WW2 ones like Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, Battlefield 2 mods (Project Reality and Forgotten Hope). My friends always want to play Halo 3 when they come over, so I think I end up playing that the most even though it's not one of my favorite games.

I found most grand strategy space games to be pretty boring. I liked the large scale RTS gameplay of SoaSE better. I suppose that's strange because I also like Victoria which is a very complicated and somewhat dull strategy game.
Alpha Centuri was better.

A very important update:
An engraving of a dude standing all smug over a lady after ripping her finger off... Pertaining to an actual event in the fortress while they were practicing their wrestling skills.
Some dude saw it happen and decided to engrave it on the lady's wall whose finger got ripped off. He must hate her or something. He also engraved cockroaches on her wall, which she absolutely detests. She gets bummed every time she sleeps, so I dug her out a new room.
Also, Deferent Woman of Rage would make an excellent all lesbian metal band.
-

Really the only ones worth playing. HOI3 was a major disappointment. But 2 out of 3 ain't bad, Paradox still rocks. Wonder if they ever fixed all the issues with HOI3. Might look into it again if I had time. I played HOI2 with the Stoney Road mod and improved AI mod exclusively for like 5 years.

assassins creed 2, which has been much better than the first one which was crap.dragon age origins which I find a bit annoying - i liked oblivion better. i like the original age of empires which i have been playing again. I am trying to find a copy of silent hill3 for the playstation, i love that series, can't wait for heavy rain, red dead redemption - which looks awesome and alan wake, lots of good stuff on the ps3, may rent bioshock 2 - although i think a libertarian society would work and not break down into a city of vain people like it suggests, whatever.

I tried that. It was fun. I was addicted for a couple of days. Fortunately I was cured when I reached the level that never ends and I built perfect defenses that could stop everything. I actually just walked away and let the game play itself for 20 minutes. After that, I was cured.
-
I am sad to say I did the same things and was not cured. :(
It's addictive... but not as much as NetHack, which I no longer allow myself to play, except for the yearly tournament

I mostly play solitaire and Tower Defense flash games but recently I wanted to give my kids some less violent video game alternatives so for the PS3 I got them Flowers, Critter Crunch, and Little Big Planet.
Flowers and Critter Crunch you can buy online and then download. Flowers is a very cool game where you are a flower petal and you fly around using the PS3 motion detector and transform kinda dead areas into green, flowery areas. It is fun and different.
Critter crunch is an amusing, fast paced puzzle game and it's only $6 to download.
Little Big Planet is a game where the players can design their own puppet person and then run and jump around and get points, bonuses, and new puppet clothes. You can also create your own maps. My kids like it and I think they will play it for a while.
-
Most Tower Defense games are not violent at all. And I think they teach an intuitive sense of economics: my 5-year-old knows that it is better to save your money and invest in upgrades of your best towers, than to waste money on bombs which explode and then are gone.
Investing, baby.
-
I didn't mean to say Tower Defense games were violent. I was just saying I like to play them.
I was trying to say that my teenage son and almost teenage daughter like to play first person shooters like Halo and I wanted to try to find them some less violent alternatives. I don't tell them what games they can or can not play I just wanted to give them some less violent options. Especially my son who really likes the violent games like Gears or War.
-
What's wrong with violent video games again? I think I got my first violent video game at age 12, it was Wolfenstein 3D for 3DO. Great game, and you got to kill Nazi Zombies.
-

First time I played one of these games, that's pretty much dead-on the advice my two youngest children game me. I was tickled they'd figured it out... if only I could get them to apply that bit of wisdom to skipping candy & plastic crap purchases and saving up for the DSi they want so badly.
-

I don't think anything is wrong with violent video games per se. I am trying to act and think more peacefully so I am trying to lessen the amount of violent themed entertainment and sports that I watch.
Since I wanted to buy my kids some new video games I thought it would be a good idea to give them some games that aren't as violent to play. They can play whatever games they like, I just want to give them an alternative.

Metro 2033 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metro_2033) is good. It's one of those "rat maze" or "rails" games (where there looks to be interesting places to go, but you can't since there's an invisible barrier there).. but still good. Read some reviews where they say it's nothing like Stalker, but it's actually quite a bit like that game.
-
The free flash strategy game I'm playing lately:
http://apps.facebook.com/backyardmonsters/
Yes, it's a facebook game; no, it's not freakin' farmville or mafia wars.
Yes, the first week or so there is not much to do -- it's not a time-sink addictive-clicky game; it's a strategy game for people with lives.
I'm about 2 days from having the "initial player protection" come off, then I'll be able to kill and be killed, based on the defenses I've built up to that point.

I've been hooked on Team Fortress 2 lately.

What I find ironic is, despite all the complaining that D&D 4e was nothing more than an MMO (WoW) translated to pen-and-paper, there hasn't been a computer version of the game made, or even announced. There has been a good argument made that 4e is not a good system for a computer game to use, unless it's turn-based, because of all the fiddly short-term conditions (marking, spells that last only until the end of the next turn, etc.) that would make a real-time game unplayable.
So I am stuck still playing Neverwinter Nights.

There is Dungeons and dragons online. ( www.ddo.com ), but I don't think it has the same rule set, but since Warner bro's. bought Turbine they might just have the cash to make a good D&D MMO.
and on turn based MMO's; I believe Final fantasy 11 online uses a turn based fighting system, if they didn't do it that way it would be hard to play on consoles.

I've suspended my account more times than I can count, but can't say goodbye either. The world events always get me. Anarchy online is still around, I've played it some, got into it then the semester started. However it was really hard going from WOW's interface to AO's ancient one and the graphics are... well... also old. Right now I don't have a single paid MMO account active.
I did recently pick up the newest Metroid Prime, and it's been a lot of fun. Its the first grown up game I've really gotten to play on the Wii and I think they did a really good job using the controller to make it a totally different gaming experience from the kiddie games.

I just reinstalled the original NWN. I have it and both expansion packs, but by the time I would've gotten around to playing the expansions, I was playing online and then I got NWN 2. I'm thinking I might start playing through NWN and the expansions in my free time...meaning I'll probably give up half way through the original campaign because I have no free time :P

I loved that game....so much. It might well be my favorite video game ever.

I mostly play NWN on the War of the Rings server under the "team" tab. I get my tail handed to me everytime, but the challenge always draws me back. It's hard to play using my laptop, though, because the function keys don't work right.

Yeah, I've played on some random servers and generally don't have a good time. I used to play on The Vast, but they had server issues that drove me away and it wasn't very well populated near the end of my time there. They also used more "realistic" gameplay, so you needed to have food in order to rest (which would get used up), and there was almost no magic...not exactly my cup of tea generally but the other players were nice enough so I stuck around for a while. I'm not really interested in online RPG play anymore because I just don't prioritize video gaming high enough to have any regular time to put aside and play.

You play American realms?
I have an account on EU realms with an 80 level character, but have suspended it until Cataclysm comes out. At that point I was thinking of starting a new character anyway, so I might just leave that and start up an entirely new account on American since you can't transfer them. I'd be happy to guild up then if you're willing and able. :)

I'm in a US Realm, Burning Blade. It's been since the beginning of the semester though since I've played.

yeah we are on Us realms now, just screwing around until Cataclysm comes out. I have a few toons on Maiev and we just started leveling on Blood Hoof. All horde right now, I played Ally when I first started WoW but it's been so long I wouldn't know what to do with an Ally toon now haha

Nethack

Awesome!!
I'm dgoddard on http://www.alt.org/nethack -- always a chaotic Monk, or a Tourist.
Haven't played there much lately though (too much work takin' up my gaming time)
Every Halloween night, after the kiddies are in bed, I join the devnull tournament. The amount I play the rest of the month depends on work and family and stuff.

I usually get farther playing a monk than any other, but ranger has been fun.
Joining the tournament would be a waste of time for me. I never get past 10-12th levels. Ever. Not in 12 years of playing the bloody game.
I have gotten quite good at the sokoban levels, though. Repetition.

The tournament is fun because they add cool mods to the program. Last year(?) it was the pacman level. Big fun.
And in 20 years of playing nethack and reading spoilers, I think I've ascended 3 times. Not an easy game, dude.

Did you ascend without going into Xplore mode?
I suck at NH because I always choose the knights. And knights suck.
-
Did you ascend without going into Xplore mode?
Yes. eXplore is not a real game.
I never played a Knight. But, can they suck worse than Tourists? I only got PYEC like 4-5 times in thousands of games. I did ascend as a Tourist once or twice, though (can't remember -- like I said, I've been playing ~20 years)
-
I've only managed to ascend twice. Both times with Valkyries, so I can exactly brag.
But that's alright, because I made a whole frigging tileset that people like.

Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2 both come with a $20 coupon if you order them from Amazon.com right now. Considering the price for SMG2, that means you kinda get it for under $30, which is a great deal. Keep in mind, the game is supposed to be twice as big as SMG1.
You can even use the FTL link, amazon.freetalklive.com

Red Dead Redemption looks bomb. The first game Red Dead Revolver was great. One of my favorite games for xbox.

Playing Red Dead Redemption, so much better than GTA games, love the music and the graphics kick ass. Did the river scene with the Irishman, now I'm in Mexico chasing after two dudes. There is no beat up the whores feature though, that kind of sucks. I love killing animals in the game then skiinning them, lmao. I'm hoping that the game will give me access to molotov cocktails later on, saw them on one earlier level, it would be neat to see if I could burn down Armadillo.

Got an XBox 360 on Friday and Red Dead Redemption yesterday. I'm enjoying it, but the controls are a bit of a learning curve as I haven't played console games in years. That's the excuse I'm going to use anyway for utterly fucking up at herding cows into a corral and getting so frustrated that I shot one in the head.

So the new 250 gb Xbox 360 (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-250GB-Elite-Console/dp/B003O6JJKY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1277241194&sr=8-1) arrived this afternoon. My first thoughts are that aesthetically I still like the 120 gb version more, but everything else seems to be superior. The console is noticeably quieter and smaller, though the power brick really doesn't look much smaller to me. The included controller seems slightly smaller than the old ones, and is entirely black except for the buttons. The joystick and direction pads are black, but thankfully they didn't decide to make the controller glossy to match the console! That would've been an smudge fest within seconds.
I was somewhat disappointed that unlike the older version the power cable and AV cable are not grey, because that distinguished them from the mass of other black cords coming out the back of our entertainment center. But that's a minor complaint.
I guess it's cool that the there's now a beeping sensor rather than a button that you use to open the drawer? It beeps both when you open it and close it. Doesn't make much difference to me one way or the other, but if the button has been causing problems for you then that might be a relief.
Setting up wifi was a breeze-- it auto-detects your network and you enter the WEP key, and you're good to go. Netflix will stream if you have a Netflix account and you have Xbox Live Gold, but you have to download an application and activate it through their web site.
We got a month's subscription to Gold with the SanDisk USB drive (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Flash-SanDisk-SDCZGXB-008G-A11/dp/B003EV7EC4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1277239761&sr=8-1) we bought to transfer profiles and games from the old console to the new one. Getting used to it is going to take a while for me though, I think, since I haven't played that way in.....well, ever. Rarely even used vent in WoW with my guild. The idea of roaming around in a game with a bunch of strangers talking to each other is kind of intimidating. I know that sounds silly to you people who have been doing it forever, but for me it's weird, okay? ;) I logged into Red Dead Redemption multiplayer and some guy was singing like a loon. Anonymity makes people behave oddly.
The included headset seems equally flimsy as the one that came with the other Xbox, just all black in comparison to the old version's black and grey. I assume I'll be buying a more substantial version sooner or later.
All in all, this purchase seems like a no-brainer for a person like me who is entirely new to the XBox 360 and has no other consoles (well, aside from an original XBox). If you've already got one that is in reasonably good shape, it might be a harder decision for you. The $90 trade-in deal from GameStop (http://kotaku.com/5567148/how-to-trade+up-to-the-new-xbox-360-for-90) seems like a good way to go.

Re: SC2
I entered a contest to win a collector's edition, but otherwise I'll probably get it next year or so. Too many other games to play right now, and I know I'll suck at the multi-player mode so there's no big rush to get it at the same time everybody else is.
Am enjoying the hell out of DeathSpank (http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/07/deathspank-2/), though. :)

I've started playing Pirates! again. The most recent one. One of the interesting things about the older Pirates! Gold was that you could make more money trading between ports than you could going on account. This new one, however, basically mandates that you engage in mass theft to advance to the better levels.

That'd be real cool. If I'm ever allowed to leave the state, I'll surely find the skinny-half of my Mali and make the trek.
Once upon a time, I was actually half decent. Better on a bar table than a pro-size. Although, these days, probably suck on both.
My last hangout, the owners kid took a shine to me. Ten years old, played better than just about any decent guy. Kid was a born hustler. He'd come over, tug on my sleeve, I'd look down from my stool.. theres this kid with an open handful of quarters. Arite, you rack. Ethan, I think.
They used to keep him entertained by having a TV over in the quiet corner playing Sponge Bob DVDs, he'd hang over there with fries and a coke, his stick. Tell ya what, its annoying getting beat by a kid who has one eye glued to fuckin' Sponge Bob, in between shots.

yeah this is true....all the battlefields are so much better than that jank game call of duty on the consoles.....dont get me wrong i do have the cod games but they are so lame compared to battlefield...really really lame. the call of duty maps are so small that its stupid. everybody is running around in a small little box just shooting like retards....battlefield your in it....pretty freggin awesome. the helicopters and tanks are just bad ass....all the vehicles are very deadly.....the maps are really good and realistic....weapons are tha shanizik....just an all around great war game. can you tell i like it :) bad company 2 is really good too......graphics are excellent...i like the tanks in bc2...when they fire off the whole ground shakes and dust is blown everywhere...wheres my bowl in need to fire up and go play ;)

I'm back into World of Warcraft for the time being. I'm on Area 52 Horde side if anyone wants to say hi. (Go ahead, flame me all you want for playing WoW. It keeps me out of trouble until I can move to NH, because otherwise I'd most likely be in jail because there is absolutely nothing to do here in Rochester NY. Not to mention the guild I'm in is a bunch of cool, crazy fucks)
Really thinking about checking out Minecraft too.

You kill things just as much in WOW as any other game.
Also, video games <> Reality.

Is the original Silent Hill for PS2 hard to get? I'm getting the impression it may be a collectible now. I did a search for it and it's confusing as to whether what I found is even the original game or some sequel.
I found the movie to be rather creepy. It takes a lot for a movie to scare me and that one kinda managed at times. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first couple of Resident Evil games and thought I might enjoy Silent Hill as well.

The only game I had a real problem with was Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. It just didn't feel right and people take that shit way too seriously. I didn't mind Red Dead Redemption.
But I agree, video games aren't reality but I had a problem with CODMW2 because I actually felt like I was supporting the military by buying and playing the damn game and it stopped being fun.
-
I don't play PvP in anything online. It's not that the idea of killing the character belonging to a real person puts me off, but I prefer to do that with friends only and not with 14 year old boys.
WoW is on hold until Cataclysm comes out, at which point I'm thinking of starting a brand new account on American servers (mine is currently on EU, and there's still no way to switch it) and going for a blank slate. Might as well, since my EU guild has pretty much fragmented, Cata will make the world look totally different, and there will be two new races to play with their own stories and starter zones.
Continue to like Civ Rev. Got Tropico 3, but it looks pretty crappy on my TV.....like you need a flat screen if you want to be able to read the text properly. Fallout New Vegas will be out in a couple of weeks, and I've ordered the collector's edition for BF for his birthday. Squee.

I just got an invite into the Cata Beta. I've spent the last two days trying to install it and think I have it installed. That's the fun of trying to play a Windows game in Linux :P
Soon as Cata comes out my orc hunter (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Area+52&cn=Lonehunter) is changing to an undead hunter. I'm rolling a Troll Druid and a goblin something (not sure yet) and possibly a Worgen something.
I'd say hop onto Area 52 and join the guild I'm in if you want. Been in there for 2+ years. Casual guild but they try to raid every week. I think at one point we had the most females in a guild on our server and it might still be true LOL.
Hell we could start a WoW FTL guild :P

Well, my first priority is to join up with some friends on Earthen Ring, where I'll be starting a goblin rogue and probably devote most of my time to her. But hey, alts can go anywhere. There's been talk about starting an FTL guild before, but I'm not sure how many people actually play, and play on US servers.

I am just starting out playing video games. I bought a Wii a few months ago - it is my first gaming console of any kind. So far all we have is Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus, Sonic and the Secret Rings, and Scene It! Movie Edition. The boy wants Super Mario Galaxy 2, I think. And I'm really bad at playing them...so if you make recommendations please start with stuff that's fairly innocuous. Like, kids' stuff.

Fallout: New Vegas (I FOUND A FRIDGE WITH A CORPSE AND A FEDORA HAT INNIT!!!!)
Yeah yeah, rub it in. (It's not out over here yet.)
Impressions?
A lot like Fallout 3, only the quests are a hell of a lot more interesting, and so are the characters. The main storyline is a lot longer, too, I guess. Lots of old school Fallout monsters have been brought back, too. Mantises, geckos, nightkin etc.
There's also a perk you can get that gives you all of the really weird, funny shit, like in Fallout 2. I went into a town that had been burned down and saw two corpses outside, they were "Owen" and "Beru"
Fun shit.
Character models and animation still look like shit tho.

I must be doing it wrong...I can't get past much. Worst money I've ever spent. Oh...wait....I took out student loans just so I could quit college 5 times.
Seriously though, Minecraft looks interesting, I just haven't been able to do much other than pick up flowers and throw them. And get stuck in ditches. With no way out. And watch it get dark. And then quit the game and restart only to do the same exact fucking thing.

Lol. Its all about figuring things out on your own. If you want a hint though, go pound a tree into bits. Then hit "i" and place a log in the 4X4 square area. Try different combinations and shapes. Also, dont have the game on peaceful, and try to outwit the creepers at night :) The creepers are the best and worst part of the game.

Go with a cave and a latter plus door. Creepers can blow up a house like its nothing and you cant see it coming. In my main one I built a latter up a cliff to a special walkway that goes to an inner chamber protected by a door. Creepers have actually fallen off the cliff and blown up the outer surface before so I put a wall around the top of the cliff and covered the hillside with waterfalls. Its rather complex but awesome. I'm working on minecarts right now.

''minecraft''?
who the fuck did the graphics?
the guys from the 1970's atari games?

Finally got Just Cause 2 after a few months of sitting atop my Gamefly list. Whole thing's a blast, blow up evil (Southeast Asian) government infrastructure, drive or fly anything, and best of all a grappling hook and parachutes that defy all physics. You can't beat grabbing a guy with your hook, then hooking that line to a propane tank, shooting it, and watching it fly off into the sky.
-
wow. Minecraft is addictive as fuck. And yeah the graphics suck. I've built a couple subterranean castles so far that extend far above ground at key points as well. Problem is when I die I can't find them and have to build another one. I guess eventually I'll have enough of them littered throughout so that it won't be a problem.
Finding iron is a bitch though. I dig forever and then get like 10 ingots worth, which isn't even enough to fund the pickaxes.
-
I just got a PS3 and got a couple games for it to tide me over until Gran Turismo 5 comes out. I'm also excited for the new Tron game and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. So far I've got:
Dragon Age: Origins (liking it, though the maps don't make much sense to me)
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time (a little tedious so far, but I only played through the first 15 minutes or so)
Super Street Fighter 4 (very, very good)
Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection (a bunch of old Sega Genesis games including Shining Force 1 and 2...awesome)
Sports Champions (I got all the Move shit...it's pretty fun)
Stuff currently on my "to get" list: Katamari Forever and Bayonetta. Does anyone have any more suggestions?

Yeah iron is tough. You have to just walk along caverns until you find it or you'll be going through pickaxes like crazy. I think theres a way to get your respawn to change, but its a game hack and could screw up the game (maybe, who knows?) after the game switches to Beta. I started my homebase very close to my respawn on purpose and now I'm building (And having fun figuring out) a minecart track across the ocean to a more suitable and resourceful base. If you dont want to lose your sense of direction print out a few maps using Cartographer (search the minecraft forum) or build a giant lighthouse using torches and ladders (I've done both on my main). Getting lost sucks worse underground though and I still havent worked out a system for that other than dig up to the surface and get my bearings.

Thanks! I also found some stuff on the forums. Holy fuck this shit is addicting as hell.
Also, aren't zombies supposed to burn up during the day? I have a few roaming around, blowing me up and a couple got in my cave and fucked all my shit up. I finally got him dead using a torch. Now I need to rebuild all the fucking tools i had because when the fucker killed me the first time he blasted my chest, forge, and crafting table. At least my wooden door is in tact! :P
Best thing I did was put torches all around the area on the outside on higher ground where my cave is. I might try the lighthouse idea. The dude who is making this game is seriously undercharging. No, the graphics are not amazing, but think of it as digital legos.

While we're on the topic, any of you Minecraft players know any good ways to make a trap for the spider mob spawner I found? I built a trap that will drown all the spiders and float the items to me, but it doesnt do it automatically, only if I wait for the spiders to spawn, open the trap, then close it again and wait for more to spawn. That is a tedious way to get items I only want because they're free.
Those guys who are green and get you in the sunlight are called "creepers" and they're scary as hell when you're working and all of a sudden you get blown up by one that snuck up on you. Sssssssssssssssssss...BOOM! I build all my buildings with them specifically in mind. I make it so they cant get in, and if they blow up a wall of my base there is at least 3 layers of rock between where they can get to and the inside of my base. Even underground I build little separate rooms just in case. Currently no mobs can climb ladders or swim underwater so if you make your base with that in mind it can be safe. Also, you can make your house real deep underground with a straight tube covered in ladders ending nearer the bottom mobs will see you at the bottom and fall down it to their deaths but you will be slowed down from falling by the ladders automatically. You can even make waterfalls "suggest" that mobs jump down the tube

So, i did some exploring. Dug a hole in the ground, used ladders instead of trying to create stairs to get down. This seems to work out good. So, I'm building my lair, multi-leveled, just in case the creepers do manage to survive the fall down the hole. So I'm digging away, spending "days and nights" toiling away at making a walkway to a more central area. I decide to use the ladder hole approach thing to go deeper, next thing I know I'm in this huge fucking cavern. I blocked the water flowing in, found lots of coal and iron. I was happier than a pig in shit toiling away at getting that space setup.
Alll of a sudden I hear creepers. WTF...I'm too far underground. I turn around and theres about 5 creepers running towards me. That didn't end well. They must have fallen through another hole or something and I gave up on it. I copied the save file before I dug the second ladder hole, so i might attempt again, but this time making a room to block off the creepers in that cavern.
This game is fucking epic. Seriously, this is one time when graphics don't mean shit. Stupid, mindless game with no story and it's more of an addiction than WoW has been.
-
Alll of a sudden I hear creepers. WTF...I'm too far underground.
No, you're not. They spawn down there, in the caves, along with zombies, spiders, and blobs.
Remember, monsters fear the light and thrive in the darkness... *HINT*

Glass roofs and torches ftw. Also, creative use of obstacles. I'm currently working on my newest base and I plan on attempting several traps and walls made creatively out of water, cacti, and hopefully lava (havent found any lava on that base yet since there's enough minerals in high up caves to not necessitate a trip to the bedrock). My minecart track is halfway to my future base and I'm quite proud of it however simple it may be.
Future site of my next base:

Anyways. Found some interesting stuff.
Yes, the flying white things there are the Ghasts. They shoot fireballs at you, and according to Notch, ‘When there are this many Ghasts, you don’t survive for long‘. Specially considering that that red-ish block there burns forever. Yup. Lots of Ghasts throwing fireballs on you and rock that burns forever. That makes sense. It’ll be great to be trapped by lots of flying, crying creatures in a hell-ish dimension full of lava waterfalls. Yes, seriously, it’ll be amazing.
You see that obsidian doorway there? That’s a portal. To make one, make a frame out of obsidian, and set fire to the space inside it. Walk in, you’re in Hell (Notch might rename it; a wise decision, since some people might think it’s somehow related to religion and that wouldn’t be good for his bussiness). If you want to get back to the normal world, you’ll have to make another portal – and there’s the catch. Place the portal just a bit away from the entrance one, and bam, you’re really far. In PCGamer’s Tom Francis’ words, ‘Make one 10 meters away, and you’ll find yourself 160 meters ahead in the real world when you get back‘.
He also tells us that there will be six new blocks – five will have new functions. Also coming with the Halloween update are the biomes, one of the features fans have requested the most. Deserts, forests, snowy mountains. Looks like Minecraft’s already gorgeous landscapes will be even better.
I also found this, some really interesting ideas here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=14998

They cant wait the one week left until the halloween update? Damn. The longer Notch waits to go to Beta the better because it means the game will remain half price. I'm not some indy person who wants there to be as few users as possible, the more, certainly the better.

Redstone has uses for circuitry, but I'd think it'd be hard to get enough resources (aka iron bars) to be able to efficiently use them without hacking.
My current main world so far:
You're gonna wanna zooooom in.
A: End of minecart tracks, I need to go mining again so I can make more.
B: Tree that wont stop being on fire.
C: Lava Fountain.
D: Construction area where creepers like to ambush me.
E: Super awesome castle over-top of epic lake with sweet rooms and waterfalls.
F: Arrow made out of wool for map reference in the past.
G: Main mine. Biggest I have ever seen. Usually I run through an entire dungeon before extracting elements but this one is far too big and I cant help but get lost everytime I go exploring. Contains 1 spider mob spawner.
H: Cacti farm.
I: Beginning of minecart track. Minecart storage building. Minecart booster!
J: Mostly abandoned old base with waterfall entrance.
L & K: L used to be my respawn but my game glitched so that now not only do I respawn at K, but my save file is -.1 megabytes. Actually it should say 5+. Below in a relatively small mine is another spider mob spawner.
-
WTF. My save file must have corrupted or something because in a straight line down the map half of my world was resetted. Half my base is missing. Torches on the old side are still hanging in midair where there used to be a wall on the new side.   Also, for some reason part of my base and the half of the map that is new is covered with snow.
-
(http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/9651/clipmo.jpg)
Its mind boggling. Also, my respawn spot moved again. This time its even further from my base, closer to where my original one was. On the brightside the mining operations in the broken area of the map are amazing due to the fact that caverns in one area expose another area. It even revealed a dungeon and mob spawner (unknown type as of yet) that can be seen from the surface. There are also cool effects like a half ice half water lake.
-
None. :(

I got Gran Turismo 5 before I left to come home for Thanksgiving and it is, so far, amazing. The only problem/complaint I have so far is that it still has the stupid licensing tests. They're nice for practicing or whatever, but I hate that they make them required in order to complete the game. That's always been a silly Gran Turismo quirk, though, so it was expected. It's too bad I had to leave right after I got the game. It was really great for the few hours I was able to play it.
-
Moral objections to the subject of licenses aside, I find that the license system in the Gran Turismo series is more important than ever to help players learn because of the online play element, and to prevent bad drivers from jumping straight into more complicated high speed races which could harm the enjoyment for others. That said, the game could instead track a player's ability and put them in races which correspond with it.
I don't have GT5 yet, but I'm still playing Red Dead Redemption with the posse/clan I founded, and we're expanding it to create a gaming forum, which I hope will attract liberty lovers...
And yeah, I'm a minecraft addict also. My bro purchased the game and he's building some AMAZING stuff. He manually laid out a massive glass domed structure. We might set up a server if there's enough interest.

Heavy Rain (PS3), it's better than I thought it would be, it's story driven. I like mystery and drama and this game fits the bill.

I play League of Legends. Free to play online. If you like pvp, it is awesome.

I recently got a ps3 , And I got Mag, Killzone 3 and Little big planet 2
If you like first person shoots mag and killzone 3 are probably some of the best for the ps3, and little big planet 2 is a ok but has potential because people are constantly making new levels/content for it
If you want to add me to friends list I'm atomic2002

I don't have any of those games, mostly because I'm not a huge fan of the FPS genre on consoles (I like my mouse and keyboard for that). I've been playing Final Fantasy XIII and Gran Turismo 5 recently. A lot of people didn't like FFXIII's new real-time combat system, but I think it's great. Gran Turismo 5 is good too, but the GT games are always a bit of a grind until you've essentially beat the game.
Oh, and the cutscenes and graphics for FFXIII are really good.

Killzone 3
Too few multiplayer maps. Really short campaign (solved in 2 days just playing for a little while each day)
Big bummer cuz it could really be an awesome game if it had more MP options. Only been playing multiplayer for 3 days and im already tired of it.
Cheap bastards

I was thinking about giving it away, but I want to be able to play again when the full version comes out or when this problem is fixed.

Dragon Age 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2, both on Xbox 360, right now. I can't get Anders to stop whining and trying to pick my character up. Looking forward to Elder Scrolls V and Battlefield 3. I'm definitely buying a decent PC in time for those two...

I'm playing Blackthorne in Kega Fusion, with a keyboard until I get a Sega controller adapter.

Updated tree. Second layer of branches almost done. Takes a lot of time to gather up all that wool. Prolly 4 or 5,000 wool cubes + cactus dyes. Who knows how much friggin' wood? The whole valley of trees is how much. Couldn't guess at a number.

That is incredibly epic. You might want to watch it with all that wood though. I see you have lots of flames going, also, in the next update there will seemingly be lightning (that probably light shit on fire). Perhaps you might want to skip the next update to be sure. I put a roof on my stronghold just in case.

I'm still playing Sid Miers colonization, you'll aren't????? WTF?

Yeah, thanks for reminding me....
(Just duped the save folder to a safe place)
There. Now I can risk its destruction. ;-)

Did you start by building that tree on a mountain? The clouds are very low. I avoid building into the clouds because they are so annoying to have wafting through blinding you.
-
I dunno if you thought about this or are doing it, but you could probably save a lot of resources by making the tree hollow and/or using a dirt core.
I'm currently building in two separate worlds (my first time ever playing came 3/4 days ago), on my laptop and desktop. On my laptop, I've got an epic freaking tower that you can see from anywhere within a reasonable distance. I got lost spelunking yesterday, wound up in a volcano, built my way up out the top of it and, boom, there was my tower in the distance. Instant orientation.

You might want to build a compass.
Shaw, you should consider uploading your save file so we can check out the map. :)

Wow, that is an awesome base. Also your epic tower nearby the tree. I see you stripmine like an efficient motherfucker. I play on "normal", and I suppose it doesnt matter which you play on because you put torches on EVERYTHING. Pretty sweet though. You must have been playing this map forever. My biggest one doesnt even come close because eventually one way or another I end up deleting the map and starting a new one. My biggest one ever had minecart tracks going for miles.
Oh, and as a special treat:

original seed?
Consider it the unique identifier for the world he was on. So if someone finds a world with a triple spawner (incredibly rare) they can share the seed and other people can build their own creations on the same world from scratch. Its a good way to start a new world somewhere unique. "gargamel" is probably the most famous. I tried building a world on it once but the landscape was so crazy that I couldnt bring myself to destroy it. Perhaps if I tidy my little world up a bit I'll upload it. I'm playing on normal, no hacks, right now. Once mo'creatures mod is updated I'll add it back again and I'm planning my base accordingly (as in, building it to reduce attacks and prevent troll damage.).

You burneded it.
As for map management, I stick with one until a new version with big changes come out, so this one has been around since maybe 1.3?
I'm all about the building part of the game, so sticking with one map has its incentives.

That whole thing burned to the ground except for the chests, doors, and dirt lol. Backed up the save beforehand anyway. Usually my maps are deleted by glitches that erase them (power loss glitch) but occasionally it is good to just start over. For example now I am trying to play with the Mo Creatures Mod and on normal which adds a significantly larger challenge to the game.

so how do i use an original seed to check his world out?
If you want to see what he BUILT then download the file he uploaded and put it in your save file.
If you want to see his world without buildings or construction, start a new save file and paste the seed ID where it says "seed".
Do you even have the game or are you just being weird?

I am behind on video games ... currently playing the PC versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum & Crysis

I have it (the linux version), but I'm new at both Minecraft and Linux. I haven't played with any the seeding and I don't see the file he uploaded (Maybe, I missed it). So, the Minecraft file is currently stationed on my desktop. I just right click, open in sun java and boom, digging to my heart's content. I've tried to avoid any kind of wiki or tutorial so as not to spoil the novelty for as long as I can. I'm currently trying to make a pool of lava flow into a lake I built (difficulty with the water system and poor initial design on my part). I've seen the IP slot for multiplayer if anyone wants to get together and build, I'm game in the evenings (central time for a coupla more months).

You have to pay some monies to get a private server going :(
We could always start a build-it-n-pass-it site though. Build for a day, then upload it and pass it on to someone else.

so, Shaw, how's your base coming along?
OK, so I'm trying to open your world, but I'm using Ubuntu (only OS available right now) and I cannot find where the save f fixed
How did you get so much resources? What mining technique did you use? I've dug down to the bedrock and started just clearing out everything and have only found 6 diamonds and maybe 30-50 iron.

Iron is easy. Find caves and explore them. You'll find more iron that way than you will by digging it all out. Caves are littered with coal and iron.
For diamond you dig down to bedrock, go up about 10 squares, and start digging strips out with two spaces in between.
Imagine you are looking at a wall -
##*##*##*##*##
##*##*##*##*##
##*##*##*##*##
#- is an intact wall. * is dug out.
Make the dug out areas 5x high. Go in a straight line. Dig as far back as you wanna go and then start on the next line. You will get the maximum number of goody blocks for the least amount of digging this way. The highest concentration of diamond is from layers 10 - 16 up from bedrock.

I play a lot of Minecraft also. Usually I like to put on the FTL podacst and work on my citadel.
I've also been messing with flight simulator X (if it can really be considered a "game")
I just bought Fallout:New Vegas which I plan on digging into tomorrow since it's my day off work.
-
I am playing God Father right now and enjoy it too much.
-
FNV is fun, but its more of the same and begins to feel lifeless and empty after a while

I've been playing through Dragon Age: Origins - Awakenings, and it's a bit disappointing compared to the original game. It's mostly just hack and slash dungeon crawling while getting showered with extremely high-level gear and loot. It's fun for a time, but the story REALLY takes a back seat.

Yeah...the reviews of DA2 are not encouraging.
Imagine exploring the same dungeon forty or fifty times.
Not imagine a battle from Dragon Age Origins, set it in the copypasta'd dungeon, only cut all the enemie's hit points by 90%, and add ten times as many.
Have them teleport in seemingly at random. Have wave after wave of them.
Imagine all the loot being automatically picked up and separated between vendor trash and usable stuff.
Imagine no armor for anyone but the main character.
That's a tiny taste.
-
You forgot to add increasing the speed by 10 fold. All you have time to realistically do is mash the attack button over and over...
-

Just got it. Haven't had much time to really play it alot yet, but seems very cool so far. I pretty much just play open world stuff, so im kinda biased in favor of games like this.
-
You'll realize that its not an open world when you have choice of 1 city and three dungeon themes(1 of which is the city) which are recycledfor every mission.

Have been playing Bioshock 1 & 2 on playstation. Bioshock may be an older game, but it is really fun. Great graphics, awesome art design, good sound, and intriguing gameplay. Bioshock 2 added duel weapons (at the same time). I think its called "duel wield."
Looking forward to Rage, Skyrim, and Battlefield 3. All pre-ordered on Amazon.

I liked Bioshock, but the whole Ayn Rand rebuttal message just slowly killed any enjoyment I had playing it.

FUCKIN DEUS EX YO

How is Deus ex, I heard the shooting parts suck
-
How is Deus ex, I heard the shooting parts suck
I dunno. I've spent so much of my time shooting people with tranquilizers, stun guns, and PEPS, and sneaking up from behind and punching the shit out of them that I never noticed.
Also hacking computers, stealing shit, getting my experience on, buying new powers, enjoying the story etc.
I'd say that the shooting parts would totally suck if you didn't spend the points on the armor augment early on. The game tends to treat bullets as if they were some sort of heavy metal projectile that moves at a very high rate of speed and would quickly kill a human being whose been hit by one, unless they are protected in some way.
I play in such a way as to not get shot at as often as possible.
The game is awesome. If you liked the original Deus Ex, you'd be nuts not to play this one.
-
My 7-year-old son is now playing Myst, thanks to realMyst (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/real_myst)
I liked that it was downloadable, no waiting for atoms to ship.
It's really nice to have fully interactive motion, not the "click-slide-show" of the original.
It's truly awesome to see my son solving tricky puzzles.
He still thinks Sirrus is the "good" son and Achenar must be the "evil" son.
Ssssssshhhhhh.... don't spoil the surprise!

Persona 3 FES (PS2)
Never played a persona game before. Tartarus is a little repetitive, but perhaps that's because I'm used to grinding a bit. Learning how to better craft Personas. A decent story. IMO, Atlus games are the standard by which RPG storylines should be judged, starting with Kartia/Rebus. I purchased a sealed copy of Persona 4 from ebay and I'm looking forward to that. Persona 5 will probably be released by the time I'm done with 4.
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
Published by the same people who made Ico. I hear they're going to be releasing a PS3 version of these games. While the graphics are dated, the sense of atmosphere isn't half bad and the battles are fun... except for the sand worm boss. Such a pain in the butt! I might not ever finish it. :P
Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
Yes, I'm still playing this game. They have free DLC coming soon! I've made a name for myself on there, and the infamy of some of the players who like to grief and cheat.. Vigilance_Pep is my current username. Vigilance is my libertarian/agorist gaming clan. Let's hook up and find some common PS3 games to promote NAP ethics on(where applicable without ruining enjoyment of game)!
Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
Thoroughly enjoyable racing sim. I like tuning, learning and racing with any vehicle, though I really enjoy the Mazdas. Any of you playing?
My bro is playing Minecraft and he just got back into GTAIV.
-
I'm back to playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in preparation for Battlefield 3. Looking forward to Skyrim, Rage, and Madden, though I certainly will NOT buy any more than 2 of those this year...Who has time for all that?
-
Just beat Deus Ex.
Spoliers below.
It was fucking awesome.

Peppermint Pig: I played GT5 for a while back when it came out. I haven't had time to play recently though, and when I tried the other night, I had to download a 130MB patch first. Oh well. I agree, though. It's a great racing sim game...and Mazdas are always fun to drive ;)

Next time you're in the mood to play please get in touch. Would appreciate a friend request. :)
I'm mostly between Persona 3 and Red Dead Redemption (staying in practice) at the moment, but squeezing in an hour or three of GT5 usually on the weekends.
-
I just got Spore and I gotta say it's pretty awesome. The only part that sucks is my limited imagination.
-
playing elder scrolls oblivion, mainly cuz I found it while cleaning out one of the closets. I've never completed all of the main quests before, I always get bored and go on a mass killing spree and . This time I'm trying really hard not to just go waste a town and the last bit of thieves quests are quite fun. I think I'll need a newer rpg to play after this.
-
Playing warezed copy of Dead Island until money is a little better, then I shall be buying two copies and haranguing my beloved bride into playing co-op.
Holy shit it's good.
-
Right now I’m playing Nestalgia. It is a pretty cool 2D RPG. The only thing that annoys me in it is the pokemon-style combat.
-
If I tried to explain to you exactly how awesome Dead Island is, it would take me as long as it would take for you to play the game start to finish.
It is Just Cause 2 + Far Cry 2 + Fallout 3 + Borderlands covered in a heaping layer of Dead Rising. It's frigginn zombies EVERYWHERE yo.
I accidentally threw my best weapon (A katana that had had three industrial batteries and some wire taped to it. DON'T TAZEKATANA ME BRO) at a pustule covered exploding zombie. The second I realized my mistake, he exploded, sending my poor katana to wherever good weapons go when they die. I think I saw it fly up and over a building but I'm not sure. I never found it again.
It's alright though, because I now have a poisonous wakizashi that makes zombies throw up uncontrollably occasionally and a gun WITH TAZER BULLETS.
-
I’m playing NFS hot pursuit and GTA IV in My PS3, I mostly play GTA IV because it has all sorts of activities in it.

Still playing Dead Island.
Still good.

I went back to a PS game, Tobal #1, and have been playing it with a roommate recently. We are also playing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. He is using an arcade stick which is pretty loud. He claims it gives him an advantage.
-
So many posts with games I'd like to try... I wish I had time to play video games right now.
But I am super busy making angry birds, pigs, kirby, pea shooters and Gir plushes to fill orders for the holidays.
(Well, the time that isn't used in training for ultra race.)
I will make my christmas wishlist from these pages, and spend all January in front of the screen.

Minecraft (at least before I got active with Occupy Appleton)! New updates keep that game fun. I might have to post my save file here online at some point to let you guys see what I'm doing and so you'll do the same but I'm just too busy to play :(
Endermen are pretty cool though.
-
Hey Minecraft players, download my map and check it out. You'll have to unzip it before putting it with your save files however.
The main features are the Chicken Farm & Animal Trap/Sorter (complete with lava purge for aggressive mobs). Any animal that comes near my base is channeled into one of two chutes which both lead to a room where I can either let them into their pens or rain lava from above.

I'm still playing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on PS3 but I'm also playing Super Street Fighter II on Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl on Wii and Soul Caliber 4 on PS3. I'm also trying out Eternal Champions on Wii. I've started playing Picross 3D on DS again.

Still playing Dead Island. M now has a copy and we play coop together. It's her first success with an FPS type game. Waiting for Arkham City for PC and Skyrim.

City of Heroes became free to play recently. I started a super group called The Liberty Response Network.

I am, indeed playing Dead Island. Had some issues getting started, but now that I've got all the logistics worked out (controls, FoV, etc.), I'm kicking ass. Could NOT play this game solo, though. My fighting style is to whip around wildly, hacking and slashing at whatever moves. Also, I get lost and I can't drive (in-game), so Shaw does all the driving and navigating. But it is quite a lot of fun.
Just before that I ran through Costume Quest, which was funny and appropriately-timed (Halloween). Dragon Age is waiting for me to care again. I started over once I got Steam and finished Origins, then thought I'd do the DLC before I went to Awakenings (which is kind of lame). Finally, I have Sherlock Holmes - Awakening (Remastered) waiting. Going to have to be in the mood for that one.

This game looks SICK! I am going to get it soon.
It's wild! I'd go so far as to say "realistic" - as far as an imagined zombie apocalypse anyway. Except for the people begging you to go find their jewelry, or booze, while they're standing next to someone who just asked you to find a lost family member or life-saving medication. Well, maybe people would still do that...
My real intro. to gaming was World of Warcraft, so I'm a tad bit annoyed by the fact that my character in this game is stuck in her skirt and high-heeled pumps while running around beaches, cities (jumping from roof-to-roof) and - soon - the jungle. Her clothes are shredded. If she has time to root through stranger's luggage for money and butane, etc., couldn't she find a pair of tennies?
-

I do fit that stereotype here, especially in-game. IRL, I'm a little navigation-challenged, but have more time to work out where I am and where I need to go, without a zombie horde descending. But, I'm also fairly new to this. It's my first FSP and the first with this kind of action. WoW could get like it occasionally, but there were so many quests to choose from that you could have a break.

Very cool game. Got it the day it came out. Lots of small side missions you can do to make the game last longer. I'd suggest doing as many as you can.
That was the only downside........... didn't last long enough.
They need to make another Just Cause 2 type game....huge open world with endless stuff to blow up and mess with. I still drag that one out to this day and ive had it for almost 2 years.

Hearts of Iron III by Paradox Interactive.

I actually feel like I'm wasting my time when I'm playing a game that isn't an MMORPG. It's like the fruits of my efforts don't persist. I played Bioshock all the way through and it was like "Oh. Now it's over." And I forgot about it. That's probably healthier, but still...

Bummed out. Was gonna get MW3, but my machine doesn't have the horsepower to run it.
Normally I don't game, but I'm getting bored. I ran out of internet.
I'll have to look for something a little older.
Also, special note to Denis: Next time you talk to Larry, tell him I'm very disappointed with Java. Its a pain in the fuckin' balls.

GTA IV
Plants VS Zombies
Borderlands
P.S. I wonder what a dragon pussy feels like.
-
That game Shaw put up I probly shoulda got.
Instead like an asshole I went out and got a PS3 with Call of Duty MW3. Its hard. Its loud. And I have no fucking clue how to operate the controller. I'm all thumbs, my hand-eye coordination is shit. Half the time, I'm running backwards and looking up at the sky. This sucks.
I'll have to view a few idiots tutorials.
-
I'll have to view a few idiots tutorials.
I just got that game for ps3 yesterday. Its fun.
There should be a tutorial/training mode where they run you through the paces somewhere in the game settings. Most games have it, but I haven't checked for this game yet.
-
I guess they figure you're up to speed by playing MW1 and 2.
Half the time, I don't even know what weapons I'm carrying. And I don't really care for the lack of continuity, hop-scotching from a submarine to a russian airplane, to some little shithole in Somalia.
It is pretty slick, though. Once I get used to this, I'll probably tone it down to LA Noire or something where I can follow the plot. This kinda freaked me out a little, in the beginning. I was afraid I'd jumped into the deep end of the pool, and wouldn't be able to make it past the first board.
LOL, I shot a chicken.
-
LOL, I shot a chicken.
Funny you mentioned the chickens. Thats the first thing that came to mind when I was in the Somalia shit-hole city with all the tin shacks all over the place. Following some dude to escape from mortar rounds being shot at us, im on top of this shack and theres some chickens down below and I think "hmm... wonder if im allowed to pop one of these here chickens" Yessir, they die just like the bad guys.
The red dot gun seems to be my favorite so far.
I shouldn't even be up playing this right now. Gotta work at 8 in the morning.
-
Yeah, I like those red dot guns. Iron sights aren't so hot, except for one that has a half-circle / post style isn't bad.
I'm not quite as confused as I was in the beginning, but they have all these "Enemy Intel" extras I can't seem to find, and I donno if it matters.
Also, I don't like how they throw these curveballs at you like CONTROL THE HELICOPTER! and I'm like what?
I guess thats the stuff that'll be cool on the second go-round when I make it "difficult".
-
Wait till you play the online multiplayer stuff once you get bored with the campaign.
Thats alot of fun too.

orcs must die. Weird combination of first person mediavel shooter and tower defense. Addicting and fun.

I can't wait to get into this fucker. Was a little preoccupied earlier...
I took MW3 up to GameStop, handed it in, and slapped down Skyrim. The dude at the counter got all happy. I think he was probably a /b/tard. I was gonna ask him for Battletoads, but he was so fucking genuine I didn't wanna spoil it.
Walked outta there spending $27 on it.
-
I got Skyrim and so far I think oblivion/ morrowwind is better, Its plays too much like i'm on a console, and starting off kinda slow, Does it get alot better? if not I'm gonna get bored, So far I killed the first dragon

I'm having fun with Skyrim, but yeah definitely is more console friendly. These types of games are often a bit slow, but I am enjoying it so far.
-
I played a ton of Morrowind, a little bit of Oblivion, and haven't bothered with Skyrim.
Morrowind is still my favorite.
-
Coming from my perspective, I don't mind it slow. I have absolutely *zero* gaming experience. So, it's taking me a while to figure out everything like the maps, appropriate times to use the potions and when to eat.
Normally, I'd expect something more straightforward, where you just bash your way through everything. This is entirely different. It requires a lot of fuckin' around.
The developer of this game - who was completely familiar with all things in the game - took about 65 hours to "run through it" with no side-missions.
For me, it should take thousands of hours - or at least many hundreds.
I blundered my way up to "level two" last night, somehow.. taking it for a test ride. And ended up in jail, with all my shit seized.
So today, I completely re-started it from scratch, redesigned my dude, using different techniques, knowing a little better how I can operate in this world.
I think it's awesome. There is just so much shit, and ways to behave, I still can't wrap my head around it entirely. But I'm getting better.
This is gonna be so sick when I'm more proficient and leveled-up to being a bad-ass motherfucker...
Playing on PS3. I'm way up in the mountains, a few hours in from the opening sequence. Didn't even reach the first town yet. I'm absolutely blown away.

What kind of characters are yall running on skyrim? I usually play a 2 handed sword wielding battle mage, But doesn't work too well on skyrim since i cant cast while using a 2 handed weapon.
Skyrim seems geared towards mages due to dual wield magic, so i think im going to restart character all mage

I don't think this stuff through too much in advance. Sometimes it works and sometimes it bites me in the ass. I like rogue-type stuff (picking locks, sneaking) but also like magic, so I'm combining the two. Means I won't get all-powerful in anything, but I'm more versatile.
I'm almost to level 11, bought a horse (waste of money if you travel with companions, since they have to walk, but yay - horse!) and a house, which was worth every dime. Spent one entire "day" (in-game), rearranging my house, then came back to find shit thrown everywhere, like it had been tossed. Hopefully the new video driver (specifically for Skyrim) I installed will take care of that. I'm about to go back in, so I'll find out if that fixed the problem. I'm taking every book I can get without stealing, and am filling the shelves like mad. (Best part of the house, IMO, after the chests where you can store tons of stuff.)
-

Melee can wield dual single handed weapons yo.
Also, if you work up your stamina you can last longer in a fight than a mage.
I'm playing Destruction/Restoration+Sneaking around shit.
Lockpicking is great for dungeon delving and wizards are always fun for me.
Little known Shawfact - I played the same D&D character from the age of 16 to 28, with the same group of guys. Thursday nights and Sundays from around noon to 9pm. Twelve years. We played a fairly conservative campaign (No Monty Hall bullshit) and I retired Hexus Dominar at the ripe old level of 24. He was a Lawful Neutral Necromancy specialist. I could write five or six books out of his adventures if I weren't so embarrassed at the idea.
-
Would you say that Lawful Neutral is the most "libertarian" alignment?
-
I'm using a brown haired guy, one hand axe, one hand shield. Heavy armor! Also, like the longbow.
So far, this guy is just a warrior, and I'm gonna keep him that way a while. Get him buff, so people don't keep slaughtering me.
After a while, I'll up the magic side, 'cause I think I'll enjoy that. But it's confusing to me, so brawn first.
-
ya, but I like 2 handed weapons :P, But I think I'm going to do shouts with 2 hander w/ stamina
And I think true neutral would be Libertarian, lawful would obey all laws, like ones on weed :) 8)
-
Would you say that Lawful Neutral is the most "libertarian" alignment?
And I think true neutral would be Libertarian, lawful would obey all laws, like ones on weed :) 8)
Naw. Chaotic good is the closest thing to a libertarian alignment. Do the right thing, fuck rules and rule makers and FUCK THE MAN.
I played a character that was different than I am in real life, because doing something different than what you know and are is sorta the whole point of role playing/acting/make pretend.
Originally I played Hexus as "Neutral selfish", which is a jokey version of neutral evil. (It said neutral evil on his character sheet) He could generally be trusted but when a Big Bad occasionally threw out the inevitable offer of "Betray your friends and join me MWAHAHA" everyone would turn and look at me expectantly and I'd say "WHAT?!?!" but of course he would never betray his peeps.
After about five years of playing him that way he had a change of heart over several serious events. Had to take the XP hit for an alignment change.
Of course he was the comic relief character of the group so he never got too serious. Hexus was probably the only character in D&D history who:
1. Sold snake oil out of a wagon, only the snake oil was a phylactary and potion pre made to turn someone into a Lich. (DRINK THE JUICE AND LIVE FOREVER, YEAH, SOME BITS'LL FALL OFF BUT WHATEVS)
2. Teleported himself onto the back of a (Flying) Great Wyrm white dragon and cast Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting on it. (S'a badass spell and did 22d8+some metamagic damage.) Spell does damage by sucking all the water out of an area of effect, turning living things into beef jerky. He then proceeded to ride the now very dead dragon all the way down to the ground, climb out of the splattered mess, and yell "THE GODS ARE ALL CHILDREN AND I DARE ONE TO STRIKE ME DOWN!!!" while dancing "A little jig"
3. (Toward retirement obviously) Had an army (60,000 troops) of friendly talking skeletons.
4. Owned a huge, nine towered magic university (For all the different alignments so there'd be no horseplay in the dining room) that he one day up and decided to dig out of the ground and slap 12 Spelljamming furnaces into so he could tool around in a floating/flying magic school. It was half a mile across and blotted out the sun. Occasionally caused misunderstandings when he'd noodle into town.
5. Was married to a high priestess of Loviatar, Mistress of Pain. They basically acted like the Addams family, affable and friendly but lots of skeleton motif shit and skeletal servants and putting each other on the rack all that sorta jazz.
6. Had a kid who died at the age of five from an illness. They bound his soul to a skeleton so he could stick around. Was Hexus's wacky snarky sidekick on adventures.
7. Accidentally destroyed a fair chunk of downtown Waterdeep, made reparations with Blackstaff (Head Wizard in charge over there) and so annoyed through attitude, then flipped him an extra gold coin and winked at him, that this 30 oddish level archmage mayor president governor bossman chased him through the streets wacking him with a staff screaming for him never to return.
So anyway yeah, Chaotic Good is libertarian.
-
I agree that Chaotic Good -can be- Libertarian. But so are several other alignments. LG? Well what if your laws are set in stone family rules (N.A.P. and other libertarian ideas?). Same for LE. CN is someone who just wants to be free from repression. NE is more tough to fit into the ideas of libertarianism however.
-
Would you say that Lawful Neutral is the most "libertarian" alignment?
And I think true neutral would be Libertarian, lawful would obey all laws, like ones on weed :) 8)
Naw. Chaotic good is the closest thing to a libertarian alignment. Do the right thing, fuck rules and rule makers and FUCK THE MAN.
I used to think of lawful as contrary to libertarianism, but it's open to a lot of interpretation. Someone who sees the NAP as the highest law of the land could look at most leaders, just as we do, as tyrants violating the universal law. And you could lean either way. A lawful neutral libertarian character might be obsessive about the nap. A little girl steps on his flowers and he blows her away feeling completely justified. A lawful good character would be promoting charity and chivalry and all that shit, but strictly unwilling to violate the NAP in his tactics. A lawful evil character might be Satanish, making deals with people and never ever telling a lie or using violence, but always out to exploit contracts for his personal benefit and resorting to the NAP for his defense after screwing someone, pulling out mounds of paperwork, witnesses, etc. to show that he's clean as a whistle as far as the law goes.
-
We played a fairly conservative campaign (No Monty Hall bullshit) and I retired Hexus Dominar at the ripe old level of 24.
My first campaign was fairly munchkiny, sadly. I knew it at the time too and even tried to address it with the DM on multiple occasions. I was introduced to D&D by a VERY conservative DM who educated me about munchkin gaming early on. This was a campaign where I was sighing a lot but ultimately I bit the bullet due to such limited choices.
The main story arc of the game was about obtaining certain very powerful artifacts, so powerful that they ended up defining everything about your character. Your choices in the game seemed almost incidental. I kept somehow missing the games when they would actually find the artifacts so I was the last character in the game who wasn't weilding some obscene item. I ended up being given the opportunity to become a bard in addition to being a magic-user which was a house rule of the DM regarding multiple classes and I quickly accumulated levels as a figher, thief, and then finally a bard. I was a fairly obnoxious character who could do a little bit of almost everything to not have an all-mighty artifact.
I was CG, and I recall expressing repeatedly how much I hated lawful alignments. It just felt insanely restrictive like wearing a corset or something. So then the DM introduces the fucking STAFF OF LAW, the most munchkiny and obnoxious artifact he has ever created. Guess who got the insanely powerful artifact that, right off the bat, changes your alignment to fucking lawful neutral!
I swear to you this DM just liked to fuck with me. He would push me as far as I would let him and then finally give in by leaps and bounds to keep me from quitting his game. I swear my teen years were a lesson in fully participating in my rights to free association. I felt like these were the only friends I would ever have. It was painful to finally admit that these weren't relationships worth putting effort into keeping. They are maintained almost purely for nostalgic reasons, and the DM passed from cancer some years back.

For any of you who might want to know, I'm pretty sure that the full version of Minecraft will be released this afternoon.
-
Yeah, Minecraft is cool. There should be a liberty server or something.

<< Cracks a smile, sips coffee.

Anyhoo..
Skyrim, day three:
I kicked a lot of ass last night. The body count is racking up. I'm at level six from side missions, defeated a lot of bad mofo's in dark places, and got some enchanted broadsword that ruins your day. Its pretty awesome.
I'm stacking all my level-ups and perks on the armor and one-handed fighting, and shield. Since I'm all thumbs it helps prevent getting smoked by little girls and big rats.
Starting to tweek to how the maps work directing me to missions, so I don't spend forever wandering aimlessly in the woods.
I liked Mel's comment about how she bought a house, I gotta look into that.
I'm gonna start leveling up onto the magic side a little bit now. Maybe every other one.
-
I liked Mel's comment about how she bought a house, I gotta look into that.
The houses are great (I have 1 but you can have 5-7 (not sure of the number)). Being allowed to buy one is a quest reward. Since vendors are limited as to how much cash they have on hand, and don't buy everything, you can run home between gigs, dump everything in a chest, and deal with it later. Mine (in Whiterun - go see the Jarl) came with a housecarl (body guard) who goes with me on quests. She's pretty decent with a bow and one-handed/shield. She also serves as a packmule - you can make her carry up to about 300 pounds minus whatever she's equipped with.
It's an investment that can help you make more money because you can empty your packs and go back out, then deal with selling whenever. Once you upgrade the house (do it in stages, room-by-room) you get extra chests, dressers, etc., plus bookshelves, so you can sort your stuff accordingly. I'm a packrat, and this is the best thing EVER for me. I get a bunch of ingots or gems, I don't want to carry them everywhere. I want to have them when I feel like smithing. Now I have one chest that's just smithing supplies, one for apparel I'm not sure about, one for weapons, one for ingredients (you can get an alchemy room).
I don't know which way to turn with perks right now. I want to enchant, because I made a soul trap sword and it kicks ass and I want to do serious enchantments, but I want to smith and be able to improve already-enhanced weapons and armor. I also like lockpicking a lot.

That is cool. I'm gonna name my bodyguard George Carlin, because he comes with a Place For My Stuff.
I'll be studying the enchanting more in depth later, once I'm not so nooby.
All of this vernacular is very foreign to me. I never liked the D+D stuff, so a lot of the concepts aren't immediately recognizable. Like, John probably "gets it" quite easily. I don't.
It sorta reminds me of the Afghan war, and VietNam, not knowing who is the enemy because it's all in a foreign tongue.
But doing two-fisted Frost, at level nine-thousand.. Fuck Yeah.
At this point, I'm still reeling with the controller. I get into a fight and it starts going all nuts because my hands aren't doing what my brain says. I look at the skill of the YouTube fights with pure awe.

I'm playing basically the same style as you are. I have a sick ass bow too, but my archery level is only like 23 and my one handed is 52! So it's no question that I'm going to charge in dual wielding a war axe and a mace, or a shield. I have my orc all pimped out in custom crafted heavy armor too. I feel like I'm getting to the point where I'm going to have to refocus on some of my weaker skills though so I can keep levelling quickly (I'm at level 15 right now). Now I gotta find another dragon to slay so I can activate another shout spell, this one is fire breathing.

Taking a little break. Went back to the little town where I got assigned the Golden Claw mission. Stole all their cabbages.
Never killed a dragon yet.

Earlier on this thread, someone recommended Dungeon Crawl.
Thanks, it's a nice NetHAck replacement.
I never liked slash'em because it was less about gameplay and more about doing anything "because we can"
Crawl (stone soup edition) is good gameplay, good complexity, and thank god they didn't remap too many keys so it was easy for a NetHacker to pick up. Plus the fact that it's still in active development is good.

Depends on types of games you play. Strategy type games that involve movement of armies, role playing, complex movement combinations and commands, I'd go with a PC. First person shooters and stuff like that, I go with PS3.

My Q and E would show more wear. I use the A and D for strafing.
On that note, I'm back in WoW after a 4 year absence. The gay guild has gotten even bigger. It's pretty much the predominant guild on the Proudmoore server now. It long ago outgrew the 500 character limit and they worked around it by making multiple guilds and linking them with addons. Before I rejoined the guild, I got a recruitment offer from a totally unrelated guild that opened with "We are LGBT-friendly". That's the impact that the gay guilds have had on that server. They have impacted the market there.
My account was banned and I had to call to figure out what was going on. A real person picked up in less than a minute and had my account back up. Apparently it got hacked a year ago. My toons were still there but were naked and their money gone. Two main toons still had their bank items intact though. The thief was a bit lazy. It was too late for them to fix it but it was mostly pretty trivial damage in the big scheme of things. The amount of money I had has since been made less a big deal by inflation after expansions and new levels and I had mostly new gear in no time.

Thanks for all your answers guys - I was hoping I could play good games on pc.
Does this mean you're a lefty Shaw?
-
If your PC is, shall we say, lacking balls... I'd recommend the PS3.
If your PC is running on rocket fuel, by all means use the PC.
My PC was a custom build from a geek store, but I opted for the econo version. I just wanted the box so I could swap out parts when they die.
I don't like to update drivers and incompatibility issues. With the PS3, you don't have to bother with any of that. It'll run games, period. There are occasions where it'll need a standardized update, you just plug it into the Net and it'll do its magic.
--
Heres the basic 'skinny' on the PC vs. PS3 debate..
If you have a commonly available PC that you bought from a store, about a year old and it cost somewhere less than $500, it probably will not play "hot" games.
If you wanted to upgrade that PC to play the hottest new games, it'll probably cost you at least $200, if not more. Dual core, and good graphics card. RAM.
The resident geeks can speak more precisely on this, depending on your make and model specs.
The difference is, a brand new PS3 costs about $250, cut and dried, plug-n-play. No bullshit required.
So, thats where you have to make your personal decisions.
Personally, I thought it was money well spent to get the PS3 console, not only to prevent much anguish in upgrades, but also to prevent many hundreds of hours of hi-stress computing on my PC. I don't want my PC to die, and then I'd be completely "in the dark."
-
All of that. ^
I'm just too lazy to explain myself today. :?
Thank you.

If you're comparing them on the basis of cost though, isn't it easier to torrent games for a PC and isn't the games where they make all their money on consoles? I think they sometimes even take a loss on the consoles to get people into that extremely lucrative game market. You also have to consider that most people have a PC these days anyway so it's just a matter of spending more on a cost they already have which could be useful for their other things.
-
Does this mean you're a lefty Shaw?
Nope. Move with left hand, mouse aim and shoot with right hand.
IT IS THE STANDARD BY WHICH ALL FPS'S ARE MEASURED.
I can be ambidextrous if I think about it though.

Some games you already can. I believe DC Universe Online is multi platform.
They tried to cross platform Halo 2 with PC-XBOX but the PC gamers completely demolished the XBOX players to the point that they couldnt even consider balancing it out.

I believe they're going to attempt cross-platform gaming with Counter Strike: Global Offensive. I can't imagine how they plan to balance it out. CS has some extremely practiced and hardcore fans on the PC. Unless the console versions have a built-in aimbot there is no way they'll be competitive.

I wouldn't think it would be too difficult for Sony to add mouse and keyboard functionality for gaming. They already support it for web browsing. They would just have to add gaming support to the next firmware update.

The problem with aim bots is "to be fair" the PC fans would just install an aimbot as well. Ive done it on games before, it isnt too difficult.

Next step, make a bot that plays the game for you, completely. You just sit back with a hot cup of cocoa and cheer your PC on.

Been sitting in a dentists chair a lot this week, getting the teeth back on track. Decided to try and take my mind off the pain with some new games. Picked up Drake’s Fortune 3, Dead Island and Skyrim. Put Skyrim into the PS3 and haven’t played other games since. I played Oblivion, loved it, and now Skyrim is here. I usually need to see something funny as hell or new and wonderful as far as game play goes to play these huge open games. I loved the Fallout series, especially going on the alien ship and destroying the little grey people, and then the historical people from the cryro chamber, LMFAO! Loved Just Cause 2, more for the tropical scenes that made me feel all warm in the winter.
But Skyrim, wow, awesome! I became a Redguard and am treated like garbage because I’m not a Nord. I go for magic, light armour and swords/daggers. Trying out blacksmithing, lots of interesting stuff to do in Skyrim. I’m tending to go with the rebel scum, to hell with the empire. I’m at level 21, still won’t go after giants. Then there’s the trolls, ya know, even when you flame them they still come back to bug you, bloody trolls. Bought the house in Whiterum (that’s what I would be drinking like water if I lived there), what a godforsaken place. Discovered the city of Solitude, working up to buy the $25,000 house there. People there are stuck up though, guess I’ll fit in. The graphics for Skyrim kick butt, much better than Oblivion, orcs actually look scary instead of like Shrek. Killed myself 9 dragons now, got the companion Lydia but she’s a bit of a wimp. She’s died on me a few times and no matter how much I lay my hands on her body and pray to the God’s, she won’t come back to life, why can’t I just whistle her lovely bottom back to life like I could with my horse in Red Dead Redemption?
Found Sheogorath in one mission and got his Wabbajack, what a great weapon. Not sure what the exact levels for armour are, I’m currently going all elven. In Oblivion near the beginning (level 10) you could go get some amber armour and a sword for soul catching from Umbra, not sure if someone like her exists in Skyrim. Love the new settings, Solitude on a cliff face, going over the waterfalls, ruins I don’t need torches or other light to explore, the freakin Arctic in a video game, cool, just don’t go toe to toe with the mutant walrus.

Have spent entirely too much time sitting in the car, waiting for one or another of my kidlets to emerge from any number of extra curricular activities, which has left me no time to cuddle up to the xbox 360. It has given me tons of time for Words with Friends and two other iphone apps...

Been poking around with the ENBseries patch for Skyrim. Trying to build a post process look for personal use. Want it to look more cinematic than vanilla Skyrim. Also playing with subsurface scattering. Here's what I came up with today:

Top is vanilla, bottom is SHAWSCOPE. Will prolly keep playing around with it but I think it looks better.
-
I've got 3 games on the go at the moment. They are Final Fantasy 9, Pokemon Heartgold and God of War.
I hear FF9 is a game I should play. Goes back to old school FF.

I pre-ordered Rage for the PS3 a long time ago, but never opened it until yesterday.
And holy shit is it an awesome game. The graphics are absolutely outstanding. The sky and surrounding mountains/valleys look totally real, while the characters, guns, and buildings look cartoonish (in an artistic, fun way.)
I haven't played more than an hour or so, but so far its really fun. I strongly recommend Rage and I think Amazon has it for $30 or so.
-
Skyrim main quest completed.
Steam says 263.6 hrs. Probably give or take 50 hours of me pausing the game and doing something else.
I am level 65. You can get to 80 if you grind all of your skills to 100.
Holy fuck what a game. Will prolly set it down and replay it in a while.
One poignant moment - My Dead Thrall (A permanent zombie summon) was waiting by one of the king's sides just hanging out after I returned from the end game scenario. She'd been with me for many game hours, along with a gal named Brelyna from the wizard's college.
She never had a name. She was a random high powered vampire who I aced and flippantly decided to bring back as a ZOMBIE VAMPIRE. She was... fucking amazingly ass kicking. I was attacked by two random dragons at the same time, and she managed to kill one of them herself.
So anyway, after completing the main questline tonight, I actually started to feel bad for this lady. I mean, bummer fucking life, right? She was just some chick walking along and BAM, some asshole vampire biteded her and she spent who knows how many years living like an animal in a dungeon, only to have me come along and fuck up what little she had left by not only killing her, but then bringing her back as a slave.
And fuck yeah she was totally conscious of it all. Once in a while during battle she would moan "I must kill you..." as she stomped the ever living shit out of some badguy.
So after the main quest, Brelyna and I walked her over to a cairn near a fairly splendid looking dungeon exterior called Labrynthia. I disenchanted the summon and put her to rest in a small stone dome, crossing her arms over her chest.
Almost got choked up and felt sad for pixels tonight.
In summation: WORTH 60 BUCKS.
The unnamed vampire in her final resting place. Brelyna standing over her. Thank you nameless vampire girl. Q_Q

A followup. She's resting behind that dome on the left. *Sniff* A dragon is doing a flyby and giving his respects in the upper right.

Epilogue -
And that young man went on to marry Brelyna, even though the bags under her eyes had bags of their own. She had a good heart and a winning personality. He wore his clothing of office as was expected. She chose to carry a large battle axe for no particular reason, considering that she is totally unskilled in its use and is a wizard by trade. (wtf) Maybe it was a gentle warning about the marriage vows.
And they lived happily ever after, he, sitting by the hearth, while she made and sold potions, even though they had almost 150k Septims to retire on. THE END.

And for the record, I chose to marry her in the end because of this:

Thats cool.
I'm still learning to wield magic in one hand, and a sword in the other. Its pretty frustrating.
I get confused because I don't read all the bullshit.
-
Love your fairytale ending to the story, Shaw.
Skyrim is on my christmas wish list, but I'm not sure Mr. Joy believes me when I said I wanted it, after how disappointed I was with Fable III, the last game I asked for.
-
Skyrim is a very "big" game, Joy.
Personally, I plan to spend about two years on it. I don't think I'll ever "finish" it.
That doesn't mean I don't like it.
Its a universe. Its a world.
If you want a place to game, basically forever, this is the shit.
People like Shaw will finish it. I hold no illusions of being in the same gamer ability.
-

It sounds like World of Warcraft minus the social element and minus new content regularly being added.
-
It sounds like World of Warcraft minus the social element and minus new content regularly being added.
Very similar in many ways, but let me add some pluses -
Plus better graphics
Plus better and more cohesive story
Plus shittons more freedom to do what you want because there are no character classes (If you want to be good at something, just do it and you get better at it.)
Plus an actual sense of accomplishment when gaining new skills and developing your character
Plus better balanced in regards to how quests are given and what you can and can't do at any particular time - (Specifically how quests aren't locked to your level, and that the game modifies itself on the fly to accommodate your character's level. If you never even go to the town of Shitcock until you get to level 40 or something, all of the quests you get when you go to that place will still be viable and fun, because they will be scaled to your level, rather than being snorefest low level shit.)
Plus advancing your skills will actually get you goodies that are better than what the game world can give you. Specifically blacksmithing and enchanting and alchemy. If you max out those skills you can have 100 points in all three (The max) and make potions in alchemy that temporally increase your skill in blacksmithing that will enhance items to ridiculous quality, and then suck down another potion that can increase your enchanting abilities and combining that with the maxed out enchanting perk so's you can put two powers into a magic item and KAPOW you have frigging artifact weapons that do multiple shit.
Way better than grinding PVP for months to get a set of armor that gives ten more points of stamina. Especially in a game world like WOW where other people will kick you from a group and yell at you for not wearing the "Right" item set or some bullshit.
And finally - Plus not having to deal with the other RL people who in most cases are horrible and nasty. I played WOW for a few years and ended up almost never entering a dungeon or PVP arena or any other group activity because of how obnoxious other people acted. I eventually played with my beloved bride but only two people can't run a dungeon all that well either.
Oh shit, one more plus - No monthly fee. I payed my sixty bones and got more enjoyment out of Skyrim in a month than I did in three or four years on WOW.
-
I haven't bought Skyrim yet, but I will soon.
Haven't even beaten Oblivion or New Vegas. Love first person RPGs.
-
If they added a online dueling arena and maybe a co-op for 1 or 2 people to join your world, or even just join your dungeon, I would say that skyrim might just be the best game ever
-
I haven't got Skyrim yet - I'm a cheap bastard.
I got Just Cause 2 off Amazon for $2.50 (it was a 10gb download) and its hard - haven't played a video game since old Sega shit.
Maybe I need to get a joystick controller to make it easier...
-

I want to play Star Wars - The Old Republic. Unfortunately it won't be available here until March 4th. I tried buying the download from the official site but it won't let me do that either. I'm considering buying it off Amazon but still not sure. I've heard server queues are horrendous, so I probably still wouldn't get to play anyway.
Shaw and Brasky, you've convinced me. Skyrim sounds good. I'll have to give that one a try.

So I go and gets myself to level 32 on Skyrim and the lag starts, oh boy. Went and read the reviews on Amazon, should of did that before springing for the PS3 version of this game. Fuck Bethesda, fucking assholes knew damn well the game had issues on the PS3 but they release it anyways, pricks. Can't really play the game anymore, lag is horrible, crashes happen all the time, it got worse the further I got in the game. This really sucks ass, loved playing it but this lag and crash show really takes the piss. I loved Oblivion and had no problems with it, I wonder if this is a case of a gaming company thinking they are to big to give a fuck, oh will they rue the day. And the patch, yea right, did nothing for me. If you haven't bought Skyrim yet and own a PS3 then don't, the game has issues, heard it's on the X-box as well, but so far so good for the PC. On to playing Dead Island, and, hey, it works.
-
I loved Oblivion and had no problems with it,
Then you must have the normal version of the game. I have the GOTY edition and am stuck being a vampire. Basically, once you are bitten, you cannot go back to being normal. It is a widely known issue on the ps3 and Bethesda doesn't give a fuck.
I mean, how hard is it make a patch for this one little problem? I actually have to buy the normal edition and complete the quest with that version in my console. Fucking ridiculous.
-
Isn't that how vampirism works?
-
If Rage allowed the player to roam freely, it'd be great. As it is now.. it's only good... and really too easy on the "Normal" setting.
-
I guess this is one advantage to not playing enough video games to justify buying them immediately. I'm still playing Final Fantasy XIII...but I think I'm almost done!

I'm still playing on the anarcho-capitalist minecraft server. PM me if you join so I can tell you how to find your way to civilization from spawn, and perhaps my island fortress location far from civilization.
-
The problem with making your base far from civilization is trade. It's hard to bring money from far away to town. You could die and lose it all.

Its worth the trade-off to me. I lost way more to griefers when I was in civilization than I could possibly lose now. Hell even the security of having a farm that nobody will touch is nice.

haha. I guess you're right.
Imagine if someone made a first person shooter that would, in theory, take 10s of hours to beat, BUT once you die, you can never, ever play the game again. You know, so that it's realistic :)
Could you imagine the outrage gamers would have after their $60 game shutdown completely after they died 4 minutes into the campaign?
-
Ordering Skyrim with a holiday amazon gift card. Guess I have 4-5 days of productivity left, before all the time I have after hanging out on Pinterest gets sucked up by the game.

Character customization is awesome in this one. You can make an R. Crumb goth chick if you want.

Thanks for the heads up. I just watched some reviews and I must say that it looks really fun. It seems like they blended tower defense with RPG elements and a heavy dose of action......sounds like a good mix.
Plus, I am a sucker for that type of graphics. I just love the high definition cartoony/bright colored fantasy look. Awesome.
I'll be downloading it later today. And I think its only like $10 on PSN right now.
-
Oh yeah, anyone try the new console version of Crysis 1? I love Crysis 2 and think I'll download C1 from PSN this weekend.
I heard the original was much more of a sandbox than the sequel. And I love FPS's that allow the player to implement different strategies. Personally, I enjoy taking my time with stealth kills and the like.....never leaving an enemy alive prior to moving to the next section/level. And Crysis 2 gave the player a lot of freedom compared to COD or BFBC 2, but it would be great to have even more options.
Plus, doesn't Crysis 1 have destructible environments?
-
Anybody playing Arma 2? This game is pretty realistic. I'm surprised it's not more widely known.
-
Downloaded Dungeon Defenders yesterday and it was only $10 on PSN.
Haven't played it yet, but if anyone wants to give it a go on PS3, let me know.

I have it on xbox but there should be plenty of people online to play it with you already, But a tip is Work on your Turret strength and turret health Primarily at first and make sure you keep your turrets healed, your regular attacks will suck until u get a good weapon, but otherwise Get equipment to buff your turrets further

Been playing GTA3 on my new Transformer Prime.
It's fucking badass to play that game on a tablet. Controls are actually great.

Are you actually playing on the tablet or is it streaming for computer to tablet? and pics please lol, I'm wondering how good it looks and plays

Thanks for the advice, atomiccat. I shall focus on my turrets and health.
Any thoughts on what class I should choose? (My understanding is that there are 4 classes with different abilities.)

It runs from the tablet. Widescreen, 1280x800. Same poly count as PC version with improved textures. You can actually hook the tab up to your pc and browse for the config files and turn graphics up to even higher quality. Motion blur, etc.
60 frames a second.
From a poly standpoint is barely pushes the Tegra 3.
As for pics, I can do ya one better -
ASUS Transformer Prime - sesiune de gaming - Tegra 3 si Android 4.0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0h-G6OAjjE#)
Battery lasted about seven hours playing it non stop the other night, which is pretty great considering that the tablet usually goes for around 9.5 for general use. So it's barely heating the thing up.
Check out Shadowgun on the prime for serious graphics -

Squire and mage are best for turrets/baricades and easiest to play Squire gets barricades that block and damage enemies as they come close and Harpoon and cannon ball turrets and mage gets magic missle, fireball, Lighting and a Slow high damage turret. The AOE turrets( fireball and lighting/ bouncing and slicing blockade are the best just place them On or around Choke points and Defend and heal them and you should do fine.
The Monk and huntress are harder to play, monks place auras and huntress places traps, they don't block enemies so you need some good damage or someone else placing Blockades in along with traps/auras or turrets for max efficiency And they take a lot of maintenance, Because they take damage as they are used against enemy instead of them being directly damage by the enemy.
Imo the best upgrades are
Squire is best tanking and having turrets that have high health and high damage
Mage, High turret damage, and aoe and get a staff that shoots more then 1 projectile otherwise its basically useless, unless its being used to buff your turrets
Huntress needs a mix of aoe , health and damage for traps and some damage and speed for attacks
Monk needs a mix of everything you can go pure dps/health and use auras as a minor support or a mix or auras and dps which is what i do since i tend to play a support role healing and placing auras in choke areas to hinder and hurt enemies, and Strength drain aura is basically useless unless you are going dps and placing it right in area u are fighting in
and for all a little casting speed always helps unless you are going dps without turrets
-
Thanks, buddy. Seems like the game is pretty complex for being a cheap download.
Reading all of your advice actually makes me eager to begin.
-
For the last 2 or so weeks I've been playing Skyrim. Great game, although I think I completed the main quest line too early. I think I might start a new character as I've got my current one kind of wandering around wondering what to do. Got my guy married and got the store going but yeh haven't been up to much in the game since kicking Alduin's arse.
-
Wow, Dungeon Defenders is the shit. I am having a hell of a time playing this game.....and its fucking hard.
I am about to read some strategy online, cause I'm only on the third level and the last wave is kicking my ass (on medium difficulty).
After I learn what I'm doing, then I'll play online. But right now, I'm just a stupid noob getting handled by enemies.
And Atomiccat, what does "aoe" mean?
-
"aoe"
Area of effect.

Haha.....I never know what the fuck gamers are talking about.
"MMORGP on DEFCON 4 gigabit 220 SDI interface > GMO foods!"
What?

Just ordered Resistance 3 on Amazon. I forgot about this game until today, but I looked up some reviews and it seems like its pretty fun. I remember that the first two were great shooters. Its always fun to shoot aliens.
And, yes, I'm still playing dungeon defenders. It's the shit. For real, its the best $10-$15 game I've ever played. And I haven't even played online yet cause I'm having too much fun leveling up my characters.
Anyone played LA Noire? Was it as fun as GTA or RDR?

Damn!
I need to make a game.
MIKE'S TOTALLY RAD TIC-TAC-TOE
Pretty simple concept. I make a tic-tac-toe board with Microsoft Paint and send it out to everyone, you open the file and add your X'es and O's accordingly, then email the paint file to whoever you are playing against and they edit it from their end and send it back to you.
I wonder how much I could fetch.

Reload. Kickstarted is getting it's ass kicked right now over this one. They're near the top of Reddit right now and people are lining up to give them money. They seem to be getting about 20k every ten minutes or so.

I started playing some Tribes: Ascend this weekend. It's a FPS game (remember Starsiege: Tribes?) that is taking the free-to-play/freemium model. You can purchase some gear upgrades or gain them through "experience" by playing the game. Overall, it's very fun.

After playing Skyrim for weeks on end, i finally got tired of it. Playing New Vegas now, it def has high replay value.
-
My son just started on that Skyrim. I am even more clueless on whats going on in that one then usual.
-
It will probably get "Game of the year", which means it was awesome. It is a free roam game where you live and interact in a massive, fictional, middle earth type world. You may choose to do evil, good or a little of both. He will be playing it for a LONG time, lol.
That being said, one of the main parts of the game is liberty oriented. You must choose one of 2 sides. One is the Imperial Empire: They have intergrated themselves and their culture into a land that is not theirs, but that they want for strategical purposes. They have also forbidden the natives from worshiping their own gods and some other rituals. The other side is the liberty side, the Stormcloaks: They are rebelling against the Empire because they want to live their lives the way they choose, not what others choose. Seeing any paralells? Ask your son who he chose and why, it might lead to an interesting discussion.
Or i said way to much and you wanted a shorter answer lol, its a really good game.
-
Except the stormcloaks are racist... Oh right.
Anyway, after finishing the main quest of skyrim I realized it was all just the same combat in slightly different settings. I stopped playing. Maybe the civil war line is worth it, but I don't know.
It is interesting to explore though, so It's a fine game. Just time for me to stop after some time.
-
Yeah i got sick of it after a while. I like the Bethesda's Fallout series as well. Any game where i can run around freely, looting the aristocrats and/or assholes, i will play and enjoy. Fable is a little to restrained for me.
-
I usually take game advice from P&TG. I bought my kid Red Dead Redemption thanks to Puke. I was even ready for the avatar switch. My son actually came from his room crying and I knew what to say.
I was going to run with GrossObeseBugEyed (change that will ya)'s advise. Then Nick chimed in and confused me.

Android Games: Tap Fish, Contract Killer: Zombies. Mac Game: Every few months I work on my character on the Open Source MMORPG Deliantra. That is an extremely involved game based on Crossfire but has so much content that it is very difficult to get to it all. I've got a character that I work on every few months that has a billion and a half experience points and I'm only at lvl 80. But I'm at the 101st position on the high score chart, so basically I need to get a life.

Star Wars : The Old Republic. When it was finally released over here in early March, I bought it and basically haven't played anything else. Its caused me to get a little more anti-social than I usually am.
-
Yeah, when I start playing a game that I really like, it is certainly an amplifier for anti-social behavior.
