What do ya think of my generation?
« on: September 26, 2010, 12:06:52 AM »

I know a number of folks on this board are older folks, so I'd be interested to know what you individuals think of us millenials. I am in no position to make a good opinion, as I live among them.

WTF is a "millenial"? I assume it does NOT mean you were born in this millennium. :(

I'm 19.

Quote
Generation Y, also known as the Millennial Generation, Generation Next, Playstation Generation or Net Generation , describes the demographic cohort following Generation X. Its members are often referred to as Millennials or Echo Boomers. As there are no precise dates for when the Millennial generation starts and ends, commentators have used birth dates ranging somewhere from the mid-1970s to the early 2000s. Members of this generation are called Echo Boomers, due to the significant increase in birth rates between 1982-1995, and because most of them are children of baby boomers. The 20th century trend toward smaller families in developed countries continued, however, so the relative impact of the "baby boom echo" was generally less pronounced than the original boom.

A perennial  lives durning the growing season, then dies, then comes back again in the spring. Im guessing a Millennial lives then dies, then comes back 1000 years later.

"What do ya think of my generation?"

I don't. I have a vague hope that it's an improvement on previous ones.

Gen X was fucking fail, and that's where I came from, FWIW.

Of course, generations are collectivist speak anyhow. Babies are born every day and it's not a series of separated waves like people want us to believe.

Exactly what day did you have to be born on to no longer be a baby boomer and become a Gen X? Were people born the day before that still baby boomers?

Bullshit.

Anyway, all that being said, my view of the average 19 year old is the standard - Snot faced know it all brats with an overblown sense of entitlement. Just like every 19 year old throughout history. Same as me when I was 19, same as *INSERT NAMES HERE*

25-28 or so is when people's opinions start to drift away from bullshit and their brain starts to settle down from puberty induced idiocy.

Age 32 = Einstein received his PhD
Age 33 = Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence
Age 25 = James Watson co-discovered the structure of DNA
Age 37 = Francis Crick at the time of same
Age 31 = Adam Smith published The Theory of Moral Sentiments
Age 37 = David Hume, A Treatise of Human Nature
Age 31 = Marie Curie discovered radiation

I guess I'm still in puberty induced idiocy, sweet man. I've got no problem with that ageism.

I look at the Baby Boomers that way. They show a increadable sense of entitlement I don't see in other age groups. I am disappointed by people, in my own age group and over, more than under 25s. Younger people are often surprised, and appreciative about by my liferule pertaining to respect. I have had people tell me kids straighten up and fly right around me, so maybe I have a different perspective.

I think you're fucked.  Also, I dig the old school skateboards I saw all over a college campus recently.

I guess I am part of "Gen Y" or whatever the fuck you call it, being that I was born in 1977.

If we're going to do this collectivist thing, then here's the way I see it:

The Baby Boomers are violence-loving bigots who won't change their ways

Gen X is just feeding off the lies the Boomers fed to them, because the Boomers' parents fed them the same lies.

Gen Y is waking up, but are too dumbed down to do anything about it

Whatever the fuck the next generation is named has a slight chance of being more awake and aware of wtf is going on.

Regardless of all this collectivism shit, EVERYONE needs to wake the fuck up and realize that the "dream" is over.  It's just a nightmare that is being dragged on and on.  Re-examine your fucking priorities and figure out that tv entertainment rots your brain and is just another form of control, much the same as religion is, for the government.

Actually, you're a solid Gen X, care to redefine? Heheh.

Also, the Gen X claim to fame is not giving a shit about anything, rather than towing the boomer line. Apathy and slackerdom is Gen X.
