We are a nation ruled by arbitrary man.
First:
While in office our elected "representatives" can pass any law they wish. There is no check on the laws passed at this stage.
-Men can pass any law: Man 1 - Law 0
Second:
The laws are not checked until someone breaks the law.This will take very courageous individuals because to break the law is to invite danger on your self and your family.
-We must break the law before it can be checked: Man 2 - Law 0
Third:
The trial over the law must be appealed to successively higher courts until reaching the supreme court. But - The appeal process isn't automatic. The trial must be given permission to move up the rungs of the court system.
-The trial against the law must be given permission by Men to proceed: Man 3 - Law 0
Fourth:
At the highest level the law is finally tried against the constitution. Ah, but the constitution itself is naught but a "living" doument. As supreme court members are replaced by new members they may interpret and re-interpret the constitution as they see fit. And the final decision is made by a vote.. Tyrannous democracy rears its head once again.
-The law is compared against a document which is itself re-interpreted by Men over and over and the final decision comes down to a vote: Man 5 - Law 0
It must be obvious that Law (something immutable and true everywhere) does not rule us; instead, it's the arbitrary rules made up by an arbitrary group of men that rules us.
