as dale said, and went over some heads, it wasn't a protest.  Police came, and their aggression turned it into a protest.

Hanging out in the middle of town drinking beer and smoking weed is just that. Nothing "went over my head". If you want to hang out in the middle of town and drink beer and smoke weed in open defiance of local laws, it isn't "protesting" when the cops show up. It is just bitching about getting arrested for thumbing your nose at the community.

Who's community? Aren't the people who were hanging out with a beer part of the community? How does one thumb one's nose at oneself?

A community is represented by the laws they have enacted, and openly breaking those laws in the middle of town is definitely thumbing your nose at them.

Who is "They" ? I am pretty sure the people who got arrested didn't enact any laws.

If you choose to live in a community you are subject to the laws that it has enacted, it doesn't matter if you participated in their formation.

I am "subject" to nothing or no one but myself as long as I am not harming someone or their property. This is what is right and moral.

Morality is not created by jumping just because a trained monkey with a gun and a cage told me to jump.

This is what is right... not jumping just because a trained monkey with a gun and a cage tells me to jump.

Claiming you are not subject to laws doesn't make it a reality,if you actually believe that it simply makes you delusional.

There are two ways of stopping the hypocrisy. Hopefully these brave protesters will get their point across, and honest cops and bureaucrats will win the day for shear self preservation. I grew up with survivalist, if these people ever get together and decide to change things, it will be messy. (and don't feed me that government has a monopoly on violence crap. The LA riots proved what a angry mob of welfare cheats are capable of when focused and pissed off enough, just imagine a angry mob of ex solders and small business men) All they need is the right unifying agent. So I appreciate the efforts of peaceful protesters.

I don't think that happens nearly as much in reality as it does in gay porn.

Just to clarify things I would like to say that I personally disagree with around 99% of all laws that exist in this country. This does not make me or anyone else "not subject" to them just because I don't approve. As far as the exact subject of this thread , I think that the principle of Civil Disobedience is a sound one, but the tactics used here had the effect of making the Free State / Free Keeners look like a bunch  derelicts that just don't want to be a part of "civil society". The FS & FK movements are a tiny fraction of the NH and Keene populations, and the only way to implement any meaningful change towards what is viewed as a freer society is to gain the support of the general population. Hanging out in the park smoking weed and drinking beer will get used against the "movement" every time by the Powers That Be. In order for Civil Disobedience  and Protest to work you need to carefully choose the battles and tactics to make people see your side of things. Simply getting arrested for breaking laws that most people at least implicitly agree with is counter productive and calling it "protest" is quite a stretch indeed.

And yet the antics of the Free Keene crowd turn you off?
Par for the course. Free Keene are the group better than anyone else at LOSING hearts and minds, at making enemies of the people who should be their allies.

It is a matter of time before their experiment in no-responsibility libertine-ism becomes less and less attractive, even to those who drank the kool-aide

And if it does, it's consensual.
