Using no public services = no tax?
« on: December 11, 2010, 11:51:55 PM »

Some people go into hiding, go to live in the middle of nowhere to get away from the government. Why do they bother trying to find them? What about people making their own villages.. they don't use ANY public "services" so why should they have to pay taxes at all? I guess they just don't want people to know that they can do that? Because then a lot more people would do it.

Was there something in the news about this recently?

Yeah, some old dude in Madison County Indiana went off the grid and lived in a trailer with no running water or electric, on his own land by the way. The county evicted him because they claimed he was a danger to his own well being and blah blah blah.

No shit?

Is there more to the story? There must be tons of people who live like that.

Happens around here.  People go live in state parks and federal land and form little villages (usually centered around drug abuse) and get rounded up and arrested a few times a year.

Yeah I know about that stuff, but Mike said this guy was on his own land.

More proof that the government is just a group of men and women offering services at the barrel of a gun.

Interesting story Mike; thanks for the link.

Not having electricity or running water is against the law there? Wow, I've never heard of that, at least here in NYS. I suppose having a septic tank probably is required here now.

Otherwise, local zoning ordinances can work for you or against you, depending on the situation.

-- HOWEVER --

I am acutely opposed to having zoning rules enforced by a coercive, political government, and if you're living out away from anybody you should be able to live however you please. As usual, for a coercive political government, "one size fits all."

So true.

Probably the only time I've ever agreed with a communist is when Mao Tse-tung said: "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun."

I even tried going to the Madison County website to send them a thank you email for keeping these dirty, filthy, stinky, sweaty, fucking skanky animal/people from just living out in the wilderness on their own property.

Alas, they dont list a contact email. Imagine that.
