Use of an Anarchic Model
« on: August 22, 2010, 06:45:08 AM »

The English language is a strange thing. Its letters are 6-degrees of separation from Phonecian, its almost entirely unconjugated, and spelling rules are ignored for 20% of words. English developed through Roman conquest, Frank rule, and Saxon intermingling, but stopped with the advent of the printing press.

To get the ball rolling again, I suggest something that will not ever happen: to introduce an anarchic model of English on the internet where pedantry will not be recognized. That would allow English to advance as long as no further models come to impede its way.

I see the English language as being in a regressive mode these days. There is a trend towards using abbreviations of phrases to replace said phrases, such as "AFAIK" (As Far As I Know) "AFK" (Away From Keyboard), and "WTF" (What The Fuck?). This is a return to a symbol based language, rather than a language compiled from words spelled with the alphabet, similar to Chinese, where a single symbol can represent a whole sentence or idea.

Indeed, 'twas ever thus, as poets needed to use a single sillable so that their lines o'er came the limits of rhythm.

I think you should back up your post with some examples, otherwise it really will not happen as you suggest.

I read people have been writing like that for a long while. More than 50 years. The individual words just change.
