The Rise of Privacy
« on: April 13, 2009, 06:04:50 PM »

In today's official statement from Obama about the high seas piracy that was resolved via sniper fire, he said, "I want to be very clear that we are resolved to halt the rise of privacy in that region,"

Did he misspeak?  :?

They've been attempting to halt the rise of piracy there for 200 years. . .since Jefferson!

Privacy shouldn't be an issue in of itself - in a free society it'll be something you have to pay extra for.  And I'm sure there'll still be spammers looking for ways to send you more targeted spam, and so on.  The government violates every natural right you have, but there's no such thing as a "right to privacy".  (I know that's not what this thread is about exactly, but this was worth repeating nonetheless.)

And those weren't pirates, they were the Somalian IRS - identical to the US's version, only smaller.

The Marines did pretty well against the pirates off the shores of Tripoli.

The Jeffersonish Free State Militia, which you didn't start yet?

... but I'm sure the Libman Robot Ninja Squad, which I'm working on now, will totally beat you to it.

I think most people here recognize that it was unintentional, but it is nonetheless a relevant reminder of the fact that Obama is even worse on domestic spying than Bush...
