Dude. Don't put out no more flyers.
People will make assumtions simply because they see a man living in a house with his family and they hear some screaming..It is a highly unusual situation for this area which contains a high percentage of single mothers on welfare. The flyer was only a one sentence thing letting people know he screams and cries out regularly because of his disabilities.
Yeah, I know.
Don't advertise on the goddamn telephone poles.
--
How old is this kid, that you're advertising as fucked up on the telephone poles, friendo?
I hate it when I have to repeat brasky. One day your kid will be older and will meet people. Won't he be thrilled when those people already know him as the retard on the tel.... mailbox.
Better than the kid whose dad was killed because ignorant people called in the cops.
Have you begun behavior modification, or are any therapies in place?
You need to take part in that. Personally. You. So you learn how to achieve the necessary communication skills with an autistic. Learn what trips them out, all that. And feeding some of their stims is okay, as long as they're relatively socially acceptable.
I'm being purposely obtuse and general because I don't want to get into more specific conversation. Plus each kid is different, autism is a spectrum disorder, so theres a couple hundred quirks and particulars in play. We can't know the severity you're talking about. Only you can understand that, this is a message board. But I'm assuming he's a basically normal 6yo who acts similar to a drinker. Hard to handle, irrational, but the intelligence levels are up to par. Thats your garden variety autism, these days.
The bottom line is, you have to learn to communicate with him, and find some appropriate therapies. If you do that, you won't have to tell the neighbors a fuckin' thing. You'll eventually learn to handle it, and more importantly,
he will learn to handle it. Which is the real goal, mind you.
