John, you wouldn't have anywhere near the same success that Ron Paul has had.

You're right. I wouldn't run for office and I'm not a politician.

I hope you realize that he's the only politician that is actually saying things that freedom lovers agree with.

Harry Browne

Ron Paul (1988 version)

Ronald Reagan

Barry Goldwater

Skipping a few hundred -

Thomas Jefferson

Politicians have been talking the pro liberty rap for hundreds of years.

How can you belittle that contribution to modern day media?

I didn't. I'm not even telling anyone not to go vote for him. I'm just talking about what I would do, personally, and why.

If you wanna go show your support for a guy who joined the KKK to stop lynchings go for it.

Ron knocked it out of the park last night. Had to change my shorts three times.

Maybe you can take over the KKK to eliminate lynchings. I've taken over several organizations and businesses for the expressed purpose of changing the way they do things. Sometimes it works better than others. It is rare, however, for the effects to last long after the changer goes away. That's what worries me about the Ron Paul thing. I don't see anyone credible waiting to pick up the torch when he sets it down. Maybe Napolitano?

Very good performance, I agree. His best yet.

It was a little weird hearing both Romney and Perry giving the answer, basically, "Ron Paul stuff" to the question "tell us the one thing you've learned from one of the other candidates on the stage".

Highlights, if anyone cares to watch.

I was arguably hyper-critical of the Ron Paul campaign the last time he ran for office. Even I had to agree that he did some good. A lot of people got disillusioned by what happened, by the blackouts from the media and even outright distortions, all stuph that's happening again. Those people who got disillusioned, many became more consistently anti-statist.

I'm glad he's out there using the platform as a soapbox. He's reaching a lot of people. I couldn't do it. I sort of tried that actually and learned a lot from it. Made me feel really dirty. I'm glad it wasn't for me. I can't get excited enough to actually invest anything in it, even hope. But I'm watching a little from the sidelines and enjoying the show.

What worries me are the people who are getting heavily invested, not just financially or with their time and efforts, but particularly in hope. I worry there's going to be a painful awakening. Some will get more inspired for liberty activism, hopefully something more effective than politics, but I think a lot of people will just get discouraged.

My biggest worry would be if he actually DID win. Just about everyone here realizes things wouldn't be all puppy dogs and rainbows overnight, but the vast majority of americans would expect just that.

After his first term, people would say "SEE? THIS LIBERTARIAN BULLSHIT AINT NO BETTER THAN WITH THE REST!!! JERBS R STILL HARD TO GIT, AND I AINT NO BETTER OFF!!"

People want instant gratification that they will never get......... then for the next 40 years, all you'll hear is "Ehhhh, we tried that libertarian stuff and it didnt work."

If somehow Ron Paul got elected, liberty lovers would have to walk instead of talk. It is a little scary. Easiest to do nothing and bitch.
Ron Paul gets elected and does anything he says he will do, it is incumbent on us to make it work by, well...working.

I figure it's either start this whole slow incremental climb to freedom, and Ron Paul is getting the idea out there and if he becomes President it couldn't possibly be worse.
or start welding anything that floats together and try and build Rapture from Bioshock.
I would rather bet on this incremental thing at this time.
But I am a pretty decent welder. :?

Note: I fucked up and posted a answer in the wrong thread in something I shall coin as "Dalesque" I have decided to try and Fix it sorta kinda.

Yeah, but I think thats our job no matter who wins.

I pretty much agree with Shaw on this stuff. Ron Paul aint gonna save us, but I'd still like to see him win if for no other reason than to expose politics for what it really is. The GOP would be freaking the fuck out if RP won and would be fighting him all the way as far as military stuff goes, also on alot of other things as well.

That alone would be worth watching, just to let people see that the Republican party is no more for small government than the democrats are.

It might open a few eyes and thats all I care about.

You are right of course. I would just feel more motivated to be successful and try and create jobs if I knew the President didn't believe I should be punished for that.
Maybe a free society is better built up when everybody loses their government dole and we have a year of chaos where reality finally gets learned the hard way. (I've mentioned it before but remember the young Al was a Republican til some cops whipped his ass at 33, so I had to learn the hard way myself)
I am just more afraid of a Soviet style police state. That whole drone thing and the filtering out of the "thinkers" in the government enforcement arms have me a bit paranoid.
Want to help me with that welding?

I call my welders %&¤#" generally. Most of the at home welding I do is under my goddamn cars or fixing the kid's rusty toys. But I call the ones at work "welders". In Norwegian they are called "sviesapperat" or weld apparatus.
