The Western European countries are socialist, and those countries are among those with the highest standards of living in the world.

Therefore, it has worked for them.

But isn't NH the freest place in the US?  And doesn't it have about the highest standard of living in the US?  So didn't it work for us?

did you actually read the chart to find out why?

http://isteve.blogspot.com/2005/05/standard-of-living-by-state.html

Hahaha, look at that, NH is last on the list.

NH is #1, that blogger just couldn't find any "Cost of Living Index" data.  Slacker.

Yeah - unless you wear full-body bulletproof armor, in which case it's way too hot.  ;)

I don't buy either of those lists.  They both suck and are retarded.

Texas is 45 out of 50 in the list you posted.

It would be way higher if the per-capita rankings that go into that index were adjusted for fertility rates.  And, sure, there are a lot of poor people in Texas, but most of them work hard (ex. it has fewer welfare cases per capita than most southern states - and that's in spite of being more urban).  The border region is probably weighting it down quite a bit as well - Alex Jones makes it sound like a fucking war-zone!

Clearly, no.  NH isn't included because whoever created that list (btw, even the link is from 2005) wasn't able to get data on NH.

NH has the lowest poverty in the US.  The 2nd fewest amount of cops.  The lowest crime.  The 2nd lowest adjusted local tax burden.  The best place to have a family.  The most liveable state.  And so on.

There is an old outdated website with some additional info, http://whynewhampshire.org/

10 good things about Texas, off the top of my head:

1. Relatively low cost of living.  I used to have a 575 sq. ft. apartment in a nice area of Dallas (not a suburb, Dallas proper) paying $550 per month.

2. Guns, of course.  Easy to find, easy to purchase, easy to own and use without being assumed to be a violent thug.   There was no background check when I bought a Bersa .380 from a gun range/shop a few years ago, though that may have changed.

3.  Barbecue and steakhouses.  Everywhere.

4.  Weather.  Yes, it's sweltering in the summer.  But I'll gladly take that in exchange for spring-like weather for pretty much the entire rest of the year.

5.  There's something really nice about going down the highway and seeing a bunch of longhorn cattle grazing.  Or in my case, just slightly outside my neighborhood.

6.  Fiscal conservatism, at least, is not a dirty word.  People pretend to be fiscally conservative when they're not, they try to earn favor from the Tea Partiers in order to win elections, etc.  Yes, it's all a load of bullshit.  But the rhetoric at least gives lip service to the notion of small government.  (Faint praise, I know)

7.  Liberal as it is, I love Austin.  Full of quirky restaurants and shops, tattoo parlors, roller derby...it's almost too cool for its own good.  The Center for Inquiry holds regular meetings and events there.  My brother and sister-in-law recently moved there, giving me a great reason to visit.  I'd live there in a heartbeat.

8.  The beach at Galveston, Corpus Christi, Padre Island, etc. may not be the most exotic or gorgeous in the world, but it is pretty.   It's a good cheap vacation to go down there with some friends and rent a beach house for a few days.

9.  The biggest renaissance fair in the country: Texas Renaissance Festival just north of Houston.  If you're into that sort of thing.

10.  If you don't have kids and want to be left alone, it's a pretty good place to do it if you're also allergic to lots of snow.

I liked that it was pretty easy to drink underage at the River Walk in San Antonio when I lived there.  Not that I did, but my military friends did right in the center of the tourist area of the city on several occasions without the slightest problem.  I also liked San Antonio because there was a classic country station on the radio.

I used to be a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.  Texas is also cool because of all of the great country music that has come out of it.  Additionally, I'm a fan of some of the rock acts, like Bowling For Soup.

I lived in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area from 1998-2003, visited intermittently between then and 2009, and now live just north of Dallas.

The list seemed to have to do with a family of four trying to get by in New Hampshire. Just because not everyone wants to live in your winter wasteland . . .

Being as I live in Calgary, Canada and worked in the oil industry before I did the university thing here is my list.

1. ) Houstan - fucking hot and muggy in the summer - walk outside an air conditioned building and its like you've been doused with a bucket of sweat. Houstan is an oil town, Calgary is an oil town lots of movement back and forth - loved the no nonsense pro business attitude of people from Houstan, shit got done and it got done fast, fucking lovely. Of course that all changed after 911, why? Da fuck if I know.

2.) The people - I still have very good friends down there, open hearted and very friendly - so long as your not a socialist cunt.

3.) Innovation - people have a can do attitude and if there is a problem they find a solution with as little fuss and muss as possible.

4.) Mexicans - have brought great food to Texas which Texans greatly appreciate, generally found Texans to be the most acceptable/tolerant towards Mexicans, unlike the paranoid asshats who live in New Mexico and Arizona, they are all socialists - either from California or Canadian snowbirds.

5.) The women - wow! I almost married a Texan. Outspoken and party hard ladies made Texas a lot of fun, totally opposite of the head case nitwit women of California. Despite what people generally think of blondes the ones in Texas had lots of brains and were very smart, ruthless in business.

6.) The bars - I have never been in so many druken bar brawls in my life, you know the place rocks when the furniture is made out of cement, rock on.

Things I hate - the beer. Why the fuck can't you Yankee twats make a decent fucking lager beer, jesus fucking h christ? Shiner Bock is shit, sorry. Not that Molson Canadian is any better, it ain't its shit to.
