This thread was prompted, appropriately enough, by the "
The Definitive 'Things We Like About Israel' Thread" thread.
They were talking about Kosher soda-pop being imported from Texas and that's when the following fighting words were dropped:
This insult cannot be allowed to stand! It's no New Hampshire, of course, but Texas is definitely up there on the list of the greatest places in the world to live!
Let us list some reasons why:
- It has an active secession movement! Current polls indicate 18% support, but when shit hits the fan Texas might be the most able state to do it.
- Texas is the biggest conservative economy in the world - if it were a country, it would be the 13th largest!
- Texas has the second highest birth rate in the nation after Utah - which is awesome, and which also goes a long way to legitimize its otherwise-mediocre per-capita rankings.
- It has some of the freest Global Cities in the world -- Houston and Dallas -- which is particularly remarkable because cities always tend to be more socialist. When free market economists produce case studies debunking urban central planning, zoning, government-subsidized public transportation, rent control, etc they usually site either Houston or Dallas as examples of how to do things right. Dallas ranks 6th in the world by number of billionaires.
- Texas has the highest number of Fortune 500 company headquarters in the United States (58), including: AT&T, Dell Computer, American Airlines, Electronic Data Systems, J.C. Penney, Texas Instruments, Affiliated Computer Services, Blockbuster, RadioShack, Perot Systems, and of course a ton of huge energy, agribusiness, aerospace, and "military-industrial complex" companies too. (NH's sole entry on the Fortune 1000 list ranks #945.)
- Gov: "Last year, more than half of all new jobs created in the United States were created in Texas".
- Don't let "perfect" be the enemy of "good" - Ron Paul, Alex Jones, Debra Medina, etc are all good people who do good things for liberty.

Just as with
the Israel thread, this is a place for focusing on the positive. Please post your own points about what you like about Texas.
