Troll ethic forbids trolling on the Trolly Awards thread.  This is a place to discuss your trollcomplishments for the past year and select your favorites.  Many great trolls will enter.  One will win.

Now you'd of course expect me to nominate myself, but, c'mon, I've been winning troll awards since the days of dial-up BBS'es and Usenet.  I've done some good work in 2010 in places as diverse as programming forums, Muslim forums, conspiracy forums, vegan forums, Russian-language political forums, etc, but I think it's time to give someone else a chance...

I nominate...  El Neil (http://forum.freekeene.com/index.php?topic=3502) !!!  (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-violent045.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Originally the term "troll" was just a mindless derogatory cliche for someone you don't like, like the term "witch" in the middle ages.  Then I started to use the word in a humorous self-deprecating manner, because I spend a lot of time arguing on socialist forums, where they obviously call all libertarians "trolls", and because I look like a mythological troll-like creature in real life.  (Really, I do.  Most pictures of trolls you see are drawn from my likeness.)  The concept then evolved further and melded with my concept of a heroic "Truther" who seeks to fill all gaps of knowledge, particularly the ones that are the most politically inconvenient.  Also similar is the concept of a social "gadfly" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_gadfly) exemplified by Socrates - another derogatory term turned on its head.

And for the purposes of this thread, it's whoever is nominated and then gets the most votes.

To troll in a trollmination, you should provide a link to the trollastric troll-event, and perhaps some top trolly quotes.

It would be nice if the real identity of the nominee was known, because I'd just love to spend a few hundred dollars on a gag custom "award" statuette to ship to the winner, but there's a fine line between humor and harassment, so I probably shouldn't.  Maybe next year we'll do this proper, with a real awards ceremony on YouTube.
Title: Re: The 2010 Trolly Awards - Nomination Thread
Post by: Alex Libman on February 20, 2011, 08:30:13 PM
Someone was confused, so let me clarify...

It's like the Tony Awards, Emmy Awards, Academy Awards, Slammy Awards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slammy_Award), etc - but for "trolls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29)".  First people nominate their favorite online "troll" performances of 2010, and then I'll make a poll from those nominations and people can vote for the winner.  You don't have to be a "troll" to nominate someone or to vote.  What constitutes a "trolling performance" is entirely subjective and is up to the nominators and voters.

C'mon, people...  The Internet neeeds a venue to recognize all the hardworking men and women in the "trolling" industry.  All award ceremonies start small the first year, and who knows, maybe a few years from now it'll be a red carpet event watched by quazillions of people all over the world...  And what better authority to present this award than this forum!

My Nomination for the 2010 Trolly Awards is Julian Assange,
for the trolling of multiple governments around the world.

Governments successfully trolled through Assanges' organization, Wikileaks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WikiLeaks#Governments
Germany, China, Australia, Thailand, U.S., Iceland, etc.

Julians actions even managed to spur large groups of trolls into action:
http://www.boingboing.net/2010/12/08/in-pro-wikileaks-act.html

Of course, those who were most successfully trolled were the random butt-heart politicians:

Awesomeness!   :D

Assange is de man!  His whole site (http://wikileaks.ch/) qualifies, not counting the thousands of little leakkiddies like me who've been retrolling (http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=22169.0) his (http://concen.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=37584) archives (http://forum.freestateproject.org/index.php?topic=22207) all over the Interwebz...

Yeah, I invited a couple of choice individuals to participate via PM.  That's not spam - that's not even spam lite!

Regarding Robin and Princess Pu noms...  That's too general.  Can you pick out specific nomination-worthy thread(s)?

And...  I might have to un-nominate John Shaw...  moderator immunity...  Plus maybe he'll hook me up with Sheldon Goldfarb to host the award ceremony.

Is he supposed to be Shaw?

Alls I know is if Time Lady doesn't get in this competition....she will get MAJORLY pissed off ....and prolly do some crazy lesbian-type shit against you....like she once did to me. It took me a while to clean up the mess that Time Lady left behind. Regardless....just because Time Lady gets more fluttered when I do MY thing....doesn't mean that she won't allow you to seduce her......I'm just sayin'.

But...lets be clear ....there is a very good possibility that Assange is connected to Mossad.....there's evidence...trust me.

Do you really want to vote for an albino with connections to Israel?????

I am not an albino...nor do I work for Mossad. Just remember that.

The Simpsons rip me off (again) with an episode that makes fun on the Award Show circus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angry_Dad:_The_Movie) [BT] (http://eztv.it/ep/25954/the-simpsons-s22e14-hdtv-xvid-lol/).  I'm going to get L. Neil's lawyers and sue!

Who is the guy in the top left...wearing the red Hawaiian shirt????
I (http://www.oocities.com.nyud.net/~freewillie/LNeilSmith.gif)t (http://alexlibman.com/img/bak/LNeilSmith.gif)'s an ancient image of L. Neil from an ancient Geocities site (http://www.oocities.com/~freewillie/FAMOUS-LIBERTARIANS.html).  I thought the Richard III image (http://alexlibman.com/img/bak/McKellen.jpg) would be more controversial.  Please feel free to PhotoShop up some better nominee images if you like.

it looks like Alex is going to try to humiliate me by putting me in a competition with Assange.

I'm just your neutral nerdy host...  Think of me as an Alex Trebek (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Trebek) (but without the sponsored wardrobe).  Neither of the two nominations came from me.

I'd like to nominate a thread.

http://bbs.freetalklive.com/general/drama-in-the-free-state/

Interesting, but this is an individualist award.  There's no such thing as a "collective mind", "collective will", or "collective trolling"!  Everyone trolls for him or her or itself!

Is this a legal entry?

http://bbs.freetalklive.com/general/the-2010-trolly-awards-nomination-thread/ (http://bbs.freetalklive.com/general/the-2010-trolly-awards-nomination-thread/)

I think so.

The 2010 Trolly Awards honor the trollastic achievements of the year 2010 (except there'll also be a Posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award presented by your humble trollator (I'm all secretive about that (unless you've seen my avatar on another forum)) (and maybe a YouTube dance number)).  The awards take place in the beginning of the subsequent year, around the same time as Tony Awards, Academy Awards, etc.  Even in theory this could only get nominated next year, so the 2010 Trolly Awards could theoretically win at the 2011 Trolly Awards, but people generally don't like it when award shows win awards, especially when it's just presenting awards to themselves...  You know how them North Korean newspapers would spin this!  So we must retain total impartiality - but that's a discussion for next year.

Plus I've personally already done some 2011 Award-worthy trolling that's really lightyears and lightyears ahead of this thread!  (One example (http://marc.info/?t=129750909300001&r=1) - click "last" to start reading from the bottom.)

Here are some choice El Neil trollpressions to go with the nomination.

It started with: (http://forum.freekeene.com/index.php?topic=3502)

Quote
Shire Society Founders:

please contact me immediately by e-mail, as we have important
business I’m sure you’d rather discuss privately than in public.

L. Neil Smith
lneil@netzero.com

When Lance (the nicest person I know in the FSP, BTW) tried to reason with him, LNS replied:

Quote
Mr. Weber, et al.,

I don't know what writing you think you did. This document of yours
is plagiarized directly from my "Covenant of Unanimous Consent",
absolutely without my knowledge or permission,  and without even
giving me proper credit as the author.

What's worse, you have altered and damaged my property, again
without my knowledge or permission. Here's the URL for the Covenant
of Unanimous Consent.

                http://www.lneilsmith.org/new-cov.html (http://www.lneilsmith.org/new-cov.html)

Adding insult to injury, you have deprived me of income I derived
from accepting and archiving the document.

Theft and vandalism are not the bases on which a free society can
be established. I suggest that you get together with your friends and
try to figure out how you're going to make restitution to me. Otherwise,
my next communications about this situation will be as public as I can
make them.

I am blind-copying this message to my attorney.

L. Neil Smith

When Ian pointed out that credit was given, etc (http://forum.freekeene.com/index.php?topic=3502.msg38349#msg38349), LNS fired back:

Quote
Okay, now you've done it.

You are a liar and a thief. I will now take this matter public and let other
people decide whether you have stolen from me or not. Your line about
crediting me in some obscure location and being "inspired" by my work,
rather than what you have really done is a transparent falsehood. If you
were telling the truth now, you would have notified me at some point
before making your pilfered document public.

If you accuse me of statism of any kind, you'll have to make restitution
for that, as well.

As a kindness, before you engage me in this matter, I suggest that you
check into what I wrote when Aaron Zelman was attacked by two disgruntled
former members of JPFO, and what I did when a Canadian magazine accused
me of racism. It'll take  little research on your part, but I guarantee you'll be
happy and relieved that you did.

My demeanor is far from threatening; it is the natural reaction of a
professional writer to plagiarism. I will not be stolen from, and I will not be
edited without my consent. Forget the bluster and forget the handjob. You
are morally in debt to me and the sooner you freely  acknowledge that, the
happier everybody will be.

N.

Julian Assange:

Quote
“Which country is suffering from too much freedom of speech? Name it, is there one?”

Quote
“We know for sure that one big media company in the US had the ‘Collateral Murder’ video for years and did not release it.”

Quote
“(one way Wikileaks successfully defends against litigation) …by using every trick in the book that multinational companies use to route money through tax havens -instead we route information.”

Haha, using their own tricks against them.

And a more sad quote:

Quote
“(Undoing Deception)

…the main manual for Guantanamo Bay, in fact two editions, which reveal that black and white as a matter of policy that the guards there were to hide people and everyone who came in for the first month, from the Red Cross.

And they were to forge the paperwork, allow the Red Cross through, that they had certain sections that were ‘show prisons’.

And when this came out the spokesperson for Guantanamo Bay denied the whole thing and said ‘That was then, it’s all changed.’ And as a result of that another source came forward and gave us the next year’s manual and showed no actually it had gotten worse.

So with primary sources there is so much you can do to undo that kind of deception, when it’s black and white and in policy.”

Assange's nomination is definitely secure.  I'd just like to remind everyone that the "troll" label as it is used here is completely judgment-neutral - I am a big supporter of what WikiLeaks doing, for the most part.  Maybe Assange is a bit too left-libertarian for my taste, but nonetheless libertarian enough.  I would release information a bit faster though.  And try harder to prioritize leaks against less free regimes than the US.  And I'd maintain that big business is not the enemy - they do many awesome things to counterbalance government force and advance technology and other things that make hope of greater liberty possible.  I had his site mirrored (http://forum.freestateproject.org/index.php?topic=22207) on 6-7 big hosting companies (including Microsoft and Amazon) at one point just to see if any of them would cancel my account as the result - none did, because no one pressured them to.   :)

Would anyone like to pick out some of R3's and/or Robin.m's trolliest trollquotes to complete their nominations?  :P

(EDIT:  OMFG!!! (http://www.tmz.com/2011/02/24/charlie-sheen-two-and-a-half-men-chuck-lorre-argument-radio-talk-show-tirade-turd-thomas-jefferson/) :shock::shock:  Guess who just broke every record for radio trolling in one interview!  I think I already know who I'll nominate next year...)

I don't know what you mean by "complete", but it sounds like I'm in, regardless of such "completion".

As for Robin, I don't remember if she executed her sexy picture trolling in the Lord's Year Of 2010...but she prolly did.... and that's good enough for me. Put her on the list, Alex....so as to prove to the internets that yer asexual days are over...and you are able to recognize these sexy trolls when you see them.

When I was 13....I fell in love with a classmate. He had big feet, a high pitched voice, and lots of freckles. He was always a bit of a troublemaker, and I would encourage him to steal things for me. He would tell me some stories about fucking a girl that lived around the corner.

This one time, after gym class, the boys were changing clothes, and I noticed my best friend's testicle hanging out of his white underpants. I looked...but I never developed a thing for him.

A year after that, I came across the freckled big foot boy, in the mall. He grabbed my coat collars and shook me around for a bit. I don't know what he was trying to do. I'm guessing I was just a joke to him.

A couple of years ago, I attended a funeral party, and met this wonderful girl. For whatever reason, she attended the event....wearing her high school catholic uniform. I've never seen this girl before....she was my cousin, but yet ....she was my lover. She had these big pimples on her face, but she was still so beautiful! She talked in such an amazing way.

I felt such a connection with her, and I think she had a thing for me....but this is the kind of stuff that has to rot away.

When I hit 16, I fell in love with another boy. He had the most amazing hair...I so wanted that hairstyle! He would laugh at all my jokes.

At the same time this girl was trying to get with me....but I reckoned she had "big legs". She seemed cool, but then I found out that she was dealing with some other guy that apparently ejaculated into a bowl of potato chips, and they ate from it.

It gets worse...... Then I found out that this dude trained his dog to lick his dick, and I'm pretty sure that the girl I liked was a witness to this....and who knows what else!

And then he killed himself. He was 16!

I liked his sister...she had a "goth" look going on....but I never ended up talking with her. I would just see her walking down the hall....at school....and that tragedy would come into my mind.

I don't know, R3 / Princess Pu's trolling is a bit amateurish compared to the likes of El Neil, Assange, or even your humble trollator here...

We have until April 1st to narrow down the nominations, then the 15 days of voting begins.

Don't be hating Libman, that shit is deeply disturbed.

Not deeply enough.  As you know, I've set the bar very high in that category.  I'd still like to see some mind-blowing R3 quotes to justify the nomination.

It's like the 67th Academy Awards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/67th_Academy_Awards) out here - ShawShank (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiv_%28weapon%29) Redemption, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Lying King, Ed Wood, Bullets Over Boardway, Nell, Heavenly Creatures, Burnt by the Fun...  The Madness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Madness_of_King_George) of Queen Richard simply gets lost in the shuffle...

Submission Eve the Banana caller:

Too unoriginal.

Still could use some more R3 and Robin quotes to complete their nominations.

Amazingly, no politicians have been nominated yet.  Or lobbyists.  Or commiementary film-makers (I guess Michael Moore was taking a year off)...  Or incredibly lucky dorks who start a silly little socialization Web-site like I almost did circa 1997 and make billions of dollars and have a movie made about them...  That could have been me! :cry::cry:  Wait, what was I talking about?  Oh, right - the nominations remain wide-open with no specific limit to the number of nominees.

Less than one month left before the voting begins.

Three weeks to finalize nominations...

Then, two more weeks till the red carpet!

Except the Internets can't support a carpet...

Hmmm, what does this forum have that's red?

Red...  DelPaPa?  He was one good conspiracy troll, but now he's gone...

Is there any reason why it is taking you so long to do this crappy Trolly Awards thing? Just get it over with. You are already past the point where people showed an interest.

Give the award to yer jewish kin, Assange....and let's move on.

(1)  Don't over-quote. (http://bbs.freetalklive.com/the-polling-pit/do-you-find-over-quoting-annoying/)

(2)  I announced the dates from the start.  It'll give people time to think about it.  Some people round here are not very fast thinkers...

(3)  This opera house will get built, and this talentless whore will sing, whether the public wants it or not!

(4)  If Assange (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Julian_Assange) is a Jew, then so is Shaka Zulu and the Emperor of Japan!

(5)  Oh, I've got a new Assange quote for his nomination.  It pertains, of all things, to my obsession with Copyfree software licensing (http://bbs.freetalklive.com/general/copyfree-software/).  Believe it or not, Assange used to be associated (http://www.google.com/search?q=assange+netbsd) with the NetBSD (http://netbsd.org/) project!  The quote: (http://mail-index.netbsd.org/netbsd-advocacy/1999/12/08/0006.html)

Tell us again, Alex....when is the Trolly Award going to be announced? Is it May? That's too long.

I also would like to know what kind of marketing ....and PR stuff...you have been doing with the Trolly Awards. For example....Is TMZ gonna cover this?

Do you even have a website for the Trolly Awards? If you give me some money, I will make you a website.

From the first post:

Voting poll to be added April 1st.

Voting closes tax day, Apr 15th.

Winner will get +99 egoboo.

Egoboo not redeemable for cash.  All award ceremonies start small and grow every year.  In 20 or so years, we could be bigger than the Oscars!   8)

Bj. He used his mod powers to permanently erase active threads, without any explanation or saying who did what, then he erased a thread that someone had nurtured for years. All quietly and irreversibly. Then he openly confessed to the whole thing and gets demoted. The shear awesomeness of it was mind blowing. I wonder if there is even more to the story. The stuff I mention is just the stuff I figured out. I have no idea how he buried things so deeply that not even Drifter or Shaw could get them back. At the very least he is in the running.

Alrighty then - no longer protected by Moderator Immunity, BonerJoe is now a contender!  We're going to need some choice BJ troll-quotes to go with the nom.

The awards are going to get better next year.  First of all, we'll have a running thread to accumulate trollquotes and trollminations.  Maybe we should move the ceremony closer to New Years - gonna think about that.  And, since we'll have more nominations, next time we'll break things out into multiple categories - Best Supporting Troll, Best Foreign Language Troll, Best Troll Sound Editing, etc...

So, he should get the attention he was looking for?

That's kinda what this award is all about.    :P

Just as a reminder... there is missing info in the pedo thread I made about wanting a 14 year old girlfriend. It was fantastic trolling, to the point where Alaric reported that I had posted "child porn", and all the mods and members got nervous and paranoid that the FBI was gonna shut down the BBS.

The pic was deleted by the mods or admins, even though the pic was not really "child porn", and so as a result, my greatest troll of 2010 cannot even be recognized properly, due to the censorship that took place amongst the mods. But, if you go through that thread again, you will find bits of info that alludes to the incident. But like I said, the troll was of such high quality, that the mods had to mess with the thread, cuz they were scared that the FBI would break down their doors.

That was my greatest troll of 2010, and I believe that the tampering of the evidence in that thread is even more powerful of an indicator of my trolltastic abilities.

We can't have a winner without a poll.

And we can't have a poll without people taking the nomination process seriously.

I could have scraped it out and filled in the gaps myself, but wasn't in the mood.

Of course the time limits aren't written in stone.

We can run the poll 1-2 weeks and end on 4/20.

I was thinking like a libertarian when I picked April 15th.

Most trolls are unemployed pot-heads, so the 20th is better.

You abandoned the contest, I declared a winner that I may or may not have been originally submitted by myself as well. There was a second for the winner immediately following. I think we can all agree the contest was concluded successfully.
