BTW it was not the entire religion which targeted any cartoonist for assassination. It was some people within that religion who used their religion as an excuse. Is that right? No, but it doesn't prove an entire religion is bad for what some people do claiming it is in the name of that religion.

You do not have accurate numbers of people who protested or even made threats. There is no proof of your over exaggerated guess as to the number of protesters. Also, you have no proof that they were specifically protesting that the image of the Prophet as the whole reason for their protest. Some said that they were protesting the negative racial depiction of Arabs in the cartoon as much as the religious aspect and even others in the protest were protesting in general due to unemployment and other anti-immigrant laws in Europe. Again there are 1.57 billion Muslims around the world even if your wild exaggerations were correct that is still a very small percentage of the religion as a whole. And why are they not allowed to protest? Is freedom of speech only allowed for the cartoonist?
There were a few who did go over the line and made death threats but many more were simple exercising their freedom of speech or their right to be offended. As I acknowledged due to economic disparity among the majority of Islamic people. It does have a greater number of unsophisticated individuals who are given to irrational reactions such as death threats. I would hazard a guess that the Christians who threatened to kill the artist Andres Serrano's in 1987 were poor Christians and therefore less sophisticated.
Nazi Germany in their anti-Jewish propaganda constantly depicted Jews in a negative way in cartoons to generate hatred of that group of people. The Jewish community did not protest or fight back against those depictions. It did not end up well for them as a result. So what are the ethnic Arabs suppose to do as they are falsely depicted in negative ways by cartoonist as part of a propaganda campaign. Are they suppose to sit back appear to be okay with the racist depictions as they wait to be herded off to death camps?
Burning the American flag is highly offensive to many Americans. Some are so irrational about the desecration of the flag they want people who burn it to be imprisoned. And there have been death threats over the American flag desecration. Personally if you want to draw a cartoon of Mohamed or burn a flag go have at it. But people who don't like it have every right to call you a shithead for doing so and only cross the line if they threaten to harm you. The majority of Muslims simply expressed that the dutch cartoonist was a racist shithead. Only a few became irrationally incensed and sought to harm the cartoonist.
