wild bills beef jerky

vacuum sealed packages last forever

downside......it works out to @ 27.50/lb

get a dehydrator and make your own jerky and get a vacuum sealer

You guys ever have deer-jerky before? Its pretty good. A friend of mine, a few years back made some, really spicy stuff, but it was tasty and I dont even like venison that much.

The story of how he got it was even tastier, albeit pretty fucked up.

Dude is a hunter, but only small game. Rabbits, quail, dove, and stuff like that. Never shot a deer in his life and probably never will due to the Bambi effect that he cant seem to get over. Anyway, he calls me around 7am one day on his way to work.  Drives 45 miles every day from Decatur to Champaign on I-72.

"Hey Mike."

Whats up dude?

"Nothin' just driving to work. Hey, would you eat a dead deer lying on the side of the road?"

Uh, I dont know man, maybe if I was really fuckin' dirt poor and starving. Depends how long its been there I guess. Why? (keep in mind its the middle of January.)

"Well, theres one lying all fucked up in the median of 72 just past Monticello..... a big one. Wasn't there yesterday. If its still there on my way back home im thinkin about stopping  and throwing it in the back of  the Blazer."

You sure it wasn't there? Maybe it was and you just didn't see it.

"Naw man, if it was there I would have noticed it? Besides, everythings frozen, what diff does it make? It aint like its gonna rot."

---------------------------------------

So yeah, its still there and he makes jerky out of the whole damn thing. Still has some in his freezer from 2 yrs back and brings some out every now and then.  Still tasty.

The problem with roadkill is, you never know if the thing was foaming at the mouth and wobbling all over the road in a mental fog, completely delirious.

Through a scope, you can get a good idea if it's relatively healthy.  Alert, at least.  And not dribbling liquid shit.  Its not a perfect system, but its better than nuthin'.

Yeah thats very true. Which is one of the reasons I didn't eat any till he did first. Told him to call me in a couple of weeks if he was still alive after he and his broad munched on the stuff.
