Spokesmen for the so-called “Somali pirates” have expressed
willingness to transfer part of their loot captured from transnational boats
and send it to Haiti.

Leaders of these groups have declared they have links in various places around
the world to help them ensure the delivery of aid without being detected by
the armed forces of enemy governments.

The “pirates” typically redistribute a significant portion of their profits
among relatives and the local population.

The fishermen of Kenya and Somalia are enjoying their best catches in many years thanks to Somali pirates scaring away illegal trawlers. Before piracy became a problem, commercial fishing vessels from around the world took advantage of Somalia's lack of an effective government to raid its waters, reaping vast numbers of fish. Fishermen say stocks of fish have soared, and many rarely seen species have returned.

The better catches have helped many fishing communities raise their income and their quality of life. The Somali pirates—who sometimes use illegal fishing activities to justify their actions—are nothing more than terrorists, the head of a sports fishing company tells AP. "But as long as they can keep the big commercial boats out, not fishing the waters, then it benefits a lot of other smaller people," he said.



HISTORY OF SOMALI PIRATES:
In 1991, the government of Somalia - in the Horn of Africa - collapsed. Its nine million people have been teetering on starvation ever since - and many of the ugliest forces in the Western world have seen this as a great opportunity to steal the country's food supply and dump our nuclear waste in their seas.

The coastal population began to sicken. At first they suffered strange rashes, nausea and malformed babies. During the revolutionary war in America, George Washington and America's founding fathers paid pirates to protect America's territorial waters, because they had no navy or coastguard of their own. From the Cracked article I posted, it seems the only difference between said gangs and governments is that gangs have a faster response time. Usually.

I'm not saying that what they are doing is correct. I'm just thinking about the things to do different if you were in their shoes. Also, it shows that even poor and impoverished people give to charities voluntarily.

Apparently what makes governments "better" is the notion they (occasionally) give you some kind of warning (see: threat) before they kill you.

Except that actually doesn't happen to the vast majority of people. Even the vast majority of people who don't, or simply can't, pay their taxes. And as for roads, well, you're using government roads already.

Again, if you think Somalia's so good a place there shouldn't be anything stopping you from moving there.
