SolidCoin - a new bitcoin fork.
« on: August 24, 2011, 09:00:41 AM »

Those who know my prognostications on bitcoin before anyone had heard of it should take notice of this thread and look into solidcoin.info which is a project that forks the bitcoin code and provides several improvements.

It has faster block generation at 3 minutes instead of 10 and only 32 coins per block instead of 50. This means transactions are faster because blocks should be smaller. There is also an improved api and fee handling is more transparent.

While the gov is focusing on bitcoin and silk road, solidcoin is under the radar so by the time they react it will be too late and we will be 100 forks away from bitcoin  :)

The reason is that to move away from fiat we need a couple of competing currencies which do a few things to place pressure on the existing bitcoin system. One of those is ensuring miners are kept honest and cant gouge the users , who will simply move to another currency if they need too.

Being able to experiment freely on cryptocurrencies is a wonderful thing. I think its what the US founders tried to do when they setup all the different states but as we can see that didnt work. Humans got in the way :)

The other benefit is swapping bitcoins for solidcoins is protecting your monetary privacy. Its hard enough to track bitcoin let alone when you move to a whole separate blockchain any number of times.

Its an interesting development in the bitcoin world.

That would be a clever way of propagating a trojan horse...and discrediting such well-intended stuff at the same time....

false positive.

Its p2p and uses irc to bootstrap finding peers. Naturally Eset thinks thats virusworthy.
