If want to make sure certain pictures are not fake, just run a analysis on the rbg, and other color pallettes[sp?] of the images. Natural pictures with even printed fonts[as in the person printed a sign before hand] will still not looking exactly like a font added via a floating selection or layer as like Paintshop Pro, Photograph, and etc. They'll have rasterization and so forth. Just look at the graph of the analysis, look for any colour skews beyond ccd camera norms.

An interesting techique for making things look like they are written on skin to actually write on skin of a similar tone and fade that onto an image.
