It's a cost thing, not a regulation thing.  I haven't found a reasonable way to get baklava there within 2-3 business days, and I don't want it taking 7-10 days for $25+ in shipping charges.  :(

Perhaps you need a distributer willing to buy it in bulk (at bulk prices) for resale?

That would be fantastic if I could find someone like that.  It certainly would cut down on shipping costs.

Its not like its easy to smuggle some across the border either, you need a passport just to get across. I live 2 hours from Canada and yet I cant go there unless I'm camping and canoe across.

It's a pretty easy crossing on the eastern edge of the thumb from Port Huron south, across the St. Clair River or the narrow portion of Lake Huron just north of it.  Of course, that's really much more trouble than it's worth.

i love how this turned into a baklava smuggling thread. would replacing the stuffing inside teddy bears with baklava be cost effective?

Damnit!  :x Forgot to order last week, so I have no post-marathon baklava today.
Will be correcting this before my next long run.

Baklava runners doesn't roll off the tongue like rum runners, but I love the mental image of a canoe stocked up with baklava, heading into Canada.

Osborne, did you grab a piece or twelve?  I'm hoping Tarrin's mouth wasn't the only one to receive the Honey God's splooge this weekend.

Mandrik, both BJ and I had a piece. I also heard from my friend James Freelander that there was more in the AltExpo up on the second floor.

oh man Mandrik, i would be willing to be a baklava runner. but i would need a steam boat, a 19th century captain's outfit and an all black chorus to sing old man river.
