Wish I had money  :(

Get a job.  Or have sex with nasty old men - problem solved.

Not many places are hiring, and I don't like sex as it is, let alone sex with nasty old men.

This.

Also, Mandrik - pretty cool.  I've never had baklava, and I think my Greek co-workers would skewer me if they knew.  I don't like nuts in my food, but the idea of finely ground nuts kind of appeals to me.  Looks delicious.

Maybe we should order some for Ian - he needs to put some meat on them bones.

My wife learned to make baklava years ago from a Jordanian friend. My wife now makes many pans of the stuff every holiday season, and it is in great demand. It's far superior to anything from the local Greek restaurants. But, she's tried shipping it to our daughter on the other side of the country, and it just does not travel well.

It actually does travel well, but it's all in how you package it. I've had zero complaints about the packaging since I started. I seal the baklava in wax paper (basically by melting the sheets together), wrap that up in a plastic container, bubble wrap that, and then put it in a box. From there I make sure the box has enough packaging inside so there is very little movement during shipping. I've had friends take picture of what the baklava looks like once they received it and it looks identical and tastes great.

As for taste, baklava can be made a million different ways. Everyone likes to think their recipe is the best. I love my recipe, but that doesn't mean everyone will agree. You can't make everyone happy, although I haven't had any complaints yet. I'll just keep doing my thing.

Do you use a kitchen torch to melt the paper together?  Or something else?

I tried a couple methods. Surprisingly, the cheapest one worked--a clothing iron. I just clean any excess wax off the iron while it's still hot. I know it sounds primitive, but it works great and takes a lot less time than other ways.

Actually that sounds about the easiest way you could do it.  :)

Came today. It held up well during shipping. I ate a piece and put the rest in the fridge, but even warm it was the best I ever had. It's so tender, and the honey flavor isn't overpowering.

That's what I like to hear.  :)  I strive for balance!  Glad you enjoyed it, and you will likely enjoy it more when it's chilled.

I don't eat anything sweet, sorry.

Dude. Do you just seriously hate your own life so much that you will not let yourself enjoy anything associated with humanity or life? If there were past lives you must have been the monk locked in a cell wearing a hairshirt and not speaking for 30 years.

Let go of the self-loathing and embrace life. Of course, for you, that would probably be the ultimate torture.   :P

Your life is finite. Drink some sugary drinks, eat a meatball sub, watch a stupid movie, laugh, cry, live. The only consistent principle I can divine from your behavior on this message board is hatred of human happiness.
